Dude you haven’t called out anybody except your agenda...I provided all the proof I needed for bs FID ...I owned one...piss off

What about the link to the BS article with the incorrect benchmarks? You started this thread with the Air 4 being the better buy claiming the air 4 benchmarked faster than the M1 pro. SMH about your "piss off" comment and for your spreading false information. You author that article or something? The article is clearly wrong on both single core and multi core scores for the M1 ipad pro

Yes the single core scores of the air 4 and the m1 ipad pros are about the same, so they will have the same snappiness when opening apps, safari pages etc. Obviously the M1 is more powerful in the terms of gpu and multicore scores though and has base 8gb RAM , and Pro models have other more luxurious features like Pro motion and 4 speakers. But in terms of value proposition, the 64 gb Air 4 is the best bang for buck like you said and will satisfy the vast majority of people. The Pro models are more niche ipads for those that need the extra processing power.

it is ok to admit the article you shared is incorrect

don’t be mad the Air is as fast in some things for less.

lol, I'm not the one getting mad and telling a stranger to "piss off" on a forum.

The title of this thread, the one you created, is "2021 iPad Pro vs Air 4"

at least get the facts straight on a "vs" thread

it seems like you had your mine set on getting the Air 4 before starting the thread, so not sure the purpose of the thread if you don't want different opinions on "best bang for the buck"

The PhoneArena 2021 iPad Pro 11" results are lower than typical, though.

Here is a search for uploaded results for iPad13,4 (2021 iPad Pro 11" Wi-Fi). Seems to be averaging 1700 single-core and 7000 multi-core and there are thousands of samples.

https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/search?page=2&q=ipad13,4&utf8=✓

Practically speaking though, for tasks that are limited by single-thread performance the M1 Pro and Air 4 will likely feel around the same.

Some tasks (e.g. gaming) will be much better on the M1, though.

I totally get it, but won’t you be tempted to upgrade 2-3 years down the line as the tech matures anyway? Next year Pro 11” might well get a mini-LED screen, and Air - an OLED, both getting even better in 2023. It is just evolving so fast nowadays.

If those are things important to someone, then one would already know to just skip upgrading now.

Mini-LED's nice but personally not a dealbreaker for me (and I'm comparing a 2021 and 2020 Pro 12.9 side by side right now).

If Apple releases a Mini-LED Pro 11" next generation, I may consider getting 2021 Pro 11" instead of next gen depending on what else is on the new model and how much the the 2021 Pros get discounted.

Yeah I would think if someone’s perogative is having the latest and greatest then they would just go for the Pro every time regardless.

yea it kills it for graphics , metal score is nearly 9K points higher than the next iPad device which happens to be the air 4... notice hardly any metal difference between 1st and 2nd generation 11" pro... they more than made up for that this year on the third gen with the metal performance on the M1 being 21058.

The GPU scores on the M1 are very good, but the big issue right now, especially on the M1 Macs, is that none of the big AAA games are available to be played on M1 devices right now. Games like the Witcher 3, COD Modern Warfare, Cyberpunk etc would work well with the M1 GPU, but alas they are not available. Apple really need to work with these games studios to bring these titles to M devices ASAP. I suppose though in the meantime, the M1 GPU can be used to speed up video and 3D graphics rendering etc, although Final Cut Pro needs to be ported to the M1 IPad Pro also. It would also be interesting to see how the A14 Bionics CPU on Air 4 renders FCP videos.

You’re absolutely right which is why the iPad will always be a sidepiece...when I’m ready to game I boot up an Alienware, simple as that...that’s why a Mac is useless to me as well. Borderlands 3, Outriders, CyperPunk all the games play like butter on my laptop.

I can never go back to a non 120 Hz iPad … its not so noticeable when I go to my iPhone, but really feel it when I have to use my 2020 iPad (10.2”).

I suppose that if you never owned a ProMotion device, my point will have little relevance.

Yes ive got my vanilla PS4 and despite being like 7 years old now, plays the big AAA games smooth as butter. At the moment i'm flipping between COD Modern Warfare and Greedfall, then will start playing 'Days Gone' after.

Need to try Outriders most everything has been worked out and the game and graphics are pretty good...I just can’t do consoles ...to old school but nice thing is Outriders is crossplay and I play with couple friends onPS4 and it’s seamless

Need a dedicated GPU , It maybe faster than intels on board graphics but the M1 is still on board graphics.

yep, by the time Apple will, hopefully, bring enough AAA games to the store, M2/3/4 iPad pro will, again hopefully, have enough GPU power to play them...

I tried an iPad Air and ended up exchanging it for the 11” Pro. The faster screen and M1 make a noticeable difference in my opinion.

I have a Ryzen 3800x system with an Nvidia RTX 2070 with a G-Sync display for playing any AAA games and a Nintendo Switch. I haven’t felt the itch to get a PS4 or an Xbox with this setup.

You cant beat the PC Master race when it comes to gaming of course, but as you get older and want things simpler, a PS4 as part of your AV set up with a controller and your sofa is just bliss sometimes!!! The graphics may be only Low/Mid and 30 FPS graphics settings compared to the PC version, but at least the PS4 is optimised get the best performance out of its dated hardware.

I assume Apple tests all possible configurations before finalizing the specs, so I imagine they would’ve compared using A14 with 4GB RAM to A14 with 5GB RAM, and they probably performed about the same. But still, it would’ve been nice for longevity‘s sake to have the Air include 5GB RAM, giving it the edge over the average 2018 Pro, while remaining below the 2020 Pros.

I think it just bothers me that the Air has half the RAM of the base 2021 Pros and only a quarter of highest 2021 RAM. I think it’s amusing that when you compare iPads on the Apple website, they list RAM on the new Pros, but not on any other iPad. I guess according to Apple, RAM didn’t exist in iPads until 2021.

You’re blatant denial is enough proof for the rest of us to see you’re just trying to convince yourself my friend. If you’re happy then carry on, but if you need to sit there and lie about it, then maybe you’re not all that satisfied. I’ve owned both

Having said all that about RAM, I must say it doesn‘t seem to be a big deal when it comes to certain apps. That Divinity game people are talking about requires a minimum of an A12, but doesn’t seem to have much RAM requirements. The Air 3, Mini 5 and iPad 8 all have A12 and 3GB RAM, while the 2017 iPad Pros have A10X and 4GB RAM. Some people were advising prospective buyers of the Air 3 in 2019 to opt for the Pro 2017 instead for its extra RAM and better multi-core performance. Looks like those things didn’t matter when it comes to Divinity.

I don't think 5GB's an option. Probably straight to 6GB. The Air 4 was released back when the 2020 iPad Pro was still the top dog. Despite not advertising RAM amounts for previous generations, Apple probably didn't want the $599 Air to be even closer to the $799 Pro.

Also, probably just cost savings as well. 4GB is cheaper than 6GB.
