IMHO, LeClerc deserves the win today just for that helmet!
That’s Gasly’s helmet. Real nice though. Leclerc’s is all green this weekend, looking like a football field.

As an American expat I really can’t stand the show the teams and drivers are trying to put on whenever they’re in the States. It’s all just tacky and awful. Imagine the backlash if the grid always dressed up as parodies of each country they visit throughout the year.

When I was a child, there used to be a studio discussion, 30 minutes before broadcast, a round up of events, at 2pm, cut to the live shots, cars on the grid, lights out, race... end of race, discussion, then cut back to podium, 5 min discussion, done..

Now if you watch sky, it is 90 minutes of pure cringe, of stupid gimmicks, of endless interviews, sometimes they talk to the same victim 3 or 4 times, ambush before, during and on the grid, the gridwalk, it is the worst crime in broadcasting..serves no useful purpose other than to annoy..

There is a lot of bias in what Sky broadcast, never really cover the minor teams, Hass, Williams, Mclaren.. All max all the time, then Sky make a mountain of a molehill with what Stroll did..Maybe it just me, but all of the broadcast gimmicks are just that gimmicks, tat and cringe.. Liberty know a lot, a lot of how to broadcast garbage, now they are so in love with Sprints, not sure I get the whole concept of Sprints, maybe to explain F1 to nascar dads??

And a lot of people don't like talking to Martin Brundle... lol

I'm no fan of Sky either, but at least they now acknowledge Max opposed to just Lewis this and that.

Naturally, you don't have to watch it ;) Go to a track, hear, feel, smell it. Way better, except for the main race event. Can't beat TV for that one.

If I have to attend any sport at any track/stadium, then I choose test match cricket...5 days, if it ends in a draw in the last hour, so much the better, sometimes this is better than a win... But to pay a pension for 2 hours of boring...nope... TV wins..

LOL Any sport where they break for a cup of tea shouldn't be a sport. ;) The Big Bash League (Twenty20) is about my limit with cricket. Talk about boring...

Prediction for what lap Max takes the lead? I’m going with 12.
Over the 18 lap sprint he finished 9 seconds ahead of Lewis. That’s 30 seconds quicker every lap.

The funny thing is if RBR were not miles ahead, this would have been a great season, with different drivers and teams vying for top spot all season long.

Sprint races need to go. I’m not interested. They are just a practice race. If you win one it’s not a race victory.

They are designed for a generation who don’t have an attention span that lasts more than 30 minutes.

I'll go with that. Initially I was thinking Lap 10, however I think he will be more conservative than usual at the start bring the tires in a bit slower then punch out.

You're being generous on the Sprint Race with the 30min attention span.

See the Las Vegas race for proof.

And Monaco. And Singapore. And Baku. And Miami. And Riyadh. And Sochi. And back in the day Adelaide and Long Beach (let us not talk about Detroit and Phoenix).

The street races are there to pump up the "glamor" aspect that has been part of F1 since the 1980s.

And the super excited Apple CEO waving the flag 🤣🤣

At the time I had no reason why he was there, but now with the reports that Apple is looking to buy the broadcast rights to Formula One, he was no possibly there to see what he was considering buying.

OK, the sprint was designed to do what?

To give those attending an event an incentive to buy a three-day ticket and to spend more time at the track. Of course, it certainly improves broadcast viewership and gives the team's and sport's sponsors more exposure.

As noted, I am not a huge fan of the sprint, though I do like the opportunity to watch more racing. I am very happy that this year they dropped the Sprint Race results setting the field for the race on Sunday and having an actual qualifying session on Friday. I still feel Friday Practice on a Sprint weekend needs to be much longer (say double the current amount) to allow teams enough time to dial in their cars for both the Sprint and the main race.

110% agree. Even the fans at the event seem to think it is as cringey as those of us watching the broadcast.

Unless it's Brundle on the mic, of course. 😆

Yes, Brundle and Ted ;) I also agree that Friday practice should be extended.

What could be fun though, to spice it up a bit more is to not make the sprint races a manufacturer's race but effectively, everyone in the same car, same setup, same tyres. Naturally, that is purely theoretical, as in practice there is no such thing as having the same cars with the same setup…

With Verstappen starting sixth, I can’t see anything but an easy win for him. I think he’ll be in first place by lap 16. Don’t worry folks the season is nearly over. I do like this circuit though, it’s a challenging track and one where Lewis usually does well at. Hopefully we’ll see Lewis and George or Lando on the podium tonight. Not staying up for the highlights of this one though, it’s on stupidly late for a Sunday night (12.30am), i’ll read about it in the morning.

Norris with a great start to pip LeClerc for the lead and Lewis moving up to 2nd, but Max is already dispatching folks so Lap 16 sounds about right @The-Real-Deal82.

Ocon retiring with damage after tangling with Piastri, who went a few more laps before he too retired with damage.

Well hopefully Lewis has his elbows out and makes it difficult for Max, before Lando’s long wait for his first victory is stolen away once again.

At least it took half-distance for Max to take the lead. And he has a pit stop ahead of him, which nobody else in the upper positions does (as they all went for the one-stop).

At least it was close at the end, as Max appeared to have braking issues that allowed Lewis to close within two seconds at the checkered flag. Norris completed the podium.

Just saw the result pop up, I did listen to a bit of it on 5Live and it sounded like Max was easily working his way through to the front as predicted. Sad that a braking issue is the only way anybody can finish within a few seconds of him. Cool to see two Brits on the podium though, best possible result.

Bad form by the USA with all the booing against Max and changing of Checo during the national anthems. The “fans” really showing themselves for what they are.

Well done McLaren and Mercedes. They are getting closer and closer. But good to see max getting another win in. 🥰😎

Not to excuse bad behavior, but I saw plenty of Red Bull jerseys in the stands so Max and Sergio seem to have plenty of fans in the USA. And the Dutch fans have been notorious for their boorish behavior at Grands Prix across the globe for the past couple of years.

Jerks will be jerks, regardless of nationality.

Would be nice to be able to go back and have Mercedes pit Lewis 2 laps earlier. He might have caught Max with the brake issues ongoing….

Congratulations to Lando on DOD. Well done.

Unfortunate to hear my fellow Americans showing their true colors with all the Max Boo’s. Not surprised though. Texas is heavy on Sergio support and conspiracies.

Master Drive by Max. Congratulations on #50. 😉

You clearly didn’t watch then. Even live F1 commentary was remarking on it.

Nothing like that happened in Zandvoort. It was an amazing atmosphere.

It was a Texas thing……..
