What is their issue with Michael?

I have heard that Michael and former Liberty CEO Greg Maffei had a very tense relationship at McLaren in 1993. Maffei was absolutely against any Andretti involvement in an F1 team and I would not be surprised if he helped block Michael's attempt to buy Sauber (which Audi subsequently did).

And FOM wants full customer teams only and at the time, GM was going to provide "customer PSUs" only (to Andretti in 2028 and then to any other interested teams in 2029). So they were not interested in allowing Andretti-Global in (nor any other non-factory team the FIA might have approved along with them).

So now with Maffei no longer CEO, Andretti no longer going to be a Team Principal or other senior management position and GM agreeing to be a full factory effort, Liberty and FOM were ready to sign.

Can anyone explain why SKYF1 has to have adverts during the FP sessions? Long up to 10 minutes of adverts, we get the SKYF1 feed here, and sometimes, when it is a late night/early morning feed, sometimes the crew in the local broadcaster here, are dozing, and miss the switch, so we see the Idents, test pattern and where it is coming from.. Yet I have seen whole broadcasts where there is no adverts.. I know Sky comms team is the one feeding F1TV, so I assume F1Tv has no mid session wee breaks... Only SkyF1, and SkyF1 in the UK is stupid expensive add on to the SKY subs..

Kicked Sky into the long grass last year, good riddance. The answer to your question is money, simple as. They have to pay those footballer multi million pound pay rises somehow after all. Literally that’s what you are paying Sky for, because it in turns bids several billion pounds sterling for 3 years coverage of a premiership football competition. One year they bid so much for it, that every person in the British premiership league, from footballers to cleaners ALL got pay rises, thanks to Sky.

We just use Now TV, no sport, and cancel whenever you want and when you do cancel you get a decent offer without speaking to a human trying to con you, plus a VPN and F1TV app is the way to go.

How do you pay for F1TV? Do they accept a Uk credit card and billing address?

If you use a VPN on a device such as an iPhone/iPad you can pay via Apple Bay which obscures a lot of this information from the seller. I did this for a few months but don't bother now.

My advice if you're doing F1TV via VPN is only do it monthly, not annually. They regularly block new IP ranges. So you could find yourself pay for a year and then not be able to access it after a month or two.

As stupid as it sounds Apple Pay, and it’s in £ not $. I just use my standard British Apple Pay account too. I never used my VPN to pay for it either and it’s worked fine for 2 or 3 years now. I only use a VPN to use the app.

I'm probably going to get a Firestick with Sky on it in the new year. Nearly everybody where I work has them and Sky must be wondering why so few people now subscribe to Sky in South Wales. My father in law has been trialling one for the last 3 months after the last subscription he had was closed down after using it for a number of years. Good quality picture and I think it was £80 for the year with every single Sky channel. It probably won't change my viewing habits though as I rarely get time to sit down on a Sunday afternoon anymore to watch races, but it'll be good to have a TV with the option. Plus there is an app.

Personally I’m fine with the channel 4 highlights show. They show enough of the race and qualifying. Not a big fan of subscriptions. I pay £4 a month for Now TV and that’s about it. You can pay for an F1 weekend pass, but not ever felt like I needed to.

We subscribe to Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon and Disney+ which is less than a basic Sky subscription. I'm happy with Channel 4 highlights too as they have a better team and like you its long enough. I wouldn't get the firestick purely for F1, I had it before and ended up rarely watching it, but might be worth it for some of the other content.

Today in "What's happening in the FIA?"

- Tim Mayer, Chairman of the Stewards has been sacked by MBS. His other list of duties is too long to put into a post.
- Janette Tan, deputy Race Director and was due to be F2 Race Director, has been sacked by MBS. She was also the Director of Race Operations at the Singapore GP.

Both are long term, highly respected FIA employees. Mayer said he was fired because MBS was upset that Mayer was involved in the COTA appeal regarding the track invasion (which he should be, as part of his role). MBS took it personally that Mayer had the right to review the paperwork regarding this, and fired Mayer.

Mayer has said the FIA is now running out of senior stuff to do the required jobs.

MBS needs to be removed. He’s clearly loosing grasp of what his position is.

A reporter asked George “what his thoughts about the race were.” His response was “Wait to see what FIA members are fired next.”

Not a good look for F1 or the FIA.

The FIA/F1 don't care about "good looks" it is about enriching the chosen.. F1/FIA is about a legit as the ref panel on a WWE broadcast.. Actually that Brad Spit movie, is it a movie or a documentary? The latter would explain the FIA!!!

Yup, I used a UK building society to pay for it. It was linked to my F1 account that I use to pay for tickets and events. I did do the initial setup when I was abroad, IIRC I was in Cyprus or the Netherlands, but did use my UK car and UK billing address.

I would rethink such illegal activity if I were you ;)

I think some culture differences are maybe showing in MBS decisions, such as the jewellery and swearing, although why a driver needs to swear in a press meeting is beyond me, they can at least act like adults during that time. But he isn’t the best person at the job. I thought he would settle things down after Masi with having the two race director rule etc, but they soon messed it up lol.

Whoever came up with the sprint races should just be fired though…

The car is ****ed is a succinct description of what the issue was. I wouldn't class it as swearing. Have heard it at all levels in my working career from work floor, out in the field on ops, to the boardroom, to ministerial meeting.

I like them, but then again it seems I'm alone in more things in this thread 🤣

I definitely disagree, you swearing on a work floor is a world away from drivers being interviewed on live TV being broadcast around the world to children as well as adults.
