I thought I heard they won't be that much slower. We will see I guess. Yeah I expect a shake up in the orders.
From the predictions I have seen, its suggesting about 2 seconds per lap slower, so we may not notice anything drastic from a fan level.

I'd like to see George fighting next year. Out of all the drivers this season he has impressed me the most. He had big boots to fill after Lewis left and I had my doubts in 2024, but he really punched in the consistency this season and was solid, picking up a couple of wins too. I like the fact he is not afraid to keep a wheel in there too and is one of the few drivers Max knows most likely won't move out of the way. He is one to watch next year if that Mercedes PU is as good as many are suggesting. A shake up of the order will be most welcome and imagine if it was a 2009 style scenario with an unexpected dominator? We can only hope.

George did impress.

I just want the Williams to be a little more competitive...

They spent the second half of the season exclusively developing the 2026 car so hopefully that will give them an edge over McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari who continued to develop their 2025 cars later into the season.
I thought Ferrari switched to the 2026 car early as well?

Either way I expect Mercedes to be the team to beat. As this will be the first season without Adrian and Christian having any involvement, it would be surprising if RBR are as competitive as this season.

My understanding is that Ferrari stopped development on the SF-25 after China.

I agree. I think if Mercedes has a good chassis George will be in contention. I’m certain he will have the power.

My money will be (again) on McLaren. Their chassis design and engineering department is top-notch, so I expect the MCL40 to come out of the gate strong. They will also have AMG PUs and two very motivated drivers.

The downside is Zack’s statement last week that Papaya Rules will be the same as 2025. A recipe for more missed strategy.

Papaya rules next year means Norris gets all the dubious strategy decisions and slow pitstops? ;)

Or I'm being too cynical.

Media is suggesting that Piastri will leave McLaren (mind you, dubious sources).

I just wish diversity-hire Tsunoda had showed some guts, and moved right over to the white line.
An airborne Norris would have been most satisfying. The whining little brat.

Also, using the word ‘Papaya’ sets my teeth on edge. I guess Mustard Yellow isn’t cool enough?View attachment 2588278View attachment 2588280View attachment 2588279View attachment 2588282View attachment 2588281
I find your comment quite offensive. You wish one driver would shoot another into the air? We all have our favourite drivers. But I think wishing them most likely physical harm is a bit much.

Personally I like Lando. Doesn’t come across as you describe at all. He wears his heart on his sleeve, but I don’t have a problem with that.

It’s 2025. I’d have them looping the loop, and driving upside-down on the straights. Instead we got Sunday’s procession, and 2 hours of predictable inevitability.

Very unusual for an engine manufacturer in F1 to hold its own event. It’s looking like Honda is very serious about their new PU for 2026. Toshihiro Mibe being at the event shows deep pride in the engine (IMO). Bodes well for AMG not having 20hp on everyone off the line. I expect nothing remarkable from Ferrari.

100% agreed.

So Charles Leclerc is laying the groundwork for a possible ship-jumping in 2027, noting that 2026 is a "now or never" moment for Ferrari to return to their winning form from previous seasons. He has also said that he believes Lewis can "bounce back" next season.

Fred Vasseur has, predictably, played down Leclerc's comments, but he did note that the team is focused on improving next season and that the SF26 will be "100% new" and will not suffer the problems that plagued the SF25 this season.

Lewis won’t stay in 2027 either if the Ferrari isn’t competitive.

This whole Papaya Rules narrative feels like pure media spin. Also, talking of media spin, over the past couple of weeks, there’s been a noticeable push to inflate Max Verstappen’s 2025 season, complete with inevitable comparisons to Ayrton Senna and the suggestion that he’s the “true champion” simply because he managed a strong chase of the McLarens. Honourable mentions go to Jacques Villeneuve for his relentless attempts to discredit Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, and to Ralf Schumacher, who somehow finds a way to praise Max in every discussion, while simultaneously safeguarding his brother’s legacy by insisting Lewis Hamilton has been “lucky” at every level of motorsport and in every championship winning car he’s driven. People say social media and 'Drive To Survive' have injected a juvenile trash-talking element to the sports fanbase but I think we need to realise that a couple of mediocre drivers from the late 90's, early 00's play their part, whilst also keeping themselves on the payroll.

Take this with as much seasoning as you feel appropriate, but YouTuber FP1Will had drinks with a friend who is well-placed within Aston Martin F1 and he related the following:

Newey has transformed Aston's technical department. Newey proclaimed that the gearbox needed to be shortened by 80mm (3 inches). When told it was not possible, he hand-drew said new gearbox in under two hours. Lawrence Stroll also verbally pissed on everyone's parade at the Christmas Party, telling them that for the money he has spent, the team has failed miserably. And, to nobody's surprise, the entire staff hate Lance and every year hope the rumors he is leaving come true.

In terms of engine development, AMG is in first place, with Honda and Ferrari close behind. Red Bull-Ford is a fair bit farther back and Audi's engine is effectively unusable.

He also said that Cadillac will likely not turn a lap during winter practice as their Silverstone aero department only has 40 people. The team is offering massive recruitment bonuses to try and poach aero staff from other teams.

I can certainly believe the Aston Martin comments as Lawrence has emotionally berated staff before after poor performances, something that was talked about in 2023 when the team started strong after some Fernando Alonso podiums, and then started slipping back. Lance has been known to use his crash helmet as a hammer on the garage floor too on a number of occasions when qualifying hasn't gone as well as he'd fantasised in his dreams. Perhaps the christmas party rant will help Cadillac as they are pretty much next door and in need of staff?

It will be weird next year if the rumours are true with Red Bull and we have to start watching Max fight much further back with Ford power. It will certainly test Schumacher and Villeneuves claims he can make the difference in inferior cars, although I am inclined to believe he is a great driver, but also human.

Absolutely hilarious review of the 2025 season.
