Looks like they re more commonly available on the refurb store now, which is nice.

As of this morning there's both i5 and i7 on the store.

Yeah....they still definitely go quickly, but it's nice to finally have a consistent option.

One would think they worked out the issues, as it seems like there's a flood of them all of the sudden after a long long wait for Refurb i5's & i7's.

Mine arrives tomorrow morning! Can't wait.

Only bummer is the "proprietary connector" for the hard drive, as it's currently not possible to put in a 3rd party SSD (for instance) without a bit of a hack solution.

I looking at the refurb. i5 iMac and with tax it will cost me $1822.60 (shipped, with tax) while a new i5 from PC Connection will cost me $1849 (shipped, with rebate, and no tax). It doesn't seem to be worth it for just $27. What am I missing here? Maybe less of a concern about the yellow tint issues?

Good point. But you have to pay up front 1949.00 not 1849 and wait for the rebate.

what do you really lose buying the refurb ? i don't think any thing really .. except maybe the better looking box

Yeah, I saw that. I've been tempted to grab one of those refurb 27" models with the 4850. @ -$300 seems like a good deal. The only thing I worry about is running games under Windows 7 at that really high native resolution.

Perhaps I should sell this 6 month old iMac 24" refurb with 8800GS.

"Sigh" Chasing the latest, greatest is hard work!

Cheers,

You purchase new macs every 6 months?

Sometimes, just depends on how compelling the upgrade is and if I can get a decent amount for the old one.

I've bought 3 windows gaming laptops in the last 26 months and it's only cost $300 total after selling the prior two units.

Sometimes you just want the next new thing. Just means bringing lunch to work for a few months. :)

cheers,

ordered my i5 refurb lat Thursday, still hasn't shipped yet, anyone (in Canada) order a 27" i5 and have it already ship? or perhaps even receive it?

iMac Core i7

They have them back in stock. I just ordered mine...This is my first Mac. Looking forward to the experience.

1849.00

I ordered my i7 on the 10th and received it yesterday (the 16th).

It does come in just a big plain white box. Nothing on it at all to distinguish the box as an iMac. Inside, it appears that it contains everything that the new models contain. I did note that the box the keyboard / mouse / etc. come in states "Genuine Apple Refurnished" or something like that.

I did get everything out of the box but was not able to turn it on (or even plug it in) to see how the screen looked. The unit itself appeared to be in very good condition. (I was a little concerned, as I had heard reports recently of some people getting units that had some scratches on them, etc.)

I will try to get it up and running in the next day or so - and I will report back on the screen at that time.

i got my refurb i5 last evening. White box, cosmetically great shape. I only had time to start it up and look at it for a few minutes. This was my second machine and when I started that one up and put up a white background or went to a site with a white background (like this one) I could clearly see yellow.
This new one has no yellow. I put up a white background and nothing. I won't say the color temp is perfect from inch to inch on the screen, but it is not a $2000-$4000 monitor like an nec or ezio. However, the uniformity of the screen looks as good or better than any lcd I have in my home for computers or TV.
I am a photographer and am pretty critical when it comes to color. Things could change after some usage and if it does I'll post again.

Sales tax kind of kills the savings from buying a refurb from Apple, however the i7 may still be a good buy especially if you get a free upgrade to the 2 TB hard drive.

One more reason to buy from Apple- it's a lot easier to do an exchange/return if you get a bad iMac, which seems to be happening a lot with these new models. IMO, the only on line retailer whose return policy is as good or better than Apple's is Amazon.

Are these refurbished iMacs safe to buy?

It seems many are still experiencing defects with the screen.

As with all electronic products there are some inherent risks and not every product will be 100%.

At this point, it seems just as likely that you will get a refurbished iMac that has problems as it to purchase a brand new iMac.

Are the i5/i7 models available yet in the UK Apple refurb store? I haven't seen any...

Arn't these machines under Apple's standard warranty whether you purchase from an authorized reseller or from Apple itself? I wouldn't think it would make a difference (for defective machines).

I saw the 27" i7 back in stock two days ago and finally pulled the trigger. Glad I did, because now I see that the i7 is out of stock again and Apple has raised the price by $100! Same for the i5, which was $1699 and is now $1799. First time I've ever seen a price increase on refurbs!

Only thing I am bummed about is the free "Standard Shipping" ended up being Fedex Ground, which means it is being driven on a truck clear across the country and won't get here till 3/24. Waiting is the hardest part!

You do get the same warranty, and Apple may even issue a replacement for an Apple product bought elsewhere which is pretty good support, a lot of companies would tell you to go through the retailer.

But a warranty won't help you if you decide that you want a refund. IMO, the best return/refund policy is at either Amazon or Apple. Both will issue a full refund (no restocking BS), they'll pay the return shipping, and they both refund promptly.
