Anyone else having this issue?

After updating my iphone 3g to 3.1 (and waiting for-freaking-ever for it to backup) and seeing everything was working fine (Safari seemed snappier ;-) )I went about my day. Made a stop at the bookstore and was going to whip out my phone to check amazon prices when lo and behold my phone would not do anything. Wouldn't respond to me holding down the home key or the power key. It did reset after doing a reboot (holding both the home and power button for 10 seconds).

It happened again on the way home so I decided to plug it into my macbook to "wake" it up but absolutely nothing happened. I have hardware growler installed to see what gets plugged into my macbook and nothing popped up. I unplugged it, pushed some buttons again, messed with the silence switch a few times and nothing.

The weirdest thing happened a few minutes later. The phone started vibrating and the screen kept turning on and off. It was like it was finally responding to all of the input I had given it a few minutes minutes earlier.

So anyone have this happen to them?

I'm going to restore it to see if that fixes it.

Also another wonky thing I had happen was the auto-dimmer never undimmed until I locked the screen and unlocked it.

Oh and btw, the battery is fully charged.

Me too. Three times so far. Only thing that works is holding home and sleep for 10 seconds.

Haven't tried restoring or anything yet though.

I experienced this one time with 3.0.1. Non repsonsive to everything but a reset.

Happened to me. Ford Sync said no phone when I got in the car and it didn't respond to any buttons.

Eventually after 3 minutes it responded but with no signal message. Another minute it appears the radio returned.

I just had a random number of apps refuse to start while others had no issue. I ended removing one of the random problem ones and all other problem childs ran including the deleted one I reinstalled.

restored twice and its still doing it.... this is wonderful... i even took a friends phone and called mine... it rang like it was on but it never lit up or responded. stayed completely black

+1

Left on the dock overnight to charge, in the morning was completely unresponsive. Meant I missed my alarm

Reset just brought it back to life. Will see how it goes today.

EDIT: Wasn't, and never has been, jb.

It happened to me for awhile - I think because it was re-downloading all my emails. I left it plugged in, with the Mail app running. After an hour or so everything seems to be working fine...dare I say "snappy"? :D

Bump. Mine does the same. I find it worrying that when people ring me and it has crashed in my pocket that I will have no idea. Unless I keep checking my phone every 10 mins.

Q. Is anyone a MobileMe subscriber?

Yep, MobileMe here.

Ah. Me too. Just thought that this started happening around the same time as when I go to check my emails and there would be an empty inbox, until it checked and they all came back. Only happens sometimes. Wonder if it is related?

Ooooo the plot thickens...

Should I get in contact with Apple? If so, what I do LOL

I'm a mobile me subscriber as well.

Well I restored it from backup last night around 10pm and as of 1:30pm today it has yet to lock up on me. Or rather, any time I've been wanting to use it it hasn't been locked up.

If it happens again I'll try to restore it to factory defaults.

Me as well. Maybe a pattern? Have had a couple more lockups during the day today. Boo, not impressed. Maybe will downgrade to 3.0?

If you find out how to downgrade to 3.0 please post it. It has to be a MobileMe problem. It can't be a coindidence...

Upgraded to 3.1 this morning. I had a black screen with no response as well. Holding home and power to reset it. Happened once so far.

Also, I don't use MobileMe.

Im curious anyone with Mobile me who has had this problem can you remove mobile me off the device restart the device and then see if you have the problem?

That way we would know for sure. I would love to try but I use my iPhone for work and use MobileMe for that.
