Hardware wise, the iPad is amazing. There is nothing I would change in that aspect.

My beef is against the software (developers). I wish Office was desktop quality. I wish iOS apps were the same as desktop apps, albeit also optimized for touch/Pencil. Then I would go fully into iPad-only computing.

But they’re not, so I can’t fully embrace the iPad as my sole computer. Everything else stated above is nice, but it’s only putting a bandage over a gushing wound.

What was your job? Many of Sony's professional reference monitors are OLEDs. These are what big movie studios are using to edit and color correct blockbuster movies.

In fact, until last year, all of top end Sony reference monitors were OLEDs. Only last year were they able to create an LCD model to compete in this category.

That would not be advertised, nor would it be visible from the outside. It would come as slight changes to the internal shell design, with improved internal bracing in critical spots. They did this with the iPhone 6s for example, and also changed the aluminum alloy at the same time.
I worked in home theater for couple years but had to do training to be more informed on the specifics of current technologies. I had already been a TV and tech junkie though, so I knew most of what they taught, but learned a bunch of new things still. I then transferred to geek squad and was the home theater and Apple specialist as the other GS team were more windows, Android, and PC tech.
I still practically live at Best Buy lol... and I always talk with my friends about the new tech and specs of things. OLED looks better than anything in terms of colors and contrast, but they still are only 60hz. Again, they have to use software to achieve the soap opera/motion effect of other companies or models due to the limitations of OLED.
Now obviously I don’t know everything or even 1% of everything, but I do have a better understanding than not... I think. ha ha ha

Obviously wasn’t only OLED as they edited films long before that tech came out.
atleast that’s what I’m learning in my film editing classes and program. But I’m still only an amateur. So forgive any incorrect statements.

For me OLED. Love the screen of my X. This was one reason I chose the Air3 over the Pro. Don’t want to spend that premium price w/o getting an OLED display.

- 5G cellular.
- 2TB Storage option.
- eGPU support through the USB-C port that would be upgraded to a Thunderbolt 3 port.

As others have pointed out, the hardware is already pretty good but I would never argue against more memory/faster processors/more storage. The OS needs much more work than the hardware does. So hardware-wise I would say:

OLED screen
5G
More storage (though not if it comes at the obscene prices Apple charges to upgrade)

I don’t really need anything to make me throw MORE money at Apple. ;-p

Truthfully, I doubt I even begin to utilize the many features that are currently available on my pro. I need an “iPad pro for dummies” book.

1. Haptic Feedback and long press options like the iPhone
2. Full mouse support (comparable to mouse support on Mac)
3. Better choice of covers and cases (something other than folio in black and white)

Coming from a 2nd gen 12.9” ipp, I’d want (besides normal incremental hardware updates):

1. usbc port with displayport protocol for true monitor/cintiq mode (better than Sidecar because of wider compatibility and zero lag, but keep sidecar too for wireless option)
2. Affixed keyboard (personally since I use the keyboard/stand often, I would prefer a slightly heavier clamshell with permanent 360 hinge keyboard over a floppy keyboard and top heavy display)
3. etched glass for better drawing/writing texture and reduced glare and fingerprints (though this would decrease screen clarity)
4. Front facing speakers would always be nice
5. Perhaps bigger size options (14”-17”)

And for the pencil:
1. on/off switch (most ideal would be battery-less tech)
2. better weight balance
3. physical side button
4. Hovering cursor for better precision
5. Different tip options (different materials and point sharpness)

And if staying with the smart keyboard, I’d like an extra usbc port on the side of the keyboard (and the proper protocols built into the smart connector).

1. 11.8 inch OLED screen (with smaller bezels)
2. Faster storage speed and memory bandwidth to eventually support thunderbolt 3.
3. Improving on the already great speakers.

It has everything I need now, with one exception...

One missing thing is to be able to hide AND UNHIDE apps without having to go to iTunes. Really?!?

Honestly I’m happy with everything hardware-wise with my 10.5 Pro. The only things I really want for the iPad are software additions. Full mouse support is number 1. Having the missing iOS apps come over would be right after that. (Health/Activity, Weather, Wallet, Calculator, Phone with voicemail access).

I have other software things I’d like but they aren’t iPad-specific and apply to iOS as well. (Specifically: Having all devices, such as iPhone and iPads, appearing in the Now Playing Control Center widget; having all devices connected to an iCloud account appear in the Battery widget; having all of my live stations from Fubo playable via the TV app; having alarms/timers in the Clock app sync across devices).

1. macOS is not designed for touch screens. A “touch screen” version would have to be so redesigned, it would practically be a new OS. Better to just make iPadOS more powerful. Besides, the OS itself is fine, it’s more pro apps that would be more useful. Like a good 3D modeling/sculpting app.

3. It would probably just make the iPad heavier and it would still be bendy. Not sure, ofc, but people just assume there is an easy way to make something thin and light and super resistant at the same time.
I don't know why people keep saying this about MacOS not being designed for touch... The only OS that had been was Windows 8 and people flipped. Windows 10 UI isnt optimized for touch but it works, Windows 7 wasnt but somehow it worked for people, hell even XP had touch tablet pcs and its UI wasnt optimized for touch. Mac OS X can work fine on a touch screen even if it isnt optimized, the people who make the ModBook conversions have it work. All Apple would have to do is create adjustable scaling and thats really it. iOS is just a stripped version of MacOS so they already have the framework for touch so they dont even have to develop it. They are just to arrogant to admit they were wrong about people actually wanting touch screen computers.

Wow, that’s a pretty cool list of features! Would love to have those! :)

I’d like them to find a way to make using the Pencil feel like using paper. I don’t care if it means different tip technology or glass surface technology. Writing on glass is too slippery with the current tech.

From all the reviews of reMarkable (an e-ink tablet) it actually feels like drawing on paper. They use plastic (acrylic) instead of glass though, and colors would be less saturated if same was used on iPad. Apple could also use etched glass (like on the Apple XDR display) but that would increase the cost and pencil tips would wear off very quickly. So I don't think we'll ever feel like using paper as long as glass is used on iPads.

I would love on OSX type software on the iPad, but honestly all I truly need are full featured apps. Even with the power of the pro iPads, devs still cut features from the iOS versions of the apps. Honestly the screens have never been a factor for me, nor the material composition, but the money Id throw for a flush camera design.

Well thought-out software. I think the good days are still yet to come especially with iPadOS being marked out but I feel the OS is a bit of a mess as it is, with some of the core paradigms being unintuitive, while the heavy reliance on gestures makes this even worse. I think the app paradigm is being stretched too much and in general the feature set also feels very reactive rather than the result of a team that is considering this as a redefinition of the computer, which just makes it even more confusing.

Hardware wise I think the iPad Pro is just incredible.
