My phone history is as follows:

3G
4S
5
6
SE
8

The 6 was previously my favorite and was the first phone I thought about keeping for 3 years, but that has definitely been surpassed by my 8. I'm 3 months in with my launch day 8 and it is the best phone I've ever had, hands down. The form factor doesn't feel old to me (coming off the SE, may feel different coming off the 6 but it feels fresh again), and it feels so much more substantial and refined than the 6. Glass back is gorgeous, and the wireless charging is so convenient.

I do however have two gripes -

1) The proximity sensor can be really slow to respond when I pull the phone away from my ear (has done this across all software versions since launch day, could be my edge to edge protector but I really don't think so since it's perfectly aligned).
2) Battery seems to disappear. I'm a pretty light user and it has never been uncommon for me to take it off the charger in the morning at 6:30 and still be north of 85% by 11 PM that night. However with this phone I seem to be consistently in the 50-80% range by that time, and sometimes even lower. Sans screen brightness which I've generally kept on max on all iPhones, I have all my other settings managed for maximum battery life (location services only when using certain apps, minimum notifications, etc.). Yet for some reason the battery just doesn't seem to last as good as it has on other phones. Still good, just not outstanding like prior iPhones. This has also been pretty constant across all software iterations.

My battery is very healthy with a capacity of 1800 out of a max of 1821 mAh, according to that Battery Life app (98.8% capacity). Note however that Coconut battery indicates the design capacity is 1810 instead of 1821, and that my phone's capacity is only 1766 mAh (97.6%). Not sure why there's a discrepancy between those two apps.

So how is your 8/8+ and what are your praises/complaints?

My 8+ has been great. Coming from the 6s I really enjoy the bigger / brighter screen, loud stereo speakers, improved camera quality (especially low light), crazy speed of the A11, and incredible battery life. As great as the 8+ is though there’s still a small chance that I end up returning it. I keep going back and fourth with myself on if I should really treat myself or save the $900 ($800 plus tax) when I have a 6s that still works  I figure though that I worked my a** off this past year w/ over 360 hours of overtime and deserve a present, right?

At my job I have major downtime (sometimes 90% of the day) but I don’t want to surf the web on a company computer so it helps to have the bigger screen to pass the time watching video. In addition to improved watching the bigger size just makes everything I look at feel more spacious and not as cramped. The battery life is a major plus too since I never have to worry about making it through the day anymore. I’ve gotten days, albeit w/ WiFi and low brightness since I work in a dark environment, where I’ve used the 8+ for 14 hours of screen on time watching video / surfing the web / playing games and still have 10-20% left over o_O

Another major positive of my 8+ which it has in its favor of me keeping it is it’s on iOS 11.1.2 so it doesn’t have Apples throttling virus “feature” yet. My 6s is on 10.3.3 so it’s already infected. Apple also said it would bring the throttling “feature” to more devices in the future (ala iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2). If I keep it I plan to never update beyond 11.1.2 to ensure my device never gets throttled in the future and always retains its blazing fast speed of the A11 just like how it was the day I took it out of the box :)

Love my 8 so far! May not upgrade to iOS 12 to keep the battery life and speed Suber.

No complaints with my 8 plus. It's still fast, responsive, and does what I need it. I like the X design, but it's smaller. I rather wait to see if the X Plus comes then I will make the jump.

For me I prefer Touch ID and a home button.

Coming from a 3yo 6+, I love it.

That's why I think most would really appreciate the changes, coming from a 6+ to an iPhone 8, there are so many significant changes with the camera, processor, water resistance, True-tone, wireless charging, etc. Apple really refined this specific model over the years with four generations . If one was unsure with iPhone 8, you can't go wrong given how it's matured.

The 8+ is a great upgrade from a 6 series not so much from the 7.
I had the 8+ but chose to upgrade to the X.
Several reasons.
The 8+ is an excellent phone

iPhone 3G, 5, 6, SE, 8
I liked the SE more, the screen and water resistance are nice. But I miss the SE as it didn't weigh my pocket down and it wasn't as slippery as a bar as soap like the 8.
I'll get an SE2 if it comes out.

Love the 8 Plus & 8. Amazing phones.

I really dislike the speaker clipping issue. With that solved it’s damn near-perfect phone.

Agreed! Once Apple (hopefully) puts out a software update that fixes the crackling speakers, the iPhone 8 Plus is the perfect iPhone IMO...last best iPhone with a home button!

I absolutely love my 8+. My phone history includes the 4S, 5S, 6, 6S, 7+, 8+. Even coming from the 7+ I was absolutely blown away by the speed of the 8+. The water resistance is great, I love the louder speakers, True Tone looks amazing, and the camera is phenomenal. It was a wonderful upgrade and I’m glad I’ve recommended it to multiple friends who ended up getting it too

Really enjoying my 256GB 8 Plus bought on launch day.
Powerful, superb camera quality, classy, timeless design...

But to be honest I'm so looking forward for next year when the 2nd gen OLED iPhone arrvies.

I did not buy the X because all of Apple's new products (or major redesigns) broke on me this year (AirPods, Touchbar MBP) so I played it safe and got the classic design while waiting for Apple to improve the X design, FaceID and software tweaks for the button-less experience.
I will go OLED next year thats for sure.

Previous iPhones :

iPhone - 8GB
iPhone 3GS - 16GB
iPhone 4 - 16GB
iPhone 5 - 16GB
iPhone 5s - 16GB
iPhone 6 - 16GB
iPhone 6 Plus - 64GB
iPhone 6s Plus - 64GB

When i got my fist iphone 8 plus it was clicking all the time (even when using 3D touch) in the upper app row

https://i.imgur.com/UWod3EQ.jpg

I got it exchanged with a new unit, and it is fine for the most of the time. But every time it gets hot (gaming or heavy usage) it’s making a clicking noise in this part

https://i.imgur.com/Rg79Pa3.jpg

Unlike the first phone the clicking is more like “single click” noise when pressed harder, and if the phone is “cold” normal temp everything is perfect. When i’m out in the real world the phone is perfect, but when i come home the clicking is here to bother me :)))

Really dont know what to do. I had simullar isues with 6+ 6s+ and 7+ so maybe is the design itself

Other than that I love this phone. And IMO it is better investment than X

I'm in this boat. I have the 8+ (coming from a 6s) and it's a great upgrade. It's just too large for me to wield on a daily basis and that's the main reason I'm planning to swap for the X.

I have a thread on going from 8+ to 8 due to the speaker issue that is still unresolved. As of today, I’m going to go check out the Pixel 2 and possibly sit out the iPhone for a year or so. No solution for a busted sounding speaker and I’m still paying full price isn’t logical.

I know that I would prefer an Apple device and I have tested both Apple and Android for a living. With that said, if every phone from Apple is going to have this speaker clipping issue then I don’t want to be paying for phone that has it months after launch. I am not giving Apple more money for an X at this time I would rather not sell my Apple Watch but I have a Garman that will get me by for year.

I have been pretty patient with this. It is unfortunate and I think the 8/8+ is an amazing device

I am going to submit my resume to your job! Lol! And I would think the entire iOS 11 should be safe and it is iOS 12 and beyond we need to watch out for.

Anyway, my history
4
5s
8+

As you can see from my smartphone (I have only owned iPhones) history I am not one who needs the latest shiny new toy. Coming from 5s the large screen of 8+ is absolutely amazing. I looked at the X and some Samsung and Pixel phones after owning 8 plus for a month but their screens all appear either too small or too thin.

Water resistant is nice but wireless charging, Touch ID, true tone are all next to meaningless to me. And the large size, the weight and the lack of headphone jack don't bother me either. I am easy to please like that.

My biggest gripe comes from the limitation of iOS file system not 8 plus hardware.

The plus size wore on me.
The shortcomings that were beaten like a dead horse on this forum don’t seem to impact me.
The X size is perfect for me. The 8+ was good but the form factor of the X has won me over

I got an iPhone X and had it for about a month. It was nice but just wasn’t for me. I didn’t use any of the extras like Animoji and selfie portraits. The notch bugged me while watching videos which I do a lot. I have an 8+ now and love it. I do find myself swiping up from the Touch ID when trying to go to the home screen

Yes agreed big time! When I first got my iPhone 8 Plus, I thought the colors with True Tone enabled looked weird. Now though, I look at my old iPod Touch 4g and my dad’s iPhone 7 and it’s a world of difference...True Tone makes the screen look amazing!

Oh and did I mention enough about how amazing the battery life is on the 8 Plus?

Ain't that the truth. Returned my X, went back to my 7. I think my #1 and my only "complaint" with the 7 after using the X is the True Tone display adjustment. I bought an 8 and am going to see whether I care enough to buy a new phone...
Yeah after using my 8 + with True Tone turned on for almost a month now...I saw what a 7 screen looked like without True Tone and it’s night and day. The 8 + screen with True Tone is so much nicer and easier on the eyes! What a great advantage over the 7 series!

I've had the 8+ since release week and have not regretted the decision thus far.

I have played with the X in the meantime and it still feels shockingly "first gen" to me. It is very evident that the X was rushed and released an year early as some reports have indicated.. plus the X camera hump is horrendous (the notch is a necessary evil however that I have accepted).

Nevertheless, I am actually enjoying my 8+ more than I had anticipated but I am also looking forward to the X sequel next year.. hopefully a + variety will be available.

The things I like on my 8+ are the UI fluidity/camera quality/battery life/screen especially with true tone/wireless charging to name a few things!

Having come from a 7+.. I think the 7+ cannot compete with the 8+ on anything (maybe durability due to metal casing) although they look very similar in appearance.
