I have played with the X in the meantime and it still feels shockingly "first gen" to me. It is very evident that the X was rushed and released an year early as some reports have indicated.. plus the X camera hump is horrendous (the notch is a necessary evil however that I have accepted).

What about the X seems 1st gen to you? I don't get that feeling at all. And the camera hump is the same as the 8/8 Plus isn't it? I know the orientation is different but it's the same hump just flipped.

The 8/8 Plus are still great phones though and I feel this year you can't go wrong with those or the X. Plenty of choices for Apple fans.

The X is first-generation design. That isn't a feeling.. it just is.

The hump on the X is definitely larger, compared to the 8 or 8 Plus. I have/had both 8 and 8 Plus and my wife has the X.

And the 8/8 Plus is a 4 year old design... what's the point?

Great, thread turned into another 8/X sniping session

I have 8+, upgraded from a 6S. Overall it has been a significant upgrade and well worth the money. I went from intending to swap out to an X in the spring to wanting to keep this model through at least the next generation of FaceID phones in September.

Pluses, in order
- Outstanding battery life
- Wireless charging (more useful than I thought)
- Great camera, portrait mode is starting to find its uses
- Easy transition from iPhone 6S (I'm a heavy iPad Pro user, so no real need for me to go to full FaceID gestures yet)
- Smooth processor
- True Tone

Cons
- I enjoy the smaller form factor of the 7/8 whenever I go back to use them

Love my 8 Plus coming from a 6s possibly bet iPhone I’ve owned

Today I got to see and have a mess about on the X for the first time, lovely screen, the notch was annoying but I’d get used to that, was weird not having a home button but imagine after couple hours that’d be fine

Think I’ll upgrade my 8 Plus once the X Plus is out but for now I’ll enjoy the 8 Plus

I returned my 8 10 days after I got it.
Biggest issue was butt dialing while being carried in a belt holster. My 6S never butt dialed while in the holster.
The other annoyance was the haptic home button, didn't like it.
Back to sim swapping my 6S and SE and suspect once I am back to the SE, will stay there. To me the SE is the perfect size and does everything I need a smartphone to do which, granted, isn't very much.

It was a response to a comment.. or question of what makes one think it's a first-year design.
[doublepost=1515095309][/doublepost]Went back to the 8 Plus from the 8. I appreciate the 8 and how easy it is to carry and toss in pockets but the screen, battery and photo editing on the Plus is what I need/want.

To be fair, the 4 was also a "first-gen" design, but still adored by many today as their favorite iPhone design. The X, in my opinion, is the absolute best hardware package available right now.

I think the 8/8+ are great as well being the final form of the design introduced a few years ago.

Not possible. The iPhone requires skin contact to make the screen work unlike Androids which work no matter what. And your screen should of been locked in the first place.

Yay I knew you would go back to the 8 Plus! Do I sometimes miss how portable the smaller iPhones are? Yes...but to me it’s not a big deal when you get a much larger screen, amazing battery life and cameras! True Tone is growing on me everyday as well!

Thank you for making my point, even though you may not realize it.
iPhones and androids have largely the same touchscreen technology. Physical contact is needed for both. There are exceptions like Kyocera’s offerings and some other rugged devices.

If I’m wrong please site your source

My source is me. Read my post again. Four (4) butt dials while sitting in a belt holster, untouched. I agree it shouldn't have been able to happen. But it did. Because it did something it should not have been able to do, I returned it. End. Of. Story.

I didn't make your point. Your phone can't be butt dialing period without it touching skin. In a holster it can't do that.
But it did. Four (4), count em, times.

Ok. I admit I didn’t read the entire post history and didn’t know the full context of he conversation. That being said, the screen must have come in contact with something that acted as a stylus. The strangest part is if you had it in a holster how did the home button get pressed to unlock the device (assuming you don’t have a passcode) and then it opened the phone each time.

Why did this thread turn into a bickering session? This is about iPhone 8 and 8 + owners opinions on the phones...nothing more. Jeez...
[doublepost=1515111403][/doublepost]
That's an iOS issue. It distorts on my iPhone 6 Plus too when it never used to prior to iOS 11. Bug reports have been filed.
Hope you are right about that!

All great questions, and no answers. And that is why it got returned. AND, I did have a passcode set which just complicated the issue.

Well, I just tested it on my iPhone 8 plus, and S7 edge. Both wouldn't respond by anything other than skin contact. So butt dialing isn't possible unless its touching your skin. Clothes won't work.

Because he didn't turn the screen off before putting it in the holster. I've seen many people do that and my old boss with that BlackBerry Android phone did that often and it did call me by accident when he didn't know it. Different screen tech responds differently. But in all the years the iPhone has been out, it has never happened to me with any iPhone.

I sure do love how you know exactly how I put my iphone away and exactly how I messed up, especially since you weren't there. Your experience is yours. OBTW, I did have an iPhone butt dial many years ago so my experience is that it has happened to other iPhones, and I'm not the only one.
Enough of this, I know what happened, you don't have to believe and I don't have to prove it to you.
Happy New Year.

Agreed! Once Apple (hopefully) puts out a software update that fixes the crackling speakers, the iPhone 8 Plus is the perfect iPhone IMO...last best iPhone with a home button!

You're having the crackling issues too? Do we know if a software update will fix it, or is this a hardware issue that warrants a trip back to the Apple Store?

Apparently it’s an issue with almost all 8/8+s so makes me think it is an IOS 11 software issue? Not sure...

I haven't been able to reproduce this except with one app (Sudoku ME). What apps are you experiencing the crackling with.

It’s most noticeable for me when I’m playing music in the background and typing on my phone. Try that...

Also, when I record video on Snapchat, if I speak loudly the speaker will crackle.
