This is disconcerting! Do you have it set up through a hub or have other peripherals or software that could be throwing a wrench into things?

Nope. Plugged in directly to the Mac Studio via the Thunderbolt cable it came with. Nothing else plugged in, no other peripherals except a keyboard and mouse which are both wireless.

Welp, I've had my Apple Studio Display for about a month now... and honestly, it kind of sucks. At least as far as the webcam / microphone go.

Literally half the times I have joined a Zoom call or Google meet over the past month, my audio and video is simply unusable. Choppy, frozen, etc. I've had to restart the monitor multiple times to get it to work. Today that didn't even help, so I ended up jumping on my 2015 5k iMac to take my meeting.

It's straight up embarrassing. And unacceptable for a $1500+ piece of equipment. And of course I am outside the return window... very frustrating!
Yeah, I don't like them going in the direction of turning their monitors into mini-computers with fancy camera/speaker/microphone, particularly since I run three displays which, if I got three ASD's, would leave me paying for unneeded redundant features. Dell offers some of its monitors with no-camera/speaker options for a reduced cost. Would be nice to see that in the ASD as well. The XDR is purely monitor only, but it's in a category of its own.

Try turning off Center Stage — that helps some. If you are in macOS Sonoma, you can manually control some of the camera settings, which helps further.

The way I explain the problem to people is the camera thinks it’s still inside an iPad. It hasn’t bothered me for a long time, but yeah, it’s hard to see how that came about — I can see how “let’s see what happens when we put this iPad camera into that display” could happen, but I can’t see how anyone could then test it and not realize they are a poor match.

Has it always been like this? (You say it is a month old, but that you are outside the return window... but you still have a guarantee).
Have you tried connecting another Mac to it?

Mine works flawlessly.

It becomes quite difficult processing my photos on my 2013 macbook pro so I need to upgrade and I m just waiting for a new imac to be released. The current model was a bit of a disappointment so I hope that next year a 32 inch one will be released. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
