A EQ needs to happen. They can have them default to Apples recommendations but having this option available would be awesome and available on cans that are a fraction of the cost.
Or you can try adjusting the sound via Accessibility<Audio/Visual<Headphone Accommodations. It's easy to toggle it on/off to compare.

(I use a custom audiogram and for me the sound is splendid.)

It’s not granular enough. Plus you have no idea what frequency bands are being amplified or suppressed. Really weird now Apple has this aversion to providing EQ on audio equipment
To me it’s like a TV manufacturer not allowing you to change picture settings at all. Would be ludicrous

Apple doesn’t really allow you to adjust display settings either. They are calibrated in factory. ?

Yes, very much so. I think from Apple's perspective, they feel like this issue is already addressed via the Music app's EQ controls as well as the APM and APP "automatic" EQ, but those are not good enough, for numerous reasons... for me, the two biggest are that on iOS only presets are available (can't be tweaked), and secondly, I switch between APP, APM, and external speakers, with an iPhone, iPad, and MBP, and the same adjustments I might want to apply to the APP wouldn't necessarily be wanted on the APM.

Anyone still having trouble updating? Mine finally updated yesterday. Haven't listened enough to discern a difference, but I'll put them through their paces this weekend.

what concerns me is the people reporting nerf to sub-bass. I haven't had time to listen during the work week but i'll try later today to see if it updates.

Mine are still not updated. I’ve used them as usual, which means no bra. I’m travelling next week, so I’ll have to use the bra, maybe they’ll update then.

Theres really no rhyme or reason for the update. Mine updated out of the bra while charging, phone right next to it on cellular.

I’m not seeing any battery-related improvements after the update. 2 days later and I’m seeing the exact same 10% drop overnight while in the case.

Yea I’m not too bothered really, it’ll happen eventually. I only have the drain issue, sometimes, but it’s not a major issue now since I’m using the Max’s a lot, so they’re on the charger over night anyway.

So I have constanty reported amazing battery life. Since the new firmware upgrade, I charged them up yesterday and they have dropped 12 percent in 16 hours. I’ve done a factory reset and removed automatic connection to my phone and iPad so basically I have gone back to how I had them oreviousky configured. I shall monitor closely

I’ve noticed a bit of a difference in the higher end staying amplified through cancellation. I couldn’t hear the sink running before, or my fan in my room, or the ac whirl, now I can hear the higher pitches even over half volume. I can also hear a slight white noise when it’s quiet.

Kinda sucks. I enjoyed cancelling these things out and it made a bit of a difference over the XM4s. Now they’re on par IMO. Which is fine, but the NC was better out of the box and now they’re not.

Don't know why people think the sound quality has changed since the update. They sound exactly the same to me. I highly Apple would change the SQ, why would they?

Finally got mine to update by plugging it in without putting it in the bra case, with the iPhone near it. Initial testing impression: the bass is much stronger. The noise cancellation is also stronger.

Damn, noise cancellation got less strong for me.

I think they’ve changed the sound profile a bit. Seems more detailed somehow, and bass seems a bit stronger. Might be placebo. ANC is the same for me = still the best.

I totally agree that Apple should give more control over the EQ, For £549 it's a bit of a joke it's not been factored in! They should probably pop that in the AirPods settings.

Just incase anyone has this turned on through very recent experience having just got my APM's today I'd say if you have any EQ settings applied through the Music settings turn them off! I was about to send these right back until I turned that off, those settings have been in there since day one with no update and they seem to conflict with the APM, as soon as I turned that off the sound quality dramatically increased!

Well it looks as if this firmware grade has killed my APM’s. I’m losing 1.5% an hour on standby in the case -
Edit- I am a picnic (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer).... this must be down to me as I don’t think I factory reset properly. Recharged to hundred percent and 12 hours later still on 100%

Even if you did got it replaced, it's a possibility that it could do the same thing? Also I don't think you can block a firmware can you?
