Quite true. I found the back button behaviour on my Note 2 more predictable than what iOS 7 back motions have been so far (I'm back on my 4S since three months).

The back button is one of the things I miss the most since going back to iPhone. Funny how I do more uncomfortable stretches to go back in iOS apps with my 3,5" iPhone than I ever did with the 5,5" Note 2...

With that said though, I do agree that the Android back button isn't quite what it should be. Still wishing they'd make the three on screen buttons (or tactile hardware buttons) into a gesture/tactile strip. Swipe left for back, right for forward (+ add other gestures, multitouch, long press etc. for extended functionality).

This creates a headache though when you're in an app/game that requires a lot of swiping. Imagine getting your fruit ninja on and every time you're about to chop up that pineapple in the left corner, it backs you out of the game. Turning the gesture controls on and off per app will become a nuisance.

No. I had a Samsung S3 and although it worked great it was just too small so I ended up getting a Note 2. The Note 2 still isn't big enough for a smart phone so my next phone will have at least a six inch screen. I know some people will think I am crazy for saying that but I use the internet more than anything on my phone outside of the house and I really want a bigger screen.

I get where you're coming from. Just like myself, I hardly ever make calls or use my phone in the normal sense so I like my screen size to be big for web browsing, media consumption and all the work related tasks I need to accomplish. Nothing beats having a portable, phablet sized device IMO.

How is that different from accidentally hitting the on screen back button as it is right now though, in the same situation?

I think most companies including Apple and Samsung shouldn't focus solely on screen size or resolution. I think 720p is more than enough for a smartphone. Now Samsung plans to bring a 2k screen and those 720p videos will start to show more grain and pixelation as the video will get magnified. And honestly, whether 4-6 inches, what is the difference? Those 1080p are already more resource hungry and the videos in that resolution is just far too big. A 720p res at 4.5-4.7 inches is the sweet spot for me.

Since the term "selfie" has become more of a mainstream term the last couple years, I say Apple should focus on improving their front-facing camera and not just on its rear. Huawei introduced a 5MP front cam with the Ascend P6 last summer. Oppo introduced the swivel on the N1. A local brand called Starmobile here in the Philippines has not only an 18MP on the rear, but an 8MP with autofocus on the front. Takes great pix from both sides. Apple with its 1MP front cam is a bit of a joke now. Even the HTC One's 2MP front cam is a bit behind the times now and that ironically can take better pix than the 4MP rear sometimes because it doesn't produce that purple haze effect.

I really don't get how there aren't different sized iPhones at this point. I would more than likely switch back if they put out a 4.7 or 5 inch iPhone. I use a macbook, I this iOS flourishes on an iPad which I also use... it would be nice to go back to iPhone and have everything in harmony again.

I'd also like to see the iPhone finally get NFC and a couple other little things but I have learned not to hold my breath.

Looks like Apple is going 4.8 inches. It might be late but it is a good move. Good balance. Helps with watching videos and browsing. But I will miss SwiftKey and the freedom of Android that I don't think I see myself of going back. And as long as Apple never gives me mass storage or Bluetooth transfer and I will be stuck using iTunes, I just can't see myself ever really coming back.

This upgrade in screen should still keep my parents with iOS as their eyes have gotten weaker. If I did have an urge for an iPhone, I'd wait for the iPhone 6s anyway. Same design but better internals. I prefer not buying the weaker twin.

I just hope they also keep the current size.

Ditto. While I'm intrigued by the idea of a larger iPhone (and what the design would look like), I'm still very much a pro-4" iPhone person.

Or at the very least, a pro-overall iPhone footprint person. If they manage to increase the screen size with minimal overall device-size increase, that would be ideal.

I'd be shocked if they don't. I'm confident we'll see a 4" and 4.7"/4.8" iPhone this fall. Only question remains if Apple will ever release a phablet. Personally I think they should offer 3 iPhone's at some point. 4", 4.7"/4.8", and 5.5". There is a strong market for all 3 sizes.

I've also used phones of these 3 sizes in the past 12 months. Very different experience for all 3. All have pros and cons. Personally I find the 4.7"/4.8" screen to be ideal for me.

The phablet size would need to have additional features though like the S-pen on the Note 3 to make it worthwhile. Not sure where Apple could go to make that happen. Will be interesting to see. I'm a fan of additional iPhone sizes so long as they continue to offer flagship specs in the 4" device.

5" + and yes I likely would be happy to use an iPhone again as my principal phone, but anything less than 5" would be likely too small for me now I have grown accustomed to the Note 3.

Though I still think I'm more likely to buy a Lumia 1020 successor this year coming than an iPhone 6

Yep. Agreed - but again I hope they support a stylus but won't hold my breath.

Honestly I don't think it has to have the stylus. The fact that an iPhone of that size is available will be reason enough for some to purchase.

It's funny, a few minutes after my post Mac Rumors shares the WSJ story about 2 larger sized iPhone's coming in the fall. Perhaps Apple really is going to release the 4.8" and 5.5" models this fall. Like I said before, a 3 iPhone lineup with 4", 4.8", and 5.5" offerings makes all the sense in the world to me.

I didn't mean it had to be a stylus - but some type of feature/software to differentiate and make the screen size worthwhile on a smartphone.

I suppose the same can be said for the iPad though to a certain degree too...

Anyway - should be interesting this year.

Agreed here as well. I by all means hope Apple does release a 4.7"-5" model to accommodate those seeking something comparable to the flagship offerings of other manufacturers. Over time though, based on how I find myself using my devices, I come to realize I really like the smaller footprint for my phone. By simply reducing bezels alone, they could probably squeeze another 0.2-0.3" out of the current design--just find I don't want to go any bigger considering I run, exercise, and cycle with my iPhone so smaller works better.

Is screen size really that big of an issue?

It's not going to be the deciding factor in what phone I choose next.

As I grow older, I find that I'm interested in what the phone is actually capable of. Watching a movie on a 4 inch, 5 inch or 6 inch screen will still suck balls, and if I can use a 4 inch screen easily enough, I don't see what the big benefit is.

Battery life and device ruggedness are key concerns of mine, and when a new version of iOS or Android comes out, I look for features that will actually impact me, rather than conducting a silly point scoring exercise.

Have you ever watched a film on a 5' screen? I find that there is a hell of a difference, YMMV. I find web surfing on a 4" screen impossible, a 5" screen is great. The screen is a big deciding factor for many.

I find that those that don't like a larger screen have never used one for any length of time. Mind, there are always those that have borrowed their friends large screen phone to be able to give an experienced opinion. Lots of those people about. Perhaps you're one:rolleyes:

For web and email use, yes I enjoy the larger screen. I don't know why everyone only talks about watching movies :p

Great for providing remote support via teamviewer and the like too
