i couldnt find who posted on the Oscar Ad thread, but he/she mentioned that at 4 seconds of the add. there was something visible at the top of the bezel. i went to see for myself, and sure enough there is what looks to be a very small dot. (what could that be?) i am very intrigued. What would be the reaction to apple if they disclose some information. I can see this happening. Apple being apple is full of surprises, and this is actually something that would work because it would give more publicity to iPad and Apple.

I have a feeling that the ipad has a camera. Now if it does not have one i won't be upset but did they say it was not going to have one or we just think that it does not have one.

Anything is possible, but the iPad that was demoed by SJ at the event and the iPads that were demoed after the presentation for the media did not have cameras.

good god, how much more publicity can Apple receive??? they milk the media for all it's worth already....

true but it did not have the compass or the voice memos maybe the camera was not ready for the keynote.

maybe maybe maybe

It was also missing the jetpack attachment.

Missing hardware is quite different than missing software.

I think it will have a web cam. How would you explain the stuff people found in the sdk?

The ambient light sensors in the iPhone and iPods can't be seen. And if they are they're the little red dots aren't they when you put it so where it gets ultimate sunlight. I wouldn't mind one bit if it didn't come with a camera. But it's apple and you never know what they can come up with

I can see the ambient light sensor on my iPhone 3GS.

Now the thing is will it do video

Well I can't see it in plain normal lighting. Idk it can be anything. Try and see if you can see the ambient sensors on an iPhone commercial from the apple website in large format. If u can see it tell me and I'll change my mind. Maybe

i see it at around 7-9 seconds. either apple is the biggest tease in the world, or theres a camera in them there ipads.

Apple is rarely ever full of "surprises." They may not announce products early in their development, but when announcements/statements/invitations are made they are fairly straightforward. For instance, the last invitation referred to the "latest creation." What was announced, their latest creation - not creations - no macbook pros, no new iPhone, no iPhone OS 4.0, etc.

Every apple product that has a camera has had its function announced from the get-go. On the first two iterations of iPhone people said that surely it has to do video and at some point Apple will just "unlock" that capability. Did that happen? Absolutely not.

Don't you think that if Apple intended it to have a camera, under features there would be some big section beating people over the head with "built-in camera for iChat"?

I just want to reiterate my claim that Apple does not do surprises. Everything after an announcement seems pretty self-evident and Apple definitely doesn't alter the carefully created identity of a device in a fundamental way between announcement and launch.

Fair enough. The truth is I would like apple to do something that hasn't been done before. It'll be like a massive prank! As unlikely as this might be. I could only hope apple does something so boss as this. Just imagine. April 3rd 2010 u walk out with ure ipad. And just as u walk out. (Sylvester stalone has been hired just to say this line) "oh and by the way. Your iPad has a camera". And he turns around and helps the next guest. Just imagine that ahahahaha!!

who said it was a suprise? If anything apple plans to put out some kinda camera add on. no way would they not add a camera but have 3g and gps

I can think of about a hundred things that they didn't say it didn't have. Companies do not usually make a habit of listing all of the features not present in their products.

Everyone needs to get it through their heads that iPad 1.0 will not have a camera.

It doesnt have a camera.

Apple have never mentioned a camera, they havent shown it with a camera, they havent shown any apps that would need a camera, it doesnt have a camera.

And yet, your the person on launch day who will be moaning that your wishes never came true.

Apple: "Here is your new iPad" :)

You: "But wheres the camera?!?"

Apple: "it doesnt have a camera, and we never said that it did."

You: "But that little tiny flash in the ad where it looked like there might be a camera.... you got my hopes up."

Apple: "Go home"
