It a sensor, do you really think Apple would make such a drastic change after posted the official product pictures and info?? THINK :apple:

Just to add fuel to this conspiracy theory, powerbookmedic.com received what it claims as pictures of the final version of the midframe (http://www.powerbookmedic.com/wordp...ipad-parts-photos-still-support-camera-theory) which still shows holes for a webcam, what is interesting is that these holes remained from the prototype to the final version. I believe at some point Apple was strongly considering a camera, I am still skeptical of it being in the final product.

Also According to to MacDailyNews Apple changing specs after showing an iPhone OS device just before shipping is not without precedent: On Monday, June 18, 2007, eleven days before the first iPhone began shipping, Apple announced that they had significantly upgraded iPhone's battery life and its multi-touch screen to optical-quality glass. So I guess the same thing could go for the iPad?

A couple of problems with this theory/conspiracy is that firstly the 'camera' can't be seen in other front on shots, although this could of course be due to lighting but so could the dot itself. Secondly, I don't think Apple is foolish enough to shoot an advert using an iPad containing a feature that a lot of people clearly care about which they weren't going to include. They would have at least edited it out if they had. Then again it could just be this damn camera! :)

Oh you mean like a video showing the ipad looking at a website with flash, showing the flash content has loaded? :)

I think there is a lot of wishful thinking going on here.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me whether the iPad has a camera or not, but I realise that it is obviously something a lot of people badly want. Since this implies a camera would be a big selling feature, I find it next to impossible to believe that Apple would be holding out for a last moment "wait! it's also got a camera!" announcement. Playing silly games like that is only going to annoy potential customers.

I am sure there are plenty of other features which are not mentioned in the information released so far, but they are more likely to be smaller things, not a big item like a camera.

There's obviously some reason it's not there now (perhaps because they are trying to keep down the price), but it may come along at a later date.

Yes. It does have a camera. It's not for you to use. It's for Apple to spy on you and see how delighted you are with your iPad. If your facial expression shows sufficient delight, the camera feature will be unlocked. If not...

On further analysis

Ok, I took the original footage, overlayed frames, used some fractal enhancement, spectral de-fragmentation analysis, and ran this through a proprietary image-optimizer algorithm.

The high z-value center pixels show asymmetrical refraction, meaning this could be a quartzite element, or the outer layer of some other optical sensing device. The three darker instances are in a symmetric and regular pattern, which suggests some intentional intelligent design choice. Notice the even spacing, and how each dark element is mated with a corresponding mid-tone element radiating from the center. One troubling aspect is the slightly darker point at the lower right of the center. This cannot be accounted for at this time.

Given the pixelation of this instance and the nature of the smooth silica substrate, it is most likely this abnormality is caused by a desultory sublingual excretion, serendipitously timed to correspond with the recording of the event.

how long did it take to come up with this ahaha?? kudos

Here is a slightly more zoomed out, less blurry attempt:

Haha it's quite hard to see but if you really wish it to be there you can almost make out a pretty amazing camera (HD maybe?).

Spitting image for a Nikon Rebel if you ask me.
