Heck when I'm paying £1500 for a laptop, I'd expect it to be perfect.

I can get a Dell for £400 which comes as advertised (as far as hardware goes) with no faults or 'issues' out of the box, and yet you can't get a machine costing over three times that much which has wonkey keys/imperfect screen. I'm paying that extra money for a good reason, not just to get a metal case and OS X.

I don't blame the OP at all for being upset. In the past 6 weeks I have purchased both a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro. Both have been perfect, but I would certainly be less than pleased had I been forced to return one or both of them 4 times.

A quick Google search found this article: http://news.com.com/PC+users+cant+get+no+satisfaction/2100-1041_3-6105569.html

It is almost a year old, but confirms what I think has generally been true over the years: customer satisfaction ratings for personal computers overall are low, but Apple leads the pack:

One year is a huge difference, and last year apple was definitely still top notch at quality.

But this year it has dropped significantly, and it's a shame. :(

I've just arranged a return for my 4th MBP, which I received today. The original one (pre SR) had a dodgy return key. Second one (SR LED) had constantly flickering screen (and misaligned return key). Third had severely yellow bottom left corner and wireless connection problems (and misaligned return key). The latest one I haven't even opened the lid on. It has a huge scuff mark on it that I cannot remove, and a lid that is raised off the keyboard 3mm more on the left than on the right. I'm slightly tempted to look at the screen on this latest one but I'm now so annoyed by these computers that I don't even want to get it out of the box again.

Apple's quality control is pathetic for these new MBPs. I have arranged for a refund. I've had several Apples before without problems and I expect I'll buy again if and when they sort out these issues, but if there was any way to get Apple's OS without Apple hardware I'd be doing that from now on.

Well - just to update anyone interested in my saga - I did get a refund, and I also emailed one Mr Jobs just to describe my experience... Two days later I got a call from Exec Relations Europe. They said they were responding to my email and wanted to sort things out. So they arranged for an upgraded 2.4 to be thoroughly checked out by engineers before being sent to me for the same price I paid for the 2.2.

It's just arrived. Lid perfect, return key perfect, and I only notice the very faintest yellowing on the lower left side, (and even then I'm not yet sure if I'm imagining it. It's certainly no issue in normal use. LG screen).

I'm writing this on wireless, using battery, and have had no problems at all yet here either. The machine came pre-loaded with 10.4.10 - so I assume the kernel panics stuff is now sorted as well.

So full marks to Apple in the end (touch wood).

Oooo! So glad you finally got things sorted :)

And the upgrade - nice!

*secretly jealous and wishing I'd contacted them about my previous 3 lemons too* :p
