UPDATE:
I'm back!!!

3 hours of standby & 30 mins of usage and I'm at 96%

Before 5.0.1 I would be at 70 - 75%

Glad to be back to my old iP4 battery life! Only been a day, but I'm hoping this fixes my issues for good.

post update i am currently at 86% battery life with only 36 min usage and 1hr 36 min of standby.

this would be worse then before the update. i actually was satisfied with my battery life prior to this. i see how it plays out today.

So I was experiencing battery issues like most people, and yesterday I updated to 5.0.1. My battery was at 100% last night before I went to sleep, and I keep the phone next to me on my bed because I use it as an alarm. At about 4 AM I wake up and my phone is HOT. I mean, really hot, I've never felt it so hot before. And the battery is at 25%. I did a hard reset and turned off Wi-FI and Locations services because I didn't want it to die so I could still use the alarm. But I've NEVER had anything like this happen before. Is iOS 5.0.1 crap, or was this just a fluke? My battery seems to be dying even faster than before.

Sounds like your battery shorted out. Not sure if the update would do that or not, or if was coincidental. I'd take it to an Apple store and see if they can fix it.

Worse. 57 minutes usage. That's a few texts and a 15 minute phone call. 3:37 standby. At 81%. I can still watch the % drop. Haven't calibrated yet and I did an OTA update. I may update and set up as new then restore from backup through Itunes.

19% with about an hour of use, and 3.5 hours standby? So about 5 hours use and 17.5 hours standby before reaching 0%?

Honestly, that sounds pretty reasonable to me...

That means I absolutely have to charge my phone every night. I used to be able to use my 4 for 2 days. If I'm not around a charger one night, I'm hosed. That is awful compared to my 4.

Doesn't set up as new and then restore from backup defeat the purpose of setting up as new phone?

I agree. The 4 was a big improvement over the 3GS for this reason.

I upgraded to 5.0.1 yesterday but did notice slightly worse batter life today. My 4s comes off the charger at 5:30am everyday. By the time I get into the office at 8:30am, it's usually at 85-90%. The usage is always just listening to music on my train commute. I use my iPad for all my browsing/apps/email.

Today my phone was 75% by 8:30. So that's 10% worse over a 3 hour period.

Much worse on my iPhone 4s and about the same on my iPad. Charged the iPhone to 100% before I went to bed last night and turned off everything in the multitasking tray. Battery was down to 76% when I got up 6 hours later; and usage showed more than 5 hours, standby was just a little more. The only thing that I have turned on in the notifications is phone, messages, CNN and calendar. Everything is turned off in location services except for Find my iPhone and Siri. My email is set to push and I had received 8 emails overnight. What the heck was my phone doing while I was asleep?

Pretty much identical for me. The phone is still doing something in the background that is draining the battery.

Doing a lot better. Was at 97% at 9AM.3.5hrs later I'm at 93%. I've been using it some. Just sitting idle it would drop more than that in the past, in that time period.

I have also seen a slight improvement.

Usually by 1pm I have around 40-48% left after being off the charger at 6am

Today at 1pm I had 61%. I will need a few business days to confirm but I do see a slight improvement
To be honest though its a bit early to tell.

No complaints here.

The problem with posting an image like that is that "Usage" and "Standby" can still vary immensely between different usage scenarios.

As you can see, at a glance my battery performance is far worse than yours, but then again I've been using Skype for almost 5 hours (although it wouldn't have been this bad in iOS 4)

better

My battery life was much better even before this update, I had turned off a lot of the location services services settings that didn't seem to be needed (and didn't affect phone function at all)

ONE of the things that this update DEFINITELY does is fix the gps bug that kept the the gps indicator (and most likely the gps) running even when programs were shut down, killed in the application list and it would still be present. I would have to go into location services, turn it OFF - which didn't remove the indicator and then turn ON again and then the indicator would finally go off.

Now, the indicator is off basically the minute one closes and app - like google maps, so HOPEFULLY, this means that it is actually reducing gps use when not IN use.

I have a 4S and from start, the battery life has been pretty great so far; no complaints here. Heavily using the phone throughout the day, I can easily go from 9am to 9pm (full day at a university with 7 hours of classes, etc.)

I just did the OTA update and, although this might be placebo, the phone stays in the upper 90s for a very long time, regardless of what I'm doing. Great battery life here.

I'm going to leave it off the charger all day today and report back when I get some accurate figures though.

OTA update went smoothly. Only took 1 minute to download and 10 minutes to install. Everything working nicely. Like the new feature for the iPad which added the multitasking gestures.

I'm going on 21 hours since my last full charge, and I'm at 20%. Way better than it was before. I should mention that my battery life prior to the update wasn't terrible either.
