Because i have the card already. Synchro is saying his non pro works in 10.14.4. You're saying it won't still, which is a bummer. Any pcie usb 3 gen 2 cards you can recommend
Im not saying it won´t work. Just that I don´t know. Tiger is an obsolete system. Anyway, I still have my old Fasta version 1 that I can send to you. It´s gen 1 , as you know. More than enough.

Okey so far any one who can sell me one of your multiple

Good luck. I could get two of them. They are rare now, even in the second hand market. You can look also for the Pro model.

I have my Caldigit FASTA-6GU3 Plus (Caldigit 85353 rev. 1.0 is printed on the card, ID is pci2646,10) working under 10.4.6 in slot three of a CMP 4,1 upgraded to 5,1 with latest firmware 144.0.0.0.0, SMC version 1.39f5. Was non-functional for awhile in High Sierra.

10.14.6 you mean?

Anyone with a Caldigit FASTA-6GU3 PCB CAL-85351CB VER:1.0 having any type of problems? Using it with Mojave/Catalina/Big Sur?

I'm asking because I found a seller with two identical cards of the model above with a very reasonably price. I urgently need a card without external power and this one, even being so old, seems that will work fine for what I need.

I had one years ago and it entirely stopped working. Timing coincidentally was around an OS update (think 10.11), but do not believe they were tied to each other. Some other CalDigit cards 100% stopped working after OS update. I never replaced with another eSATA combo card in MP5,1.

I bought it, C$ 59,90 with shipping to BR included for both cards was a too good offer to pass, after I read that @Synchro3 has a non plus/non pro working if I understood correctly, let's hope it's the same one.

Even if it's not working with recent macOS releases, I really hope that is not the case, I can probably still use the cards with PCs, so no real monetary loss here.

I have the Pro and the Ultra. Previously, I had that one, but had to switch cause it din´t work when updated the macOS. Don´t remeber now it was with Mojave. Simply, didn´t recognize the card. I think it was the ESATA part that failed to recognize.

Thx!

This is worrisome, but I can use the cards on my office PCs, so no monetary loss here. Anyway, I'm going to check and investigate the problem when the cards finally arrive.

Happy to help. I have just found the old car in a box. So if you need me to test something just tell me. Or a third card, and I can send it to you.

It's exactly the same one that I bought a pair. Thx for the offer, maybe I'll take it down the road! ;)

I'm genuinely interested in taking a look on the SPI dump of the same PCB version (U16 8-pin SOJ chip??), but with the internal SATA connections populated. Unfortunately this CAldigit card is one that have several PCB revisions, most with little tweaks here and there but sometimes major components are upgraded, so this will take time to find.

I have the FASTA-6GU3 Pro in my 5,1 on Mohave, and it also boots my Windows 10 CSM installation from SATA m.2 drives using a BCD helper drive in Bay #2. I purchased a non-pro as well, but never tried it as I had reserved it for a 10.6 machine only and it is currently stored away. I'm curious if it does work with 10.12+.

The issue IIRC is the non-pro cards use the Renesas [NEC] USB 3.0 controller which does not work in 10.10/10.11 and the pros use the Fresco Logic USB 3.0 controller (described in other threads here on USB 3.0 controllers). Both cards use different PLX PCIe bridge chips, which may also affect operation as noted with other switched cards. I am using the Pro in Slot-2.

I also notice that sellers sometimes confuse the two when they come up, and have seen non-pro cards selling for more than pros. The pro I bought was not labeled as one, so always check for pictures.

I had also taken information from Win-Raid forums to flash the pro's Marvell SATA controller to a newer version. I can not definitely say if that caused or solved any issues and do not recommend it due to easy risk of bricking the card. There was discussion on those forums for optimizing their cheap SATA controller cards or onboard motherboard SATA for their Windows installations, as the different versions contain different CSM or UEFI OROMS.

I flashed it at the time because of drive disconnects and Windows failing to run, but I still think there may have been cable related issues as I had the SATA drives in the optical drive bay and routed a 1M SATA cable through the case to the card. This was compounded by Microsoft's signing servers also going down around that time.

This is the Pro version. It works like a charm in Mojave and Catalina. If you need me to dismount it to take pictures, or any other test just let me know.

Just a follow up. I have been using an OWC card for SSD support and also have an NVME drive. I am down to one FASTA card. What has become apparent is that the enumeration is an Apple issue, if you have a lot of drives on the system. It seems to have been introduced with one of the FW changes over the last few years, perhaps while adding NVME support (just speculating.) Any of the drives including the main sleds on the Intel controller can get lost.
I have found that 7-8 devices are the limit for reliable boot enumeration. There seems to be a cache. If you lose one, disconnect all drives, do an PRAM and SMC reset, and slowly add drives starting with the 4 bays going step by step rebooting after adding one.
It's been stable for me all the way through Big Sur now. But given Apple Silicon performance, I am not sure how long I will keep pushing this old horse.

I have 6 internal drives attached to the Mac Pro. An 2 external via the FASTA. Never had a problem.

That was my experience. But working again in 10.14.6 and I have a second machine with it working on 10.13.6 now. I had it working on 10.11 as well. My guess is the trouble OS is 10.12 and perhaps some versions of 10.13.

I'm just resurrecting this thread after 2,5 years because I've recently stumbled across it since I was looking for a replacement for my TSATA6-PRO-E2 card which was giving me weird problems in my Mac Pro 3,1. On eBay I have found the same exact card that @******* is/was selling, i.e. a CALDIGIT cal-85351cb aka FASTA-6GU3 (not the plus or pro version). I was wondering whether or not that particular card is compatible with newer macOS versions and after reading this thread I was unsure. I am happy to report that the card does indeed work with OS X later than Mavericks like the latest Mojave (will test more recent macOS later) even though the CalDigit website states otherwise. It states:

Mac Driver does NOT support 10.10 and 10.11. If you have these OSX versions installed, please upgrade your card to FASTA-6GU3 Pro.

Upon installing the card in my Mac Pro 3,1, the only part of the card that was recognized were the SATA Ports. System Profiler indicated that the card does feature a USB controller but that there were no drivers installed. I did some googling and I found a driver package for a USB 3.0 ExpressCard that supposedly uses the same Chipset (NEC/Renesas). After installing the package according to its instructions, I had both USB and SATA working. Speed for USB3 and SATA is around 3 Gbit/s which seems about right given the fact that I installed it in Slot 3 of the Mac Pro. I now have a fully functioning Caldigit USB & SATA combo card on Mojave! I'm actually surprised that it works that well considering the mixed information about the card that is floating around. Just wanted to share this for anyone that might have the same question or same problem with their CalDigit card. Attached you can find a picture of the card I'm using in my Mac Pro and the driver package I've found online. I also attached a screenshot of System Profiler so you can see how the card is recognized in macOS.

Edit: I don't know why the card apparently also has some sort of IDE controller on it? (entry in System Profiler) Either way, the card is functional.

Did you tried entering sleep? The main issue that plagued this card with newer macOS releases is that the USB controller stops working after waking from sleep.

I haven't but I will the next time I'm on the machine. If I recall correctly Mac Pros do have problems with sleeping with many USB3 cards (I had previously installed an Inateck USB3 card with Fresco Logic chipset and the Mac Pro just wouldn't sleep anymore). Do you by any chance know why System Profiler reports an IDE controller?

With the Renesas USB controller, is a irritating issue, since you have to reboot after waking from sleep to have USB working again with a MacPro5,1.

Do you by any chance know why System Profiler reports an IDE controller?

AFAIK the Marvell SATA controller also have a IDE port besides the AHCI one for compatibility purposes.

If I remember correctly some driver versions hide it from System Information.

Nice!

I have FASTA Plus, the one with USB 3.1 and works like a charm in 5,1 Monterey. I also have on Plus more and two Pro´s, just for when fails. I use it a lot.

By the way, I recall you SATA ports are bootable. And now with Opencore, also are the USB ports, if you preload Opencore before.

I'm continuing this thread as I have bought a CalDigit FASTA 6GU3 Pro (it says CAL 85353 Rev. 1.0 on the back).

Does anyone know if this card allows booting into macOS (ideally Monterey or Mojave) on a cMP3,1 via the eSATA ports?

I'd like to add either a 2-bay OWC Mercury Elite Pro or a 4-bay IcyBox or Fantec.

cheers
Philip
