I also noticed that on the 5 doesnt have a yellow tint on the bottom of the screen. On the 7 screen it had a yellow tint towards the bottom compared to the top but the 5 screen is all around same color and very nice =) Also the sound seems louder playing on the 5 and build quality is better too.

Screen viewing angle

I posted on another thread with a similar question, but I felt the need to post here directly because of the discussion and photo comparisons posted by NoSpleen.

As noted, when the side by side positions are swapped, the comparison looks very different. To me, the 5 series seem to show less variation in brightness/contrast then the 7 series in the photos when the positions were swapped. For those who have done the comparison between series 5 and 7, does the lighting appear to be more evenly distributed on the 5 or the 7?

I have a 7 series, and the lighting appears to be unevenly distributed (lighter on the right and darker on the left when held in portrait). It is pronounced enough that the lighting viewed by my left and my right eye is slightly different at a half arms length distance (normal viewing distance). When viewing it with just one eye at a time, I notice the viewing angle is very narrow, as very tiny tilts will cause the lighting to shift noticeably. Is that common for the 7 series? Is it less of an issue on the 5?

I'm not too concerned with the polkadots (I can see them but only at max brightness in a dark room) and I don't have a perference of more or less contrast/brightness. I'm more interested to know if this uneven lighting is common for either series as currently it is significant enough to make me dizzy when viewing the screen for any amount of time.

As a general comment, thank you all to those who took the time and effort to perform the detail comparisons and posted the photos. It definitely saves those like me with OCD hours that we would've spent in an apple store looking at the floor models and getting weird stares from the employees.

I remember the 7 screen being bright but then after I received the 5 I can tell that the 5 is alot brighter. Also I remember the 7 screen having that pop people have been talking about but the colors on the 5 screen looks better and more accurate and it has its own kind of pop to it and doesnt look washed out at all. I watched a video I converted into it and it looks amazing major eye candy look, my eyes drooled watching a movie =D. As for the white polka dot thing I havnt had any of that on my first 7 screen or my current 5 screen.

I beginning to think this entire thread (and this one too) needs to be deleted. There have been quite a few people who were completely happy with their phone visit this thread and then freak out about something they didnt notice before.

If you didnt have a problem with the screen before reading this thread, you still dont have a problem.

I have a phone with a 7 series screen, and it has the dots. But under my normal conditions of use, ---which dont include full brightness, one inch from my face at a 30 degree angle, in a room devoid of all other light,--- the dots cant be seen. If they can bee seen during normal use,and you dont have to hunt for them, then yes its a problem. Otherwise I suggest all of the 7 series owners sit back, relax, and revel in the fact that your screen has richer backs, and more saturation than the 5 series screens.

Damn ....

Censorship to calm the masses and keep a defect secret. Are you joking?

Aww poopy....just got a new iphone....went from a 5 to a 7 series and i can see the grid on the home screen now...the guy was reluctant to give me a new phone because of a few dead pixels, i doubt he'd give me a new one because of a grid on the home screen :(

I have the grid. I'm over it, though. I have the brightness on half/auto all the time anyway can't see it unless I shove the phone in my face. :D

I tried the field test mode on the iPhone and it won't show me what LCD number I have. I'm on Firmware 2.0. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a different way to see the LCD panel number?

This thread is OLD, and judging from your sig you have a 3GS.

You can see your version by going to Settings -> General -> About. It's listed there.

But since this thread is so old, I'm not even sure the same rules apply....5 > 7, etc....

Edit: Nevermind...you're getting a 3GS in September....premature sig. My bad.
