Diablo III :

I think it's CTRL-R to show the framerate on screen in Blizzard games?

Also, could you install the OS X client for D3 for comparison? (You don't have to buy it again, just download it off of battle.net.)

I can view Framerate on Diablo, but not all games has this option. So I've installed Faps to see all FPS in any games.

I also installed Diablo III on my Mac. I have the same FPS with the same settings ;)

No OpenGL penalty? Impressive.

It is, I actually just tested the game again in OSX ; ) This time I left the background FPS at default and just turned up the foreground FPS to 200 and changed the shadows to medium (I had posted my results with high shadows and background fps at 200 before), V-Sync off. I was getting over 100 in the dungeon, and 80s in town. When I turned on V-Sync, I got constant 60 FPS.

Official benchmarks for the 680MX are starting to be posted on notebookcheck.net. From what they have so far:
~60% faster than the 675MX
~10% faster than the 680M
Between ~10% faster and ~25% slower than the desktop GTX 660 Ti, but this varies wildly by benchmark -- there are cases where the 680MX outperforms the 660 Ti.

I detect a sense of satisfaction in that Mr 42?! (as am I, having changed my order about a week ago to i5/680MX from i7/675MX after I was reassured it would lose me 24 hours in the queue max)

Ha.. I'm a little disappointed in the comparison to the 660 Ti; I was hoping for closer to even parity. But the 660 Ti is a damn good card and probably too much to aim for in 2012.

The difference from the 675MX I found astounding, though. If you're the kind of person who doesn't mind spending $150 for once-in-a-while enjoyment, the 680MX does appear to be a phenomenal upgrade.

How could you change your order? Is it even possible after confirmation?

I ordered late on 3rd Dec. was given delivery dates 2-7 Jan. around a week ago it changed to non-specific "January". Called apple to see why mine slipped and they couldn't tell me - may have been the taking money off my card? But was told (when I asked) that there would be no further delay if I changed the order that day. Which I did. Shipping still estimated "January". Who knows if I slipped. But at least now I am getting the machine that most meets my needs. With Education discount the 680MX was a £100 odd upgrade for me and seemed well worth it even though I am not a fanatical gamer

This could very well be due to the beta drivers. They haven't been updated in some time and are nothing but a husk of what they should be for such a unique card.

All in all though I'm actually a bit underwhelmed no matter the case.

60% faster than the 675MX? It's even more so amazing then, that Apple offers the upgrade to 680MX for only $150. I'm really glad I waited for the new iMac, it's my first Mac and I almost settled for the 2011 after they weren't announced in the summer. Could you please post a link to those results, I checked the website and couldn't find any benchmarks for the 680MX?

The graphics look great and thanks for all the videos, but is there a stuttering in actual gameplay or is that just the video not streaming properly?

Well have a look at some preliminary tests done in the sibling 675mx thread. So far only the basics (heaven,Luxmark,geeks3d) and under macos, but the difference from 680mx seems minimal. I think we should investigate this...

The results as posted by forgottenwallet

iMac Specs:
Processor: 3.2 GHz i5
Memory: 8GB
GPU: 675MX 1GB

Heaven
FPS: 37.2
Scores: 937
Min FPS: 20.5
Max FPS: 90.1

Luxmark (Sala, default, GPU only)
Samples/sec: 745K

Geeks3D GpuTest
FurMark
Score: 1944 points (FPS: 32)
GiMark
Score: 3326 points (FPS: 55)

Heaven under OSX is near identical to the results on the 680MX, FurMark's 32 FPS is exactly what I got, if I remember right. Interesting ; ) Is there a chance that with the 675MX, Heaven defaults to different settings than with the 680MX?

Has anyone gotten to try Day Z, Planetside 2, Dark Souls or Borderlands 2 yet?

Just for people to quickly compare the 2012 iMac 680MX with the 2011 iMac AMD 6970 GPU:-

Just a note on the temperatures and the fan. Im getting temperatures up to around 90-95°C and the fan speeds up to around 2200RPM max, and you can definately hear it, however it's a type of "swooshing" fan sound and well... it's not "pleasant" per say, but it's not unpleasant either.
