Heh I cant wait until after the 7" version is released. Ask the same question then :)

I have my iPhone 4 and my iPad. I have no need for a 7" screen...which, to me, at the very least, looks awkward to hold (based on the video of the Samsung Galaxy)...

The beauty in the iPad, amongst other things, that it takes the place of a Netbook plus so much more. If I want something smaller at any given time, I have my iPhone...

I don't think a 7in iPad would make it anymore portable.

If I wanted something to fit in my pocket i would get the iPod...

Also I don't see myself taking a 7in tablet out and snapping quick photos in public lol...

It would be much more portable for me as it would fit in my purse no problem. The iPod is too small to feel fully useful and the iPad is too large to feel fully portable. Also I can't get a 3G iPod and I already have a phone...

Then we'll have to wait and see if Apple releases a 7" version too - I just hope they keep the 9.7" as well. It would be absolutely vacuous if they didn't! (sorry - just trying out some new vocabulary! :D)

Side-note: I would love to see a 7" and 11-12" iPad released sometime in the near future to coexist with the current 9.7" iPad - it'd keep most everybody happy! ;)

Good point. It might be a perfect size for women with purses.

I hadn't thought about that. But I'll bet Apple has. :)

Current iPad is portable enough. Just carry like you would with a folder. Sure, it is heavier. Maybe that liquid metal is lighter.

I LOVE the Big screen for watching Movies from Netflix, youtube stuff, Hulu Plus etc, and would hold on to this one even if I did get a new smaller one. The smaller size does not appeal to me at all

The poll results are painting a clear picture so far!
I'm not defending one side or the other, but for the sake of argument while I have my morning coffee :)... I'll bet that if you had a survey (before the iPad came out) asking what size we prefer -- 13.3" or 9.7" -- I'm sure that most people would have chosen the larger size.

Once a 7" version comes out (Samsung Tab, iPad, whatever) we'll see pretty quickly if people embrace it or not.

Well.. 13.3" would be too large. I think the perfect size for an universal device is 10". Not too big and not too small
13.3" would be too heavy and uncomfort to manage. A pain.

Hmmm....in two minds about this one. I wouldn't for them to ditch the current form factor, and given the success of the ipad, I doubt they will, but personally I could see a use for another device. Something like this:

Phone: For quick web checks, gaming on hte go etc.

7" iPad: For short journeys, eg, going to the park, trains, cars etc

10" iPad: For longer journeys (ie planes) and as a home unit

Whether I could afford that setup is another question entirely.... :)

Agree with the $ involved, however IMO this is the way Apple wants to go. I know many people who think they could not make it without their 10" iPad at home. Most wish they could place it in their "Purse". I think there is a HUGE untapped marked for a 7" device and Steve knows it. Samsung fired the first shot with a GREAT product. Steve will respond, and the naysayers will eat crow 1st Q. :apple::apple:

get a bigger purse. :D

It would be helpful (and easier to afford) if data usage could be tied together -- multiple devices, same data account.

this is only true for those of us who have multiple devices. as it stands now, the ipad requires no contract.

Agreed. My very think 13.3 inch laptop is too large. A 7 inch device would be too small for what I want it for....A 10" (9.7, actually) iPad is the PERFECT size.

For anything else, I have my iPhone 4.

Great idea, but about as likely as a snowfall in Ft Lauderdale in July. The greed of the carriers knows no bounds, and as Google's fleeting attempt at a "carrier agnostic" phone proved, an unwinnable battle. In fact, Apple and Google together could have broken the U.S. cellular oligopoly had they both refused ties and instead offered unlocked GSM and CDMA phones. Then the carriers would have been forced to compete for customers, rather than dictate terms or cripple services to meet their own objectives.

I'm not an advocate of turning the cell companies into mere water hauling utilities, but if ANYONE can justify why I can't share my 2-5gb of monthly data among all my devices (other than corporate greed and gouging), then speak up. I've watched my AT&T bills, and they account for every freaking kb of data I use, so it is no problem to let me use it among and upon whichever devices I choose.

Amen. The fact that they can get away with making people have discrete plans for each device is really a rip-off.

Speak for yourself. I disagree on all counts....
