Here is the pic that confirms for me personally that 7" is too small. If you do not enjoy browsing the web on the ipad in portrait mode, landscape on 7" will be a pinch-zoom browsing nightmare.

I'm not an advocate of turning the cell companies into mere water hauling utilities, but if ANYONE can justify why I can't share my 2-5gb of monthly data among all my devices (other than corporate greed and gouging)

Unfortunately I don't have access to the necessary equipment, but does anyone know if it were possible to use a cloned SIM card in another device simultaneously?

I'm a little torn on this one. I take my Ipad just about everywhere so portability is a big factor. But when I'm flying the bigger display is a plus. For everyday use? A 7" would be ideal as long as they didn't skimp on the functionality and storage. A camera would be nice on the 7" as well

I carry my pad everywhere, and size has never been an issue for me, so 9.7 works for me, be sides I'm almost 50 and my eyesight is not what it use to be.

+1. That picture I saw before also and it 100% convinced me that I have zero interest in a 7" screen.

+1, I imagined 7 inch in my head, I thought of a slightly screen, but not half the size of the current 9.7 inch. But a 8.5 - 9 inch screen ... hmmm...:D

So the area size of the 3.5" display is 38cm^2, the 7" is about 150cm^2 and the current 9.7" is 289.5cm^2.

So the 7" would have approximately half of its area size. This is way too small to run the same OS. I doubt that they will have another iOS or a new app store.

But I think apple should indeed release a smaller form factor, so they have a wider consumer range.

I personally like 3.5" for example. I'ts about the perfect size for me, but i got a lot of friends that prefer 4.3".

As a phone it's not so bad, but regarding something like a tablet, it's quite important to have the highest consumer range possible depending on such a important hardware feature as the display size.

Hopefully apple is not arrogant enough to be that ignorant, but somehow I doubt that as well.

I would actually prefer an even larger screen if Apple could somehow manage to keep the current dimensions and weight of the 9.7 inch iPad. I would like to see a 10.1-11 inch screen. I am sure they could make it work somehow, the black bezel would just be smaller around the bordrer. While I am dreaming I also would like this larger screen iPad to have a retina display with a minimum resolution of 2048x1536. Better yet 4096x3072 so that we can better maintain resolution compatabilty with previous iOS devices. At 4096x3072 we could have both retina quality display and double the screen real estate on a 10-11 inch screen. But then again this would probably push the iPad into the thousands of dollars range if it is even possible.

With all that said I may be willing to accept a
7 innch iPad if it has a retina quality display, weighs well under a pound and has all the features and power of it's larger brethren. I do not see a 7 inch model replacing the larger ones but perhaps there is a market for it.

I find myself wishing that the iPhone had a slightly larger screen say something in the 3.7-4.1 inch range, anything larger would be cumbersome though. A 7 inch iPad could fill the size gap for those who think that th iPhone and iPod touch screens are to small but who don't want or need a tablet in th 10+ inch range.

My preferred iPad would be the smallest size where a middle aged person can still read pdfs and ebooks comfortably.
It must fit in purse.
I must be able to thumb-type on it.
Must be convenient to pull out and change music on bus, subway, etc.
Must be able to comfortable to hold in one small lady's hand.

This is the reason why I want an iPad half the size of the current one.
