I just discovered a very interesting thing that proves that the limiting the battery charge threashold to 2024 iPads is just an arbitrary choice by Apple (that could probably fit into the planned obsolence strategy for older devices).
At some point in either iPadOS 16 or 17 (probably with the introduction of Stage Manager) Apple made a change that keeps the charge level stable when connected to an external monitor that charges the iPad.
This does not work on iPadOS 15 but works on M series and A12X, even without enabling stage manager.
It's great as it allows to have the iPad plugged to a monitor all day without keeping it at 100% during this time (or quickly discharging it in the case of portable monitors).

I have recently set the 80% limit for my battery on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, Watch Ultra and my M4 iPad Pro. I have never done this before and although I can still last the day, it takes a bit of getting used to, to not see 100% charged in the morning.

Do you use the 80% limit or not? Do you think it’s worth it?
I don't have this option on my iPad pro M1, but if it had I would prob turn it on. Main reason would be that it last for ages cuz I don't use it that much.
On my phone I wouldn't, I need all the juice I can get.

Instead of all this psychology angst/etc, wouldn't it have been nice to address this like addressing "you're holding it wrong?" and making a simple software tweak to make 80% in reality show as 100%? Then, it will do whatever this 80% setting is supposed to do while the user gets the psychological satisfaction of feeling they are fully charged... instead of "wasting" 20% additional charge by leaving it unused.

And/or add a bit more physical battery to make what was a 100% charge equivalent to actually using 80% of the enhanced battery. That too would deliver the target benefit without the mental angst.
That's the kind of invention we'd like to se from Apple. Instead of improving battery and charging tech, mask the issue by hiding a fifth of the actual capacity.
Almost as good as selling a 9-core cpu where only 8 cores can be used.

I stand by what I said. People shouldn’t worry about it, but have the right to ask.

That doesn’t validate your impractical responses.
But you have no problem trying to shame people for having opinions.

I’m curious which responses of mine you consider impractical to the discussion of "is setting a charge limit worth it"?
