I truly value all the responses here, I will summarize them this weekend.
Thank you so many members.

I’m setting up dad’s new MacBook Air M1 laptop now, got it just last Saturday.

Migrated my account as admin account. Got his Synology DS118 NAS 4TB setup. First hard drive, a WD Red pro was bad, got replacement in 2 days.
It syncs Wi-Fi as plugged into his Wi-Fi router, and I have secure access to it from my home to do admin stuff and fix issues.
I’ll have my dad over Feb 12th weekend for sleepover, will migrate his stuff from old MacBook retina over, and also test my remote support of him .. based on your advice

Fwiw, I’ve been reading this thread, just so busy with my 2 high school sons ski racing Tuesday and Wednesday, no time to reply.

I’ll post my summary in the thread 1 so others can have cliff notes.
Also, will share my experiences after February 12th weekend when I simulate remote supporting my dad.

Oh, after I migrate my dads account and stuff, that DS118 will hold his time machine backup. Before I take him back to his assist living home, I’ll copy that file to my Synology DS920+.

The functionality you're looking for is built into the Messages app for macOS (do you both have Macs?).
When you have Message open, open your conversation with your dad, click the Conversation menu in the menu bar, then click "ask to share screen"
When your dad replies to the prompt, you will be able to control his Mac in the same way you would your own.
I hope this helps! Good luck!
Yes, I use Messages to help my 88-year old dad to remotely help him with his iMac.
