Fine. I don't like the newest upgrade of the Apple Watch. But I'm not coming onto MacRumors calling them evil and tyring to "shame" them into a better product. I just don't buy it and move on. And I suspect they'll catch me on the next version.
You are reading in the wrong thread then, specially one with such a headline!

So buy the 16 gb version or more. You're an informed consumer, you know what type of use you'll have. So buy the one you need. No need to be upset at the base model that works fine for millions of people if you need something more.

Who said I was upset? I in fact bought the high-end M3 Max 16-inch version (after testing the M3 Pro for a couple days) because it’s more suitable to my needs.

I just think it was a foolish move for probably minor parts-cost savings on Apple’s part to release that base 14-inch model with so little RAM. 8gb RAM is going to result in heavy swap-file use for almost anyone using it. That both slows down the perceived speed, and adds a lot of read/write cycles to the internal SSD which should be rightfully considered a “consumable resource” given what we know about SSD lifespan.

Its great that Apple made the entry price point to get into the 14-inch MBP lower, just a real shame about the 8gb.

I think you should be the person to define the meaning of "pro" and the specs needed for that label. Why dont you write a letter to the FTC proposing that, and maybe they will make it official so that the pros don't get swindled.
Well, I see the apologists won't be shamed even after seeing the results with their own eyes.

Honestly it’s just embarrassing for Apple what absolute contempt they have for their customer base. They honestly believe their customers are utter idiots.

I wouldn't say that it's meaningless. Customers speak with their wallets and we need to send a loud and clear message to Apple that for many of us...this is unacceptable. The problem is that they may never get that message if people keep buying these underpowered machines. By the time the M4 line releases, hopefully 16/512 will be the minimum.
But they buy them because their TikTok looks better, and sounds better on the Pro machine with only 8 GB. They buy overpriced coffee at Starbucks, so why not a laptop?

I think what he's saying is that this matter is way beyond simply not buying it. We need to take to the streets. We need to rally. We will let apple know, with our wallets, but also with our voices and signs. 8GB, NOT FOR ME. We will not stop until our demands are met and 16GB is the base model.

Weird that people whine about the lowest available RAM being "too low" even though it suits many folks just fine. Who cares? I would only whine if Apple failed to make higher levels of RAM available.

My take is y'all are really just price whining, which got really old years ago.

It would be funny if next year it comes with 16 GB for the same base model price. I can imagine the uproar from the people that bought the current 8 GB model. Why should they complain 8 GB was OK right?

Apple is arrogant and obnoxious
They feel the need to rip off their customers and one day people are just going to say enough already
The Mac OS has gotten more complex with riduculous features hardly anyone uses or needs, plus they are frequently buggy. Using a Mac on facebook is torture.
Why does a page shift to the right for no reason at times? I click on it and it goes back, what exactly is this? I don;t need or want my web pages to start moving as if it's possessed.
16Gb RAM should be standard across the board, period. They would sell a lot more Mac Mini's, Macbooks, etc right off the shelf if they came with 16Gb RAM
Apple has a ton of money yet they feel the need to keep doing this. It's gotten to the point that Apple is more arrogant than Microsoft ever was.

so go "vote" with your wallet ... would you be satisfied with the base model have 16GB but costs 1899? (I think that's $200 over the current 8GB base model)

"Shame" is a religious and social term. Not a business term. Lack of sales is not a "shameful" issue; it's simply economics. That's part of what I find so fascinating by you pitchfork-bearers on this forum. It's just business. It's not personal.
Apple did not bring back HDMI ports and SD card slots in their "Pro" laptops because it's in their business interest. They did it because it was an embarrassment. The same could probably be said about dropping that abomination called "touchbar", but that'll probably bring out the actual pitchfork bearers, so I won't go further into that. ;)

Apple really needs to stop being petty like this in 2023 and make 16 the base. Reminds me of the 16gb base model iPhone days. Come on.
You can call it a boycott or you can say you're "voting with your dollar".

Just stop buying a new Mac so often and Apple will have to give better value for all configurations.

Anyone on a M1 Pro or Max moving to an M3 is a part of this issue.

I don't know. Because I hate Starbucks but I love Apple? Also, I hate TikTok.

I'm just trying to rally the troops so we can storm the castle.

So I suppose that 8GB on a Mac are not equal to 16GB on a PC.

Apple actually went and claimed that. I felt so ashamed as an Apple Silicon user.
I think they were partially right. macOS can run pretty well on 8GB, when you take into account you're running on 8GB. Email, a browser with a few tabs open, mostly no issues. I don't believe anyone should run on only 8GB though. 16GB should be an absolute baseline regardless of platform.

There's that word again. Shamed. Which side of this discussion is rational and which is religious? Probably the side that is using terminology like "shame" to describe buying or not buying a computer.
What's shameful is Apple selling $1600 "Pro" computers with 8GB. But hey, why deal with the issue if you can engage in semantic arguments.
