Usage:
-shake your phone and your ready to make your first call :)

Um, don't you have to first tap the app icon to start the app? Also, sounds to me like somebody who has normal vision and normal mobility would have to first set up the app.

You can place the icon on the lower left corner instead of the native calling app, so it can be easily accessible even without looking.
Try it !!

Yes, that would work, but you still have to first tap the icon!

i know of 0 blind people who would use the iPhone. Come on, get real.

It's true that at the moment, touch-screen devices in general aren't usable for people with no or extremely low vision, but I welcome any attempts to try to make them accessible. It's a small, and perhaps not entirely practical, step, but in the right direction. I also like that the OP is trying to make something useful for a wide range of people. A lot of adaptations intended for people with disablities end up being useful for everyone in general -- for instance, making a building wheel-chair accessible usually ends up helping everyone wheeling in heavy luggage. So it's good to see somebody taking a wider perspective on adaptive technology.

Well if you read previous post you would read that:
"a special phone" is a dialing system created specifically for people with special dialing needs. This application helps people with visual disabilities and physical handicaps. It creates a simple solution to dialing on a touch screen that will not only be of great use to the blind, but also to the elderly, children, and those that have problems using the flat touch surface to dial."

And

"This application is great for people with special needs especially the blinds. Children, eldery, and people without a special needs will all benefit from the easy to use UI on this app. "

Thanks

If you need to make a call, the only thing you need to do is to shake your phone , hear an audio and feel the vibration to confirm your contact to be called. So actually you are not using the iPhone flat surface but relying on your other senses in order to place a call.

I did. When I drag the icon to the dock and release, it just springs back to where it started.

You have to move the icon over other app icon where you want to place it:apple:
After you finish placing the icon, press on the home button to confirm changes.

How do you pick which contact to call? How do you confirm?

I am. I know you can rearrange the icons that are already in the dock. But I cannot drag an app that isn't in the dock into the dock. It just springs back.

As Jeremy1026 stated above, you first have to drag an icon out of the dock to make space.

A will explain that later tomorrow with some snapshot from the "A Special Phone"

Great! Look forward to it!

Ah, thanks. That was the ticket.

But just seems awfully tricky to expect a blind person to do the same thing.

Well close your eyes feel the left edge of your iPhone, try it 2 or 3 times and see how it is easy to do it :)
Later you can press the correct icon without even feeling the edges. It's like shooting a basketball.

N.B: you can use regular iPhone cases to make it even easier feel the edges ;)

Once the icon is in that position, yes. But somebody else would have to move that icon there for a blind person.
