Less then 8 hours for the release of "A Special Phone" :apple:
Is there anyone has suggestions of how we improve "A Special Phone" icon?

You can make an icon in eight hours? :D

Personally, I think it would look better if all the background was the same color, and the wheelchair take up the lower left half, and the phone handle on the top right half. Maybe try flipping the direction the phone handle is facing, see which one looks better.

Ah, gotcha.

Oh, and also try different sizes -- I think it'd look better if the wheelchair was a bit bigger than half the icon, but it's hard to know without actually seeing it.

And talking about next release, have you considered making it so that if you tap the four corners, each corner will call a different contact? I don't know how hard you have to shake for the shake to register, but if it's anything like shaking the dice in MotionX Dice, shaking six times in a row would leave me pretty tired. Shaking twice, I can do. So shake once for contact 1, twice for contact 2, tap four corners for contacts 3-6? Maybe you could tap center for a 7th contact, if a visually impaired person can train themselves to find the center -- I really have no idea how feasible that would be.

You need only to apply a small force, like leaning your hand a little bit faster than usual and it will be registered as a shake. You may try it tomorrow and let me know your feedback.
Button placement in the four corners is a good idea to extend shakes capability :)
Thanks for your suggestions

Hi

"A Special Phone" is intended to help people with special needs and make their life easier. So If you know friend or family member that has special needs please tell him about this app and encourage them to try it. the app and give us feedback. Also if know a special needs center please let them know about "A Special Phone" and if they can give us some feedback on how we to improve this app in future updates.

I also urge people how are interested or know someone with special need to participate in this discussion and give us their thought and feedbacks.

And don't forget, "A Special Phone" would be release in few hours.
N.B: It would be very helpful if you leave us review at the app store :)

Thanks

The description looks great, but if you notice the second and the last "A Speacial Phone" don't have capitalization on the words. :D Just trying to keep it consistent, btw.

Thanks for the notification, I just submitted a revised version of the description.
It will take a few hours before it shows. So check it out and give us your feedback ;)

I just caught this thread, so I'm catching up.

its a great idea, but i can't see how a blind person could even remotely use a touch screen based phone.

Because you assume that blind means completely blind, not impaired.

My wife is legally blind, but isn't completely blind, and honestly, most people who are blind are not completely blind. Have a read of the first 2 paragraphs here and you'll be enlightened.

I'm glad has been released. I was hoping someone would help to start bridging the gap between iPhones/iPod Touch and those blind/visually impaired who want to use them, but can't. Thank you, and my SO will be VERY happy when she sees this.

BL.

You don't know how I'm glad to know this app will make a lot of people happy like your wife. And I'm very opened to get feedbacks from people like your wife and try to improve "A Special Phone" in future updates.

Please spread the word to make other in-need people happy and their families too :)
And don't forget to leave us your testimony at the app store.
Thanks you for your support.

Ok, I tried it, and unfortunately, "leaning your hand a little bit faster than usual" isn't working -- I find I have to shake it quite hard. I also can't find a way to add a contact more than once. For instance, I have a friend who has two numbers he can be reached at, depending on the time of day, and I was hoping I could add each number as a different "shake." Is there a way to do this, and I'm just overlooking something?

I don't have any vision problems, so I can't judge how useful this app is for people with vision impairments, but considering that my level of mobility difficulty is on the rather mild side, I'd say it would take more work for the "shake" function to be of use for people with more serious mobility issues.

By the way, I didn't realize the phone handle had smily faces until I saw the bigger picture inside the app. I like the faces, they are a cute touch!

Hi
Thanks for your feedback.
About shake sensibility. In the update following this coming one, I will add an option for user to change shake sensibility to adapt for his situation.
For now you can't add for the same contact 2 #numbers , but I will add it with future update.
For the faces, they are little surprises to make you happy :)
Your feedback was very helpful and I'm waiting for other feedbacks.
Thanks

No problem, this app is for you guys and as I said from the beginning I'm open to any feedback.
The only thing I need is to write reviews in the app store and spread the word in order to continue working on this app :)

You mean "getting others to write reviews in the app store", right? You're not reviewing your own app, are you?
Yes, you are right I'm know tired after a long day sending emails to all over mentioning that there is an app in iPhone that are for people for special needs.

What frustrated me that MacWord covered Google news about Android Eyes-Free Keypad Input and there is an iPhone app that do much better than that and they didn't cover it up . When I tried to post a comment so people be aware of "A Special Phone" they removed my comment!!! and send me a PM for stopping posting comment about my app. They didn't even look at it

So if anyone read this message please go to MacWord and post a comment that there is an app for iPhone too that target people with special needs:
http://www.macworld.com/article/139832/2009/04/android_accessibility.html

I saw Google Eyes-Free Keypad on youtube, it was very unprofessional !!
Tomorrow, I will post a youtube response movie and let them know that iPhone is also for people with special needs :apple:
The movie will also contain comparison between their work and my app ;)

Got the app, used it and posted my review on iTunes.

No qualms whatsoever with this app except for the settings button which I really thought was unresponsive. Well, I can live with that for now.

This app works as advertised and I'm really happy.

Looking forward to future updates.
