Definitely has issues... can't tell an IR port from... well, whatever he thought it was:

I personally liked this functionality since it does have a sensor in the front of the unit that will automatically detect if someone is sitting in front of the MacBook. Nice job Apple..

Uhm... okay... lemme know how that goes there. I will be using my remote as designed thank you, works decently enough with Keynote.

24 seconds flat. Bull. I timed his video. Took 35 seconds from the power button push. I also did the same test with my powerbook in sig, my powerbook took 3 seconds longer.

Wow. Just... wow.
If people can actually make money writing reviews that my 12 year old sister could write (and do a better job) then I have lost all confidence in the capitalist system.
If someone pays me (or, for that matter, even if I'm not being paid) to write a review, I...
A) ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!
B) If I don't know something, I research it. Where on earth did he get 5-8 hours of battery life, magnetic latches, or the magic sensor that detects a user?
C) I check my spelling.
D) I check my grammar.
E) Write in complete sentences.
F) Take pictures that have decent lighting.
G) Try my best not to drop the $2000 computer I'm reviewing.

Sorry, I'm sounding pretty mean. It just pains me to know that a complete idiot is enjoying a MBP while I have to suffer in agony until the 20th.

My MBP does it 25 seconds from the press, roughly. So yeah... YMMV.

Can we please stop using the word "retard" as an insult?
People with mental disabilities are people, just like you or me. You might have not known that, but you should start acting like you do.
Please use common decency. I actually know several people with mental disabilities, and they are all amazing people. It's not just to use the word "retard" as an insult, so please stop.

I seriously hope this review is a joke.
Unfortunately, though, it doesn't have that absurd quality the Mac mini review had.
I don't get why people think the MagSafe is good for if you drop your MBP. I mean, it's alright if it drops a foot onto carpet, but anything more than that and you're a Sad Macintosh. And your MBP's a broken Macintosh.
I understand that it's more for if your cord is draped across the floor and someone trips over it, your MBP's power cord port is unharmed, but dropping it doesn't make much sense.
I wouldn't give a damn that my power cord was messed up if my MBP fell to the ground and broke.

I'm still waiting for a review of the MacBook Pro where:
a) The MBP was properly set up and the battery was calibrated.
b) There are battery estimates (not using the menubar estimate!) which actually give accurate estimates of average usage.
c) During these battery estimates, the person isn't installing things, editing videos or using Photoshop. People don't really do these things "on the go." They do these things on a desk with their laptop plugged in.
d) How good the performance is without using weird benchmark numbers that are difficult to trust.
e) How good performance is under Rosetta, using things like Firefox, Office:mac and similar.

(P.S. Sorry if I sound bitter; I'm sick and not in a very good mood. :p )

Edit: From the looks of the .avi file, it seems like the guy had the side of his MBP on the floor, the MBP swung down, hit the ground and bounced around for a bit. I'm sure this wouldn't do anything to your MBP from such a small drop, but most of us would probably not do it. :D

I would be more than happy to do that for you... if I had a MacBook Pro. :(

I'll except donations. ;)

In other news, does anyone want to buy a slightly used Macbook Pro?

LOL, seriously, this has to be a joke (like the mini review), although the video is pretty convincing.

Ouch!!! I could *not* believe that he dropped it! That took a few days off of my life...I get the impression that that is his first Apple...IMHO, he was waaay too impressed by features that come standard on PBs and iBooks, not MacBookPro-unique features. I agree with you all, in that this type of consumer scares me...

You are right. I hate people that use those words. Its so retarded. This PC stuff has gotten way out of hand. Just like saying negro is a bad word now. For gods sakes, negro is black in SPANISH! Retarded means that a person has a problem with their brain and can't function correctly as does the reviewer. Got another name we can use for an insult that won't offend anyone in the world? NO. If you did, it wouldn't be an insult. Give it a rest.

i agree... without the rant. but i definately agree with that dude up there who mentioned that he didn't do any research about the 5-8 hours, magnetic sensor..

seriously. how do you stand writing an article where you have half the info wrong?

the worst part about him dropping the mbp was the sound.. sounded like it was on cement

Hmm... I don't see anywhere in the article where the reviewer talks about Mac OS X as "a stripped-down operating system which Apple calls OS X" :D

Also, no serial ports or 5.25" floppy disk drives? Damn, this thing sucks!

Actually, being retarded is a complex problem of the brain, which is caused by abnormal genes inherited by parents, or a lack of oxygen during pregnancy. It's a terrible problem, and people with mental retardation suffer through it, but they still live to be great human beings. Many philosophers had some form of mental retardation (most of it was Asperger's Syndrome or a slight autism).

I don't think it's fair to use this disease as an insult when you don't know what the person has gone through. It's like saying something's "gay" as an insult. There's nothing wrong with gay people, as with people suffering from mental retardation.

The reviewer wasn't using common sense. He doesn't suffer from mental retardation (I assume). So let's just give it a rest.

I'm going to stop writing about this, because you should've gotten the point by now. If you still disagree with what I said, that's your problem to deal with outside of this forum.

I expcted Apple to add some nerdiness to this new product and I DID find it. :)

They printed MacBook Pro "reflection" on the rubber. Moreover, they used a different font. :) Go check yours out! It's the reflection of "MacBook Pro" engrageved below the screen.

I would feel better if the guy that said, in his words: "Oh COMON!" had gotten the MacBook Pro. He probably knew what a latch was. Was this guy actually thinking that there was a strong magnet holding the display down that made a cracking cound when FORCED OPEN? Does he not know the purpose of MagSafe? You do not SUSPEND the computer cable off of MagSafe! I wonder what the MacBook Pro fell on. In that little clip, when it fell, it made a big CRACKING sound! and never trust a review that says something like this:

Good thing nothing happened to the power cord! Magsafe works! :D

LOL. That's right.

"without damage to either the cord or the system"

Yeah, that's why they made the magsafe. To keep the cord safe. I have to tell that to my friend who dented his powerbook because he tripped the powercord.
