Impressed with this one. Glad it's getting decent reviews. For their first effort, you've gotto give them credit.

If I was an Android user, I'd weigh up this & the Pixel 2.

The S8 active I have is a beast with battery life, I get like 8hrs screen on time, and it has a 4,000mah battery. With this running stock android it should be even better.
Battery Capacity and Stock Android isn't everything, a lot of optimisation needs to be done under the hood.

My concerns have been confirmed. Look at how it compares at both 120Hz and 60Hz to the LG V30 and Galaxy Note8 which have 3300mAh batteries and larger higher res displays with Custom Android UIs.

I just saw Jaime Rivera’s first look at it. Wow.:eek: The price is manageable. I don’t think this would be my daily driver but it could be a “family phone” we pass around as each of us plays through a game. None of us is ever going all out on a game at the same time anymore due to different schedule commitments. If it can just be on WiFi without a sim, so much the better, but maybe my husband will otherwise throw his Android’s sim in it since he prefers to use only one phone at a time.

But jeez, look at the use this thing is meant for. It is hard not to say “Hell yeah!” Unless of course it’s shown to stink at gaming. And that would be so sad.

Man...a Final Fantasy game on a gaming phone.

I’m jelly. You have the phone I wish I had waited for. I wasn’t sure if they were going to do an Active version this year, and if so, that it would be any good. But they did and it’s good and I’m jelly.

For those interested here's the full GSMArena Review
https://www.gsmarena.com/razer_phone-review-1683.php

It is a good first go by Razer, hopefully the battery life will see increases with updates as the hardware (huge battery) is there, just a matter of taming that IGZO 120Hz Display.
Hmm...kind of a disappointing conclusion about what it brings to or out of the mobile gaming niche, given all of the limitations Razer has no control over. It’s not like the situation with Nintendo where they design the games and the hardware to complement each other. It’s still a cool phone and not a bad price. With that form factor and limited camera specs and lack of water resistance, I just can’t see it supplanting other established and more well rounded Android phones as a single phone/daily driver for most people. Niche phone is niche and even other phones can do that niche competitively, if that review is anything to go by.

Indeed. It's at best a glorified standard Android Flagship, but at the same time it's not a bad thing, means the phone is decent. That Standout feature of a 120Hz display is unfortunately also it's downfall, a little too soon for it as it eats battery and there is not enough content for it.

A decent effort by Razer but nothing special.

I see this phone eventually going for very cheap and being sold with some high-end accessories of theirs. Sure there will be tons of these sitting at stands at gaming conventions. Hi f Razer are clever they will partner up with Mobile Gaming companies to use the Razer phone as their demo phones for the games at conventions and stores. Still good opportunity for Razer here.

Yeah and the form factor is kind of appealing for gaming. It’s just not appealing to carry to the office or around in pockets or folios. Other than some of us phone nuts on this forum, I don’t know anybody who carries two phones unless one is a business issue phone and the other is for personal use. This could be a hard sell even for my husband’s gaming nerd friends. I initially thought it would bring new capabilities to the table just based on the casual impression I formed of it, even so, like I said, it was going to stay in the house for the whole family to use.

Instead, I see now the money could be better spent on another Nintendo Switch, since right now only my husband has one and he’s not sharing. :D Not that anyone is complaining. iPad games are what our kids are into right now and a Pokémon game on the 3DS handhelds. But even that’s given way to...of all things...reading, which of course is most welcome. After “Harry Potter” and other standard teen fare, they were at loose ends for a bit, but now they’re going nuts over Agatha Christie for some reason. Old to us adults, new to them, and they’re going bonkers. They’ve even got me rereading “Murder on the Orient Express”. The first time I read it, I’d skipped past all the French I forgot from college, but this time I’ve got Google Translate by my side and it’s so cool. The kids think so, too. Anyway, my mother-in-law is a huge murder mystery fan and thrilled dizzy that she’s cool with the teens again. :p

seems like the main issues for this reviewer is the display brightness outdoors and camera performance.

ACReview said:
Razer's first Android phone is a striking piece of hardware with excellent performance, undone by a dim display and a calamitous camera.

I think you need something to hold onto for sure.I hope for their sake there is a large enough market for this, I'd certainly get this over the Essential PH-1 if I were to pick a 2017 Newbie device.

Agreed. I just can't get myself to like the Essential Phone, I feel like it was trying way too hard to be different.

It was different - a 2017 Android phone with all the flagship specs and still managed to make stock Android run like crap.
