I've been to England many times and they have nothing on the US

I’d like to visit England one day, but I have a few other places in mind first...Indonesia, Japan, Russia, Poland, Dubai, and more time in Costa Rica. I’m seriously considering moving to CR.

looks worse than it actually is, plenty on that section of the forum would have no problems having a beer with those from the opposite side.

Definitely true here. I find listing to people who don’t agree with me to be far more interesting than those who echo back at me what I already know/believe/think. That said, the last year has been the most hostile I’ve EVER experienced on PRSI and the few times I got involved, suspensions and mods frowning abounded. As a very wise poster said on this thread - my heart rate is high enough.

The PRSI forum was added to keep PRSI discussion out of the main forums as the majority of our members don’t want to read about it while they are browsing a tech site.

I would pay $ to be able to keep PRSI out of the latest threads view on the Forums page. This is what keeps hooking me to read PRSI and respond. I realize updating Forum software isn’t easy but I’d gladly pay another contributor year or two just for that feature.

I went to Germany last year for work. Was astounded how nice the food was and how friendly the people were. We even had talks about our current president with several German dinner patrons who had several German beers (the super tall kind - wiped me out after 1/2 of one) but perfectly capable of talking. It never got bad or heated. That said, I went to Japan this year for business and wow... I think if I wanted to go anywhere to live it would be Japan. People so nice, polite, everything so clean, just wow. Japan is definitely the best place I’ve ever visited. The absolute silence while riding on their trains almost made me cry (loved it so much). lol.

I’m envious. I want to visit in the spring to see the Apple and cherry blossoms. I very much like Japanese art and decor ... clean and balanced.

I want to go to the Pacific but haven't spent much time there aside from Hawaii which I wouldn't count. Dubai is on my list to go to and my ex-wife's sister went there with her fiancé and they spoke highly of it. Russia is somewhere I want to go also and I spend a lot of time in Eastern Europe with my job. I haven't been to Costa Rica but want to go there as well. Going to other countries is fun but nothing beats walking through Customs when you come back to the US and know you're home. What makes you want to move to Costa Rica?

Germany is where I was for my first 2 duty stations. It was an experience because it was right when they started becoming more anti-American. I have friends who have been stationed in Japan and they loved it

I want to go to Japan after talking to some of my friends who are and were stationed there. It seems they are more technologically advanced than the rest of the world

That’s when I went this year - Late March - early April. The cherry blossom flowers were like snow - it was very beautiful, cool, air so clean, etc... I just loved the bowing all the people did after every transaction - they never insisted on going first in lines, etc... Love the endless vending machines where you can buy anything (hot / cold drinks, food). I went for work and got to see Okinawa and then went to Tokyo.

I went to Wiesbaden, Germany last year just for a week. It was nice, but yeah they warned us that the age of American friendliness was over and people may not be so nice to us. We were asked to keep a low profile, especially in Okinawa, Japan. Lol.

The internet speeds in Japan puts FIOS to shame. I could retire there for that reason alone. :)

"Nothing" is a little strong in the circumstances, don't you think?

Anyway, each to their own.

I had an ice-cream in London called: Loseley (Honey & Stem Ginger). Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life. Wish we had something like that here. Lol. The bread in Germany was to die for too - the rolls fresh from the bakery were amazing. The beer floors (knocks out) anyone used to American beer tho, lol.

I could get used to the rain, love the rain. We get rain here in the high desert of California like 2-4 times a year. :(

I have been to Wiesbaden many times! I enjoyed Germany but it wasn't because of the German people. I even dated a German and her family was anti-American. My Company Commander lived off base and got his tires slashed at least twice and that is when I realized it wasn't the Germany from my father's days. Hell I was born in West Berlin! What kind of work do you do? You mentioned Wiesbaden and Okinawa so I am curious. I have friends from different schools I did in the Army who are now with 1st SFG in Okinawa and they love it! Sadly I never made it to Asia

The Internet speeds in parts of the US are disgusting. I have had better Internet on deployments than I have had in parts of the US but that is a rant for another thread which I will happily partake in if it ever pops up

I am not apologizing because England sucks compared to the US but your opinion that it is strong in the circumstances is not only incorrect but unfounded. Besides isn't London more dangerous than NYC

The German beer is one of few things I miss from being stationed in Germany

I’m a software programmer for the USACE. :) Probably all I should say, but I’m just a fat civilian contractor sitting at a computer trying to make US Army software do what all the USACE guys/gals want it to do. Lol.

I guess they thought I was good enough (most of us fat programmers are pretty anti-social) to send me to the above mentioned places so I could teach people how to use the software. It is a privilege working with those who serve.

Ha. I would love to visit there as I hear it’s a great place to retire

On vBulletin forums it was easy to add a password to the politics section. That kept it from showing up on what’s new unless you had the password. McR moved to xenforo. .? Not sure how it would work there

Been to the US three times. Nice place to visit, but happy being English thanks.
Same here. I get “requested” to move to California for work roughly every six months. Nothing against California, it’s a beautiful place and all, and typically the people are lovely, but for me Europe suits. I just prefer it over here.

"Danger" or perceived danger is not what I was discussing.

Other stuff, history, culture, cuisine, - perhaps people and politics, too - are how I judge the attractiveness of a country.

And no, I doubt that London is more "dangerous" than New York.

I assumed it was Army related since you mentioned Wiesbaden and Okinawa. Software programming is something I never got into but I hear they get paid well. It is a privilege working with those who serve and that is something I miss since I left active duty and now work as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer

Talk about whatever you want but that doesn't change the fact that England sucks compared to the US. The people are arrogant which is funny because England is nothing compared to what they once wore

Apparently London is more dangerous than NYC:
London's murder rate now tops New York City's
London now more dangerous than New York City, crime stats suggest
That goes to show British people are wrong it isn't a gun problem but a violence problem. I have access to better statistics through my job as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer but I don't think they're for release yet

this is absolutely ridiculous (even though it sadly may be even true)

why would I like or dislike one single (American) person because of his citizenship or because of who is leading his country or the direction his country is going to?

nothing has changed for me nor ever will change. I still do love the USA because of the values it is built on and those individuals who earn my respect when I meet them

I would love to get to know the Japanese culture, even though I do think it would be far too artificial, stiff and regulated for me .. I may be wrong here

But even if I would end up not liking the culture/country, this would not condition nor influence my attitude towards the individual, you know

I do not know about you but I HATE being judged because of my citizenship, colour of my skin or any other category some sick mind could come up with

(OP: this here is about philosophy, not politics)

It's overrated to an extent. I was stationed in Europe for my first 2 duty stations and was glad to finally get stationed in the US. True it is a more "target rich environment" than certain places in the US but nothing comes close to the US
Everyone’s experience is different. I want to visit all of it. Not just the UK
