I sent it in to Apple. I escalated as high as I could. I did everything I could. I did customer service for 20 years I know the game. Every company works the same. Randomly people get screwed. I has me tempted to ditch Apple. I am just very disappointed right now. It’s not the same company with Tim running it. It’s becoming a political thing and I don’t like companies pushing political issues.

I actually agree that they may try to get away with not paying, especially for some reason if you “send it in.” For some reason, many of us have better luck going in person. I think escalating is not a bad idea, but it does take time and energy. If you’re done, you’re done. There’s no guarantee they’ll change their tune.

Yeah don’t send it in. Learned that the hard way. Even if something is obviously glitching they’ll deny the claim and come up with some lame Copy-paste response that they were unable to replicate the issue blah blah.

Even calling in is better

Ideally, you want that face to face interaction. They tend to make a lot more exceptions this way - provided you’re not being rude.

Wife looking at something on my iPad... young energetic toddler comes bouncing along... headbutts the iPad... falls flat onto tiles... No more iPad.

It's a completely plausible story - accidents happen in the strangest of places.

It's a shame Apple didn't cover this as accidental damage though. I guess if it was just the screen it would have been fine, its just where the force has gone right through to the rear case.

Can you try again with another rep??
Although I guess its in the system now regardless.......

Not sure how you think trying with another rep is a solution. He had to send it in; when you do that, you don't get to choose which tech evaluates it.

I wonder if Apple Care+ I have will cover this.... I don't expect it to.... But very upsetting.
That’s what apple care + is for, instead of paying full price for repairs which is expensive, you end up paying hardly nothing with apple care + 😁

They’ll give you a refurbished iPad and away you go. 😁

Apple's decision isn't the law and it's not final. I'd pursue filing a small claims. A judge will very likely agree it falls under accidental damage.

Don’t give up till you get it replaced with apple care + go to the consumer watchdog if you have to, a load of crap that you’re paying for apple care + and they still won’t replace the iPad for you.

What’s the bloody point of paying for apple care + in the first place then. 🤦‍♂️😡

Ouch, this looks very painful. I have learned some years ago that fixing cars and iPads is a dangerous game. I was fixing something that was taking ages while using my iPad as a manual/reference guide. Every time when I was doing work on the car, I put the iPad on the roof. Well, when I finally finished I was so excited to go test it out that I forgot about the iPad. Poor thing was never to be found again.

For high risk situations I use an inexpensive device like an Amazon Fire HD 10 that often goes on sale for $80.

Well... The last few hours have been interesting. Long story short, I filled out a customer survey sent to me about my experience with my Apple Support Case..... It was harsh but not F U Apple but you really let me down blah blah blah from me. I got a call from Apple from a lady named Deirdre said she was head of Retail Support. Received my feedback and wanted to know everything that had happened in my words first, then had and offer of good will for me. We went over all the details and she said she had listened to all my calls already, and the emails. Then she said well we screwed up bad. Somehow "the system" was saying it was out of warranty and had no apple care. But they could see it had Apple Care. But only by looking at my purchase history. So she and I talked about my options. I told her because I got mad Friday I threw it in the trash and told her I really didn't want to go dumpster diving. She said I had two choices I can try and retrieve it. And as a good will gesture they will replace it and "make it worth my time." Or with no iPad I get all my money from the last 13 months of Apple Care back and that's all they could do. I asked what does worth my time mean? She said "We shall see what we can do but I don't think you would be disappointed." I said are you willing to hold for 5 mins while I try to get it? She said sure. You bet your butt I dove in my trash and got it. She is having shipped directly to Apple. As soon as they have it she said "A new 11 iPad Pro will be heading out to you." UM that part didn't hit me until I got off the phone. NEW? Not refurbished. ? We shall see. She said she will be calling me back next week. I asked her name again cause I am horrible with names. Mrs Deirdre O'Brein Vice President of Retail. UM WOW. I will keep you posted.

Nice! I'm really happy you're getting the VIP treatment here, it's absolutely wrong that they didn't give you a replacement. Hopefully yours will be the latest iPad Pro (2021).

Overall this is why I think managing AppleCare+ claims in person is preferred - it's a lot easier to get whomever's on the other side to actually pay attention to the details - which in this case is your rightful claim to getting a replacement under AppleCare+.

It's too bad that Apple treats customers like pushovers unless customers push back for their rights. Apple didn't do you any favors as the outcome would be the same if you had pursued a small claims. However, you did them a favor by settling instead of obtaining an attorney to pursue extended warranty fraud.

Really???? You are joking right? Yeah become another idiot to sue Apple. They did not commit fraud. Their system made a mistake. It's people like you why this world is screwed up.

Great to hear you had a good outcome even though it took awhile.. I've seen Everythingapplepro completely destroy a new iPad/iPhone for no reason other than views and he always says they get replaced through Applecare+.. IMO, deliberate destruction shouldn't be covered considering it is most definitely not an accident..

I agree that the situation you raised is clearly deliberate destruction and shouldn't be eligible for AppleCare+.

However I'd think this is more of an exception rather than the rule - deliberate destruction is not desirable in the vast majority of cases. I believe it only works in this example because Everythingapplepro makes a profit from these videos - I don't think anyone can just start smashing their iPad and getting thousands of views on Youtube (which is how Youtubers make profits).

Most regular consumers gain nothing from destroying their iPad deliberately except wasted time trying to get a replacement and restoring the data on it.

I agree completely. I was just saying if they replace Everythingapplepro's without a hassle they shouldn't give a legitimate accidental damage claim the run around. Granted, the OP's situation seems like a mistake on Apple's part for not realizing he actually had Applecare+ and thought it was just a non warranty claim and finally rectified the problem (and then some) so everyone was happy.

What's political about not replacing an iPad?

That might be just a silly claim for YouTube.

Glad it worked out.
I think the initial refusal/mix up is an aberration rather than typical. You can say a lot of things about Apple, but they are generally very good in terms of aftersales. Arguably it’s priced-in to the products.
