I understand that. But, I used to be able to quickly shut down all apps still running in background by just double-clicking my home button. I’ve tried the “swipe” action as rapidly as I could without success. Do you know a way to duplicate the double-click on the no button type?

Bob

Just yesterday I discovered the trick to replicate this on non-home button versions you just swipe upwards and stop halfway up. When you lift your finger, you are at the same place. It’s apparently called the “app switcher”. Glad to discover it.

I for one am stoked that apple chose the iPhone 6-8 form factor for the new SE since all accessories work the same. It was exactly what I was looking for. I like the "idea" of keeping the iPhone 5/5s/SE smaller size, but I'm getting old and prefer the slightly larger size. I think it's a good upgrade at a great price point.

Agree. The first SE was a modern chipset in Smaller, prior gen hardware. This exactly continues that tradition. The market has almost entirely moved away from anything smaller.

When I compared my old Iphone 8 which was in a very bulky case, with the Iphone 11 pro in the apple store, they were almost the same size. It's a pretty small phone by 2020 standards if you look at other flagships. Even the standard one plus 8 is 6.5.5 inches, bigger than the pro max. I think the answer to the OP's question will probably be the rumoured 5.4 inch 12.

I will try to keep it simple.
As an iPhone 6s user i wanted a new iPhone with a similar or larger screen but with a similar or smaller size.
Basically less black space on the front.
To this day apple only offers larger phones or phones with still the same old form factor with the large bezels.
The 6s is still fast enough run all my apps flawlessly. And i don't need a better camera as i am not using it a lot anyway.
I understand that the new phones are more spec driven but i don't understand why Apple does not produce new phones that follow the internal specs with a modern exterior and instead still reuses five year old outdated exterior designs.

I strongly disagree. I understand and respect your wish for a small and compact phone with a fresh look that has the same size of the 6s.

The SE is a very worthy upgrade over the 6s. Now, you said you don't want a faster chipset or a better camera. So you don't need to upgrade your phone. Of course it's no upgrade if you don't want it to be an upgrade. For those people that want an actual upgrade to a newer phone with better features and performance, the SE is an actual upgrade. Even the regular 8 is a worthy upgrade if you have the 6s.

You seem to focus only on design and the bezels. What is more important to you? Form or Function? It's also rumored that Apple will release a 5.4" all-screen iPhone 12 (should have the same physical size as the current 4.7" models). Just 5 more months, i hope they don't get delayed.

Of course the design is dated, but it's 399$. And you get the latest chipset, camera, LTE bands etc...

I went from an iPhone 8 to the 11 Pro. I have very small hands and I don’t think the Pro is too big. I actually prefer its size to the 4.7 iPhone 8.

I also believe that the larger ‘Pro’ requires two handed usage for the most part anyways. Manipulating a Phone of that size is difficult one-handed, unless you’re just scrolling of course. Even when I own the iPhone SE, I found myself using it two-handed most the time for comfortability.

Side note:

You’re one of the only females on the iPhone forum amongst all these ‘tech guys’ that makes some really good Points about tech on here versus with all these guys. Props to you.

Out of curiosity, what does that gain you? My iPhone runs fast for weeks in a row without having to shutdown anything. It’s not even a recommendation on Apple’s side to shut down anything apart from troubleshooting.

I prefer a Plus sized iPhone in use and would continue buying the bigger variants going forward. There are a few occasions where it’s a complete pain in the backside though. Sitting down, especially getting in the car I find more often than not the iPhone wedges between the end of my pocket and my pelvis lol. I have to take it out my pocket before sitting down usually. Holding one of my daughters and trying to text or navigate on my phone is tricky also. When I’m out running I now don’t take my iPhone as it’s huge on my arm. I have a holder which is fine but the weight of the device is annoying on long runs. I now listen to amazon music on an old iPhone 5C which is perfect.

It does if you finance through Apple or if you’re on contract.
I don’t know what finance plans you get in your country but the 11 Pro Max is still £60-100 a month on contract or sim only with Apple leasing in the UK. It’s a significant purchase and even the spread out monthly cost is much higher than many alternatives. If you sort by cheapest it’s still £1489 over 24 months for the 64GB model. Compare that to the iPhone 11 and it’s around £500 more expensive. It’s not competitive unless you really have to stretch for something slightly better IMO.

IMO, the Xs Max is a worthy upgrade to the 6s. As a 6s user, that is the upgrade path I chose and don't regret. All of the upgrades; camera, screen, battery life etc. were to me a worthy successor to the 6s.

I notice a lot of people who don't like bigger phones have never actually really owned one and more just presumed they dislike them. If someone buys a bigger phone and realizes after some use they dislike it then fair enough; but for anyone on an older model who has never owned or used one, I think it is worth giving it a go and if you don't like it just get your money back. Now I've upgraded to a bigger phone I could never go back and I think it is the same for most people, which is why the market is the way it is.

I went with the 6+ first for two months before I gave up and downsized to the iPhone 6. Ended up giving the 6+ to my brother.

Neither my hands nor clothes pockets will increase in size so as far as physical dimensions, can't really go higher.

Wasn't this debunked? A 5.4" will have similar dimensions to the 4.7" phones - at least will be closer to the 4.7" in size than is shown here.

That's fair, and I think it'll be great if the 5.4 12 and the SE plus come to fruition. Because it'll mean apple will be finally catering for people who want small phones in the premium/modern design, and people who want a bigger phone but in the old school design.

That would depend on bezel size.

The 4.7" iPhone without any bezel is ~6.1" diagonal.

The 4" iPhone without any bezel is ~5.4" diagonal.

At 5.1mm bezels (same as XR), yes, it should be much closer to 4.7".

I replaced my 6splus with a new XR and I’m pretty happy with it — the only thing I don’t like is the lack of a Home button.

Bob, just curious - how did you adapt to the lack of a headphone jack? Did you use dongles everywhere? Buy new wireless headphones? For me, that's the largest issue. Thanks.

While there's no doubt the 6S was a BEAST when it came out, there's no doubt that by the time the 8 was released the writing was on the wall.

For the price of the new SE, I'd day the 6S is basically obsolete at this point.

I would not say obsolete, Apple still supports it, there are rumors that it will support iOS 14. Several of my family members still use in after replacing battery and it’s a workhorse for regular tasks. However I will be pushing them to update once it’s no longer supported (however I have noticed Apple has still released several security updates for older iOS 12 devices).

I'm still on a 6S but have gone the wireless headphones route, they are loads better not having wires hanging down to the phone whilst walking etc. Mine are small separate buds for each ear that have touch sensitive controls for doing things and have a charging case that doubles up as a power bank to charge things.

Agree 100%!

My SE still works fine, and (fingers crossed) will continue to do so in the future. Whilst it's slower compared to other newer iPhones, it still gets all the core tasks I do (call, text, social media, youtube, maps etc ect) done quickly enough for me.

What I wish the original SE had (which is sadly lacking in the new SE, and stops me from upgrading) and is a decent battery size; if Apple could get the same (or ideally larger) battery from the current 11pro into the rumoured 5.4" that would be brilliant!

I think I saw some headphones in the box that the new XR was shipped in. But, since i use hearing aids in both ears, I didn’t even take them out of the box. Take care of your hearing if you can...
