After using the Wifi version, do you still feel the need for 3G?

My wife got a WiFi only model and I had pre-ordered a 3G one for myself. After using hers, I still definitely want to get the 3G.

There have been a couple instances already where 3G would have been nice...once when we went to her mom's house, who has no WiFi and the other in the car once where she was trying to access something while I was driving.

Now I did just jailbreak her 3G iPhone and installed MyWi, which works great...but I don't like being stuck not being able to upgrade the firmware (I usually like to have the latest firmware) and two, I don't like that you have to go in an turn on the MyWi and then go into the iPad to connect it to. I want it to just work when I access the internet without having to worry about extra steps.

Good point, i guess i'll just pay the $30 a month. Life will be easier that way

I would like to jailbreak my iphone and use it for tethering with my ipad....JUst dont know how safe it is. Wow, would that make life simple.

What do you mean by "safe"? It can be password protected.

Just restore it. Do backups before you restore. You can repopulate from backup after restore.

It's really the unlocking that can make it tricky.

I tried that - but the overdrive was not stable So I'm returning all of it - iPad already went back...

Sure it is, you just have to disable the password protection so it doesnt keep kicking you out and asking for your pass over and over.

I agree iPhone mywi is so simple to use I'm good.

iPhone for mywi, calls, gps and messaging.

iPad wifi only model for everything else at $30 off my monthly service priceless

As long as my iPhone is jailbroken and can tether my 3G connection, the 3G iPad is redundant.
