Just reporting back here because AirOut 2 still gets a lot of use here in Big Sur 11.6. I always need to run it several times after a complete system startup (never after waking from sleep though). So far in Monterey I have not had to use it once yet. Granted I am working in Big Sur 99% of the time.

Nice!

If you need to run it several times, you might want to adjust the StressLevel and DelayAtLogin values.

@cdf I just want to give you some feedback. Thank you for providing an easy-to-use solution and this wonderful piece of utility!

Since I have switched to the Sapphire RX 580 Pulse, the racing fan has been driving me crazy. I was about to get ride of either the RX 580 Pulse or the MacPro5,1 ... I am using the AirOut's default settings. The MacPro and Mojave remains silent. ?:):)

is this nice app suppose to work on os monterey?

from my test It seems no to work as "Login Item"… it sends a notification wich reports:
"High fan speed detected" than the fans turn up but will only come down to around 1200 rpm for PCIe and PSU.

if I command+click on the app directly after system has booted and I then click on the notifications messages, it seems somehow to repeat the messages – wich reports something with benchmark, the current rpm(?) and the name of my gpu. finally it will spin up and down properly. (sorry for the vague info - I am away from my Mac right now)

any thing that I could check? I already tried to increase the delay to 90 seconds but to no avail…

The app needs to be updated for it to work as a login item in Monterey. I’ll address the issue when I get the chance.

AirOut 3 is now available. This version features a brand new icon and provides better Monterey compatibility!

Note: If you are using custom parameters, you'll want to enter

defaults delete com.airoutteam.AirOut

and then add the parameters again as described in post #1 (using the updated app identifier com.cdf.AirOut).

@cdf Thank you.

Does AirOut 3 still support macOS Mojave? I do get an error message “AirOut 3” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

same for me on Monterey 12.6.3…

The app should work in Mojave and later. This is just a Gatekeeper thing. I've re-uploaded the app so that the more familiar security message appears (see post #30), which allows for accepting the app in System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Alternatively, you can run the following command in Terminal after moving the app to the Applications folder:

xattr -cr /Applications/AirOut\ 3.app

While the main purpose of AirOut is to reset idle fan speed, the app is also useful in benchmark mode to easily visualize the notorious before-sleep bug:

Before.png
After.png
Before sleep
After sleep

So, remember to sleep and wake you Mac right before a GPU intensive task. You could be gaining 30% in performance!

You are right. I totally missed Gatekeeper. Just updated to AirOut 3. Great new icon design. I really appreciate your time and effort you spent into AirOut!!
