Am I the only one that doesn't see a big difference in the photos that @vinegarshots posted above? I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just not sure what it is I'm supposed to be seeing. They both look approximately the same to me.

If you look closely at the bottom photo, you can see that there are actually two meshes— one larger outer mesh, and underneath an even finer mesh with tiny holes. Now try to see that fine mesh in the top photo. It’s totally blocked off, and on some spots , the larger outer mesh is covered up as well. And again, that’s only one day use as well. I’ll probably do a one week update too, and I’m sure that will be REAL ugly. ?

I just got my own pair yesterday (and my wife a pair as well for herself) and tried them out for a few hours last night and today. Damn, they are nice! These are my first in-ear headphones in a long time, so maybe there's some bias there, but they sound fantastic to me and the ANC worked amazingly well in my morning (car) commute this morning. While still parked in the driveway, I had my defrost blasting. Put in my APPs and (with no music on yet), I turned on ANC and there was just.... silence. I had to turn ANC off again to make sure the defrost was still going! (This will be what I compare to after a week or two of use, to see if ANC stops working as well for me like some of you have described.)

Like @richard371 said above, the problem for some users is likely from oils on the fingers when taking the APPs out of the case, as well as ear oils, wax and skin flakes. Fingers may be the most likely culprit though. Is there any easier way to take them out of the case without having to tug at them with grimy fingers??
Use blue tac on the top of the pods to lift the pods out of the case may work

How you guys use it? You do that active thing by forming the stuff like in the description of the packaging?

Can confirm blu tac, when properly used, is great at reverting back the AirPods Pro to a clean state. Bone conduction is back to nonexistent after this cleanup.

It is clear to me that this is a really big hardware flaw and, although it’s probably affecting a small subset of users, it should have been spotted at an earlier stage of development. No firmware Update will ever fix this.

hope Apple will fix this in a future hardware update...

How do you properly use it? I tried some Scotch brand tack and it didn't make any difference.

you press it in a firm but not too hard on the black mesh (not the one visible from outside your ear) and you pull it off multiple times that way, moving around. You should see a clear imprint of the mesh on the blue tack after each press. Alsoyou may want to avoid pulling it off fast or hard so that it just unstick itself rather than pulling the grill.

Didn’t make any difference with my APP’s. It’s not a sure fix In my experience.

Mine have suddenly started failing the ear tip tests even with all ear tips. I tried cleaning them with alcohol wipes but still no luck. I thought I had some Blu-Tack at home but apparently I don't.

Do they sound bad? Are you unhappy with the ANC? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Alternatively, you could probably set up an appointment at the Genius Bar and get them replaced. I bet the replacements would eventually start failing the test, too.

I don't think they sound bad and still enjoy the sound coming from them. As for the ANC, I still am enjoying that as well.
I thought about setting up an appointment at the Genius Bar like you suggested but figured that if they gave me a replacement, it would probably be a refurb and like you said, it would probably fail the test as well.
I'm going to wait and see if it just might be a software related issue because when I first got them, they never failed the ear tips tests. If after another update and the issue persists, I'll probably give them to my wife.

Mine were failing the fit test every time now when they previously passed.have had the headphones for about a month now.

Used Blue tack to clean them. Now both sides pass the test. ANC sounds a little better. Bass sounds a lot better. And I feel like they are a little louder.

not a big deal if I have to clean them that way once a week... I know I have some waxy years.

That all being said. My noise cancellation works as good as it advertised. Music sounds good (not as good as my Sennheiser Momentum’s) and the call quality is fabulous which I use a ton.

I just wished I can pass the damned test lol.

And for those asking themselves why I’d get AirPods while having the Momentum’s true wireless..the battery drain issue became unbearable for me with the Momentum’s.

So they still sound good, the ANC works, and most importantly you're enjoying them, but because it's failing a stupid little software gimmick you're going to give them to your wife? Why? That doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Why don't you ignore the incredibly stupid fit test and just keep enjoying them?

You know, come to think of it, you’ve got a good point there!

For what it's worth, here is an update on my recent experiences with my AirPods Pro. Two weeks into owning my first pair, they were failing the "fit test" and bass response seemed minimized. Genuis at the Apple Store replaced them with a new pair, unopened box, no problem. They passed the test for about 3 weeks, then not at all. Oh well, whatever, they still sounded good and ANC and Transparency were good. The "thump" while walking was minimal. Within the past few weeks, there was a degradation in the effectiveness of the features the mics provide. More disturbing, the left pod began making a static-like noise when talking, with movement, and when touching the surface of the pod. The right one was fine. Chatted with Apple Support and was authorized to go to the Apple Store for testing and replacement. Today I did that. This time, rather than replace outright, the Genius ran a series of tests and tried new ear tips. Eventually it was determined that the left pod should be replaced. After pairing the two AirPods together once I got home, I could immediately tell a difference. ANC was improved and the left pod passes the "fit test" each and every time. The right one does not. Additionally, I can tell that the "thumping" sound is still audible on the right side but not the left. Because this has been so subjective and difficult to pin down, I've been particularly careful this time to be observant and aware of the conditions and differences. I don't know if I'll seek a replacement for the right one. If the Genius at the Apple Store had thought it needed to be replaced, he would have. Oh well, I'll use them and see how things are in a week or two. Cheers!

I believe there are 3 issues in total and that explains the varied experiences.

A firmware problem with the most recent issue that has been removed from the update server.

A driver blowing issue that results in the various screeches

The blocking of vents that causes the various air flow and microphone issues - the thump, reduced or varied ANC and reduced or varied ‘auto tuning’.

For those of you afraid of using Lock-Tite, I mentioned it to a Genius Bar person and he said they use it themselves. So no need to be afraid of it.

One thing I still can’t figure out is why it seems to be only the right ear people have issues with. Also, my two friends that also have AirPods Pro’s do not even have this issue. They’ve had theirs for two months and still pass the fit test with no issue.

I keep my ears pretty clean, so why do I have the issue yet they don’t? That’s what I don’t get. I know it’s clogging that’s causing it as blue tak/lock-tite works. But why always the right ear and why is this not something everyone has an issue with? ?

My right ear bud doesn’t pass the fit test but, the anc and music sound good.

It’s a bit subtle. I have a feeling a lot of people just can’t tell. For me, it feels like pressure between ears being out of balance. I can especially hear it when the ANC switches off for the fit test.

I can confirm, after getting some Blu-Tack this morning and cleaning the APP's, that they're now repeatedly passing the ear tip tests.
