Totally agree, you're getting disappointed because they're simply exaggerating. Quick test, just put their airpods pro and realize it will sound just the way your pair sounds. I just tested this with a friend and it's the same.

Totally agree, you're getting disappointed because they're simply exaggerating. Quick test, just put their airpods pro and realize it will sound just the way your pair sounds. I just tested this with a friend and it's the same.
My APP’s (bought at launch) ANC is just slightly less effective than my Bose QC35’s, even less effective than my Sony WH1000MX3 over ear, very close to my Bose QC20’s in ear and better than my Sony WF1000MX3’s in ear. Mine came with the release day software 2B584 then then updated to 2B588 . They’re currently on 2C54 software and working perfectly.
Well I am just back from a Genius Bar appointment. I was complaining about the degraded ANC, I have used original, 88 and now the C firmware. Conclusion is wait for a Firmware update. There is nothing physically wrong with my APP and she thinks the next update should correct the problems.
Guess I have to wait.

UPDATE: managed to finally connect the replacement units. They now both sport 2B588 (the newest update seems to have bern pulled by Apple).
Fit test is now passed (green) and ANC seems back to normal. It’s an hardware problem.

So it’s not 2B588 then and it’s hardware rather then firmware. I guess the real validation is for someone with ANC issues on 2B588 to walk into the Apple store and try a new set. If there a difference then it confirms your story.
I may do this today for piece of mind. My son is running the same firmware and raves about the ANC. I could try his too.
Someone’s gonna make these for sale.

Now that procedure and product looks much easier than the video I posted.
Question @Jutah , I assume the foam layer add some size. I use the large tips now. Did you find that you had to go down a size with the foam? Also, does your case close correctly with the large tips and foam if you are using the large tips?
I think going into all productions, there are levels and degrees to the performance of a feature. It's never very binary in it's answer. ANC has never been able to block out all the noise, it does a good job in elimination a large percentage of noise and engineers look at the performance of their design through a quantitative value.

I used the large foam with large tips and medium tips and both fitted inside the case with no issues
you don’t need to go downsizing. When I ordered I was using M tips, so i order the M size. Then I switched to S that I found better.
well, the M fits pretty well even in the S size.
answering to your second question:with the large I suppose you should apply a little force but that’s just an assumption because I’ve never tried it.
I’m looking forward to place an order for the S size.

pros: great ANC.
cons: you loose the lightweight sensation of the original tips. Think that after an hour or so it may be heavy to wear. Dunno.
Tomorrow I will be in a big Apple store and I will do some test with the demo unit,obviously without mod. On the first instance i wanted to buy a 2nd pair, do some tests and keep the better one.
but - excluding the inner hook that has a minor grip - my unit has no issues, so i think that it does not worth it.

I ordered from eBay, they were shipped from uk and they required 2 weeks to be delivered in Italy.
So you are saying the Noice Cancellation on your APP they way it was on the first day when you bought it which had firmware 2B584 and now even after updating to Firmware 2B588 the ANC sounds the same ? YOu are saying there is no difference in the ANC between then and now ? is that what you are syaing ? That there is no degradadtion in ANC ?

Test #1: on the train. ANC works well, it stops maybe 70 % of white noises but this is the easiest scenario. ANC gives its best with white noises.With 55% volume i kill every external sound.
I will update my post in few hours with other tests.
note: with the Symbio Mod Tips I’m having a 10/15% improve of noise canceling.

tried 2 different demo unit and they where slightly better than mine. The voice of the girl talkin in front of me was a bit more muffed with the demo unit. But in the rush and few minutes you have to do the comparison i don’t know how much my words are objective.
both the demos had the 2C54, exactly like mine.
So it’s not software related issue guys.
I didn’t swapped because don’t want to play the lottery (battery, mic quality and so on) and honestly I didn’t find a day/night difference with the demos.
I have 11 day more to make the return, so I will see: in the meanwhile I’m using the modded version, that have the strongest anc ever tried.
Ps: I admit that if I hadn’t tried another unit I’ve never noticed this.
