So you are saying the Noice Cancellation on your APP they way it was on the first day when you bought it which had firmware 2B584 and now even after updating to Firmware 2B588 the ANC sounds the same ? YOu are saying there is no difference in the ANC between then and now ? is that what you are syaing ? That there is no degradadtion in ANC ?
[automerge]1578551495[/automerge]

Absolutely no change in anc or sound since purchase.

I tried a new pair that came with firmware 2B588 and ANC is identical to 2C54. Hoping and honestly expecting the RTINGS.com re-test to plainly show that ANC was reduced from the original firmware.

There is much debate about APP, ANC and firmware versions, but independent of all that, ANC with earbud style headphones is never going to block out all outside noise. Over ear will block out more, but even those don't block out everything. It's just not how ANC works.

ANC in earbuds or on ear or over ear will never block out 100% of Boise especially noises that are random like people talking which frequencies spike. Noises with a more consistent frequency range is much easier to block out like a airplane and etc.

The only way they block out nearly all noise is with music or audio playing.

Apple nerfed and please update your reviews. AirPods pro hasn’t anc anymore.

“ After updating to Firmware 2C45, we retested the headphones and our results showed a fairly significant drop in isolation performance, primarily in the bass-range. This means that with ANC turned on, these headphones won't do nearly as good a job blocking out the low engine rumbles of planes or buses as they did before this update. This review reflects these changes.”

Is 2C45 available anymore? Mine are still 2B588 and have been plugged in next to my iPhone for the past month

This is incorrect. Go learn about destructive interference.

ANC can work without music playing. I do this 3-4 times a week at home with my AirPods Pro when the gardening crew are outside my unit or around the swimming pool with their leaf blowers.

You can do the same with over-the-ear ANC headphones like the Sonys or Bose. No requirement to play music.

Note that some vehicles have ANC. The Japanese started this with ANC using the car's stereo system to cancel out passenger compartment road and engine noise. It is designed not to cancel out music or conversation, etc.

Airplane in-flight entertainment systems often have ANC headphones, more frequently in the first class and business class cabins. The complimentary headphones offered for in-flight use have a second prong to provide this functionality. Again, you can put these headphones on for noise reduction without playing any music or listening to the entertainment system's offerings. The ANC is always active.

Go ahead. Take public transit and put on your APP. They will provide ANC even before you press play.
I didn’t say anc wouldn’t work without audio playing, of course it will. My Bose and Sony anc headphones as well as my APP’s block noise with just anc on. No anc headphones will block out all noise period. I was stating you must play audio to not be able to hear outside noises. Read what I said carefully.

So Idk I had a problem that my left airpod drained much more battery than the right one. Apple told me to reset my AirPods which I did. The NC is now much worse with the 2B588. I hear nearly no differents between NC on and off. Nice ...

This could be the issue that’s mentioned in another thread, where one AirPod’s battery reading suddenly drops, misleading the user to think it’s flat, when it’s not actually - it’s just the reading.

If you were only using them for a short time, & one (or both) show a low battery, then chances are it’s a bug that we’re hoping will be addressed in the next firmware update.

After resetting the battery is okay again but the NC seems to be worse

I've noticed (now that I use these more often) that low exhaust notes seem to be amplified. I notice the car coming and it seems that I can hear it clearly even when it has passed. Almost like it's being mixed in to the music.

I’ve noticed this on my AirPods Pro, should I contact Apple? Is this normal?

Yes. No. :)

Since I got them in Jan 2020 I've had them replaced twice for the same issue. I've tried cleaning them as per Apple's instruction and also tried the blu-tack stuff. Didn't seem to help.

In Noise Reduction mode? I’d guess that what’s really happening is that other frequencies are reduced to the point where you’re more able to more easily discern the lower frequencies that are being transmitted through your bones?

Yes. But it's different than that. It's almost as if the headphones detect the ambient noise, and instead of negating it it amplified it.

the result was music with exhaust sound (like a tuner car) mixed into it.

Just trying to figure out whether I should be hearing no outside noise or whether some is acceptable when in noise cancellation mode. There is a dramatic difference between transparency and noise cancellation, but I can still hear outside noise at low volume when in noise cancellation mode.

I bought these for my son and I also got a pair. When I hear him rave about noise cancellation and how it blocks out the outside noise completely, I wonder if mine are working correctly. The fit is perfect in terms of the tips. Let me know what you think. As an example, I can hear the music at the gym when playing music at low volume on my AP's.

I changed my tips for a set of memory foam ones, more for comfort than anything else. But I noticed a marked increase in ANC performance when I switched as well.

Obviously that’s down to the better fit I’m getting in my ears and the better isolation that’s coming from that. But for the small cost I definitely recommend them.

Did the same thing. All good with the memory foam tips.

I too picked up memory foam tips (the ones from Comply). They feel great in my ears, and I'm not constantly fiddling with position of them. The weird thing for me is the constantly fail the Apple fit test, yet to my ears the ANC seems a lot better with the foam tips, despite them failing the fit test.

Mine pass the test every time. My experience when they stop passing the test is when one or both are becoming defective. I am on my third set in a year compliments of AppleCare+. I don't think the longevity of APP's is going to be great. They all developed distortion before replacing. Minor but annoying. Maybe this is the issue Apple just solved.

On the foam tips, the only thing I have to watch out for is when I put them in the case, make sure they are connected and charging. You want to look for a one blink of the light for each when you seat it. No blink, no charge and they will connect to your phone and die. I use large foam tips and I need to ensure a proper seat. I have made this a practice.
