Well, actually they're making them. Apple and most probably every other western company have their products produced and assembled in China to cut costs. Only a fool would think the Chinese stick to their role as dumb and cheap assembly slaves. In fact, there are quite a lot high quality, high innovation products now coming from China.

You are a wise man

I would rather buy from AliExpress. The Pod thingie seems to be no more than one of the earlier tws models, but you can't be sure which one.
I bought these and find them rather impressing:

Waiting for them to break. So far, they are working great. Next one's will surely be original AirPods but for just trying out if they work for me, they are really good.

Yes, but I think it's more likely they sell an older version of the clones that don't have real battery window or in ear detection. The i10000 do have both and it's working. There are even newer versions that have some kind of "find my"-integration. No idea how this works but it's interesting.

I've come across these ones which look 100% identical to the official ones but at a fraction of the cost :

Anybody had any experience with these?

Well, I finally received my Pods (these were the i12 TWS versions which supposedly, are the closest clones to Apple’s official Airpods, according to the many YouTube reviews I’ve seen of the i12 TWS Pods).

Have to say, these are a complete waste of money and totol TRASH so would advise people to NOT order from The Pod Store dot com.......

These are all the issues I have with them:

• They feel cheap – they weigh significantly less than the official Airpods
• When pairing, both the pods flash red and blue lights (nothing to signify what the red light means nor what the blue light means!) which makes them look like a cheap Christmas tree decoration!
• When listening to music/watching a video, if you pause the media for longer than say 5 seconds, the Pods disconnect.
• When listening to music/video, the slightest touch to the stems or main area of the pods causes the media to pause. You can ONLY unpause it by touching the screen and NOT via the Pods themselves.
• When you have finished your session and put them back in the charging case (where they start to flash again!!!), they remain connected to your device. You can ONLY disconnect via the Bluetooth settings on your iPhone/iPad.
• The slightest touch to the charging case (with Pods inside) causes the Pods to commence playing random media from your device (I was watching a video on my iPad ,with the sound coming out the iPad, when my son then touched the charging case. The sound then stopped from my iPad and continued in the Pods INSIDE the charging case?!?!?!)

I knew they were cheap and knew what I was getting I guess but wasn’t prepared to see all of the above issues (and I had to wait TWO WEEKS for delivery from China to the UK:rolleyes: !) !

Time to get the real McCoy then from Apple……..!

You should have gotten the i10000 like I said ;-)
They don't have the mentioned issues. The i90000 even work with "Find my" and have the same configuration options in bluetooth settings like the original ones ;-)

My personal opinion:
i10000 better sound and mic, i90000 better features (find my, settings)

I ordered one of these clones before (older model, black colored) - unless you have them in your hand, it was a complete scam. the onles i got, looked less in quality, the plastic was cheap, the sound only worked on 1 bud. There was no wireless charging. It was such a mess, i asked for a refund on the site.

Buy at your own risk. If it works out, good for you.

is the serial number still a good way to check authenticity? Box, case, and iPhone settings?

Why are people buying fake AirPods from China instead of the real thing? If it's the price, there are legit buds out there that are miles better than this crap. If it's to make you look 'cool' then you probably should rethink your lives.

How do you know, have you tested?
I bought them for fun. I thought I'd have a good laugh and then never think about them again.
However, they turned out to be really working. Microphone quality is nice, they charge wirelessly, my phone did recognize them immediately and the bluetooth reach is quite a lot. So, now I don't know why I should buy the real ones for 160 Euros more than the knock offs were?

Most probably the same. Don't forget the AirPods are also fabricated in China. Chances are they are just using the same manufacturer (nope, Apple is also just buying parts or licensing contractors to produce stuff for them. Apple does not manufacture parts themselves).

They like their data hacked I guess.

I think Apple may use cheap batteries in their earphones. The batteries in my first gen AirPods degraded very quickly and badly. By contrast, the batteries in my Jabra Elite 65T had not noticeably degraded in 9 months of almost daily use and the earphones last almost as long as when they were new.

Time will tell on the APP. I recommend Apple Care+.

Won't they warranty them within the first year regardless of Applecare?
