I have a pair of "no name" completely wireless, sweat proof, bluetooth 5.0 earbuds I use for working out. 6 hour battery life and can recharge in it's case 2-3x for less than $50 . For everything else I have my airpods.

I'd like to get the beats but the past models have a history of breaking and or not being that sweat proof. Crazy expensive price tag.

I have a pair of first gen AirPods and looking to upgrade. Was just gonna get the AirPods 2 but now I’m undecided between this and the Powerbeats Pro.

The 9 hr usage time and sweat resistant aspects tempt me. But the case looks massive and won’t fit in my jeans pockets. I’ve also read that the Powerbeats 3 were prone to breakdown and not sweat resistant at all.

For those who are still on the fence, which one are you gonna get and why?

Some comparison articles:

I bought AirPods 2 and was looking forward to the power matt. Oh well. Hugely disappointed Apple decided not to release anything. I believe a compromise could have been made. I do like the new AirPods. Wireless charging is great! I'll order the new Beats as soon as they make them available. If they sound better, last longer, can make calls, and in general, are better, I say get them. They aren't wireless charging though, and they are larger. The nice thing about AirPods is that the whole case is around the size of dental floss. Everyone I know thought that little case was dental floss until I opened it and headphones popped out. The case is so small it just fits in your jacket pocket no problem. That's a pretty big deal. If that matters.

Size of the case is the only thing I see myself regretting about Powerbeats Pro vs Airpods.

This.

I think both excel in different use cases. I've gotten airpods 2 and will be getting the pros when they come out.
Exactly, if I’m doing something that situational awareness will stop me from getting squashed AirPods, if sound isolation is ok then the pros.

I really feel the Pro's are a total game changer. Based on hands-on reviews alone, everyone has made a point to say how great they sound. The on-bud touch controls for each individual bud are going to be very easy to use (volume rocker plus hard press the sides for controls). And I think the ear hooks really help in balancing the weight of the buds themselves so they don't simply sit in your ear with no weight distribution. Plus, if accurate, a 9 hour battery life per charge is astonishing. Sets a new bar for truly wireless.

Obviously the case won't work for everyone if you want to carry them frequently in your front pockets. And wireless charging really would have been appreciated by us all. But aside from that, I see no flaws here.

Me too! I was going to get the AirPods 2 but reading reviews and other forum posts made me wanna wait til May and try out the PB Pro first.

I got the AirPods 2 as soon as they released but this was mostly because I wanted the power matt. The feature I wanted from the power matt was that the iPhone shows the power level of each device on the matt. What Apple could do is release a power matt with three specific locations for the three devices. It wouldn't be anywhere on the matt as they wanted, but the matt was so small it's not like you had a lot of real estate to be anywhere on the matt anyway. And I mostly wanted both the convenience of one matt for three devices and the power level being displayed. Apple could compromise a little on this. I think the problem is that Apple has egg on their face. Had they never publically talked about it in the first place, they might do my compromise internally and then show off the product when ready. Three devices, one matt, display for the power levels. Only three coils would be needed. Heat problem would be solved.

I think of PowerBeats 3/4 as head phones for working out/running or other strenuous physical activity and AirPods 1/2 for all other times (maybe occasionally for working out/running).

If you only use your head phones for working out/running, then I would get PowerBeats, if not I would go for AirPods.

Pure speculation at this point, but when do you reckon the Powerbeats Pro will be available to order? I’ve been refreshing the store most days, probably a waste of time given it might be end of April at the very earliest though.

I purchased the Gen 2’s and wish I would have known these would be coming out, I may have held off. I like my Airpods, however after extended use, they start to hurt in my ears. I feel the beats, with the silicone tips, will be much more comfortable. I still may get them.

We've been told simply 'May' by Apple. That could be anytime in May. Don't expect to be able to purchase anytime before May 1st at the earliest.

Good point. It’s just I’ve fond memories of, by chance, checking the Apple store at 1406 UK time whichever day the AirPods came up for preorder. Got them before Xmas that year and before the drought. Dunno if there’ll be same demand for these, no clue tbh, but I know I want them.

My guess is the demand won't be the same and you'll be able to purchase day one with no issues.

With the price of $250, I would agree. That’s getting up there. On the flip side, 9 hours battery life is pretty good, plus silicon ear pads. As I type this my ears are sore from wearing AirPods. $250 is still a pretty big pill to swallow though.

I have the PowerBeats X, that I use for running. They’re good, but AirPods 2 sound much better.

Im still scarred by the airpower debacle - them saying May is making me suspicious May 2019...2020?

"After much effort we have concluded Powerbeats Pro will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project"

One has nothing to do with the other. The Pro's are definitely coming out in May. It's just annoying how vague that is. When exactly in May?

Im well aware one has nothing to do with the other. My comment was meant to be satirical in nature.

The PowerBeats Pro are listed in the Apple store but you can't add them to your cart yet so I am assuming they will be there in May.
