I just got my airpods, and the audio is amazing through iPhone but when I use my MacBook to listen to them the audio is crap, seriously awful. Is it just me or anyone has the same issue?

It's the compression. Look around you need to go into Terminal and turn off the power save bluetooth format so you can get AAC. Been an OSX issue for over 10 years.

Holy **** I ****ing love these.

Sound quality is almost (95% there) as good as the Sennheiser earbuds I've had for the last three years and none of the inconvenience of wires to boot.

I also don't see how anyone could lose these. You paid $160 for them; grow up and take a little bit of responsibility already.

Got my Airpods yesterday and i am impressed of the size of these things. I have however one issue with them, when i am on a phone call i get some crackling and popping sounds, this only occurs when i am on the phone and not while i listen to music.

I see that i am not alone however i am unsure if this is a common issue or not, i see some mentioning #PoppingGate
My friend mentioned yesterday that we don't have any "gates" yet for AirPods ;)
I've experienced pops and drops (#POPANDDROPGATE !) mainly while listening from my Mac mini. It also feels like switching between devices is not easy for me but that could be just that I haven't gotten the hang of it. Sounds silly I know. Still have only occasionally gotten them to show in my battery widget.

Hi all,

I have a question about the battery case of the AirPods. I used approximately my airpods during 4 hours (4 x 1 hour). When I put my AirPods in the case they have 80% battery remaining. I saw that my battery case use 15% of battery to charge the airpods from 80% to 100%.
Today my case is at 45% whereas I used only 4 hours my airpods! It seems very low!
Do you have the same case battery consumption?

I believe they referenced an old problem, that has since been fixed. I've never experienced dropouts on my SE, using BT earphones daily since I got it. Have been using the AirPods throughout the day with the SE since Wednesday, and no problems at all (in or out of pockets).

Thanks for the info. I might take my AirPods/iPhone into Apple in a couple of weeks to check on them. I have noticed my SE was very poor at GPS compared to my previous 6 so perhaps mine has issues.

I have the same issue with Powerbeats 3 (same W1 chip) and it's because I have an older Mac with an older version of Bluetooth.

Try reseting the Bluetooth module: Hold down shift+option and click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar. Select Debug -> Reset Bluetooth Module.

There are other potential fixes, including adjusting the bitpool value for Bluetooth. Try Googling for other possible solution or ask around here.

E: I have Late 2010 MBA. Works without issues except that when I want to connect them to the Mac I have to do it through the Bluetooth menu. I think on Macs that have Bluetooth LE, AirPods should always appear in the Audio menu. I might be wrong on that though.

My AirPods or phone threw a fit earlier! I used Siri - who didn't hear anything I said and seemed to freeze, then the playback started through my phone speaker and the AirPods had disconnected. I had to eventually try and turn off Bluetooth - which wouldn't turn off! I restarted my iPhone and then disconnected the AirPods and then reconnected. Seemed to work after that with no issues!

Just received my AirPods. Ordered them from Apple, but they weren't going to be here until January. I ordered some from Best Buy, which arrived today. They sound great and they seem to pair easily. Overall, I love them!

Isn't the Bluetooth showing at the top of your MacBook? The option to connect air pods should be there

Like mine for example

Awesome so that's where i go. I was going through System Preferences, Thanks

are you by chance using wifi calling, I've found I can hear the wifi calling artifacts much more clearly now - they were always there but the earbuds didn't really bring them to life.

I have been using wifi calling. I'll try turning that off, thanks for the suggestion!

Quick question. I have my AirPods connected to my iPhone and iPad. You know the pop-up information window that appears when you open AirPod case-that shows battery level? It always appears on my iPhone but never my iPad-even when listening to music from iPad. Is this the way it is with everyone else? It would be handy to know battery levels when iPhone isn't around.

Thanks!

Thanks, works perfect now.

That's because the iPad doesn't have the W1 chip in it

Here is the other problem I am having:

Well, I have them paired to four devices, and frankly I think it is part of the problem I'm having with disconnects. I think the behavior of the W1 chip with near bluetooth devices and it essentially activates them when say the lip is opened. I continue to have a problem with the phone disconnecting when my ipad is near, and also when my laptop is near. I'm going to try and drop the connections from all those devices, and see if the random drops from my iphone stop. Either on calls or when streaming. It's a bit annoying at the moment, as there really isn't any indication why it occurs and what to do about it - fix wise.
I'm actually having my iPhone 7plus replaced because of this. Mine stutters like your walking out of range from my phone even though it's right next to them. Sometimes get dropouts that last 3-5 seconds. I used the AirPods with my iPad last night and didn't have a single hiccup with the connection, and I remember that the 7 series had this issue at first with Bluetooth, so hopefully this resolves it. No reason they should be flawless with my iPad but not my iPhone.

The battery levels should be visible in the battery widget on the iPad.

I went for my first run with the AirPods this morning. It was 30 degrees so I was wearing a balaclava and stocking hat. I was still able to double tap the AirPods and give voice commands even though my mouth and the AirPod was totally covered by fabric.

The bad news is I had the audiobook that I was playing stop two times during the run. Each time I was able to take the phone and push play again and the audio continued. I assume that this was related to the cold temperatures, but we'll see. They work fine under normal (in the house, warm) conditions.
I am having the same problem when listening to audiobooks.

The AirPods stop after about 20 minutes of playing an audiobook. I don't think it is a temperature issue as I am in Australia where it is summer here and the temperature has been 30 degrees celsius (about 86F).

It was also dropping out whilst in my air conditioned office too.

Are you still experiencing problems with audiobooks?

Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised by the AirPods. Ordered them to see what they were like and impressed since Monday. Used to use bluebirds X and they were good but had the annoying problem of having to adjust the wire connecting them to be comfortable every time I put them on. Was a bit doubtful about the AirPods as EarPods used to fall out all the time plus I thought the sound from EarPods was bad. But to my pleasant surprise the AirPods not only sound good but don't drop out my ear (suspect due to the lack of a wire catching or weighing them down). Overall very impressed. Upside ease of use. Downside not enough playback control but since I have an Apple Watch this isn't a problem without which I could see how it could be. Sound wise if your looking for perfect sound buy expensive over ear cans, you'll never get perfect from in ear so don't try.but for in ear I've got to give them credit they're better than EarPods and just as good as the jay birds.

I was a bit weary of the audio as well. I've rarely had good Bluetooth experiences. I like these a lot though.

I suppose I am swapping getting tangled up in EarPod chords with an early morning search for AirPods amongst my sheets. I will be able to leave my iPhone on my nightstand though.

Try putting a strip of tape across each ear to hold them in! Lol

Or maybe a headband? ;-)

Nope. The W1 chip is only in the AirPods. Even the iPhone 7 doesn't have a W1 chip.

My bad. I thought I read somewhere that was the case. Never honestly looked into to it much. What is it then that prevents the pop up and easy pairing with say an iPad, or even the 6s?

So 5 hr battery life, got it. But if I wear them for 1 hr and say it's down to 90%, when I'm done and put them back in the case, does the case charge them again automatically?

Meaning toe buds are always at 100% when taking them out of the case? And always draining the battery case? Or do you oust the button on the back of the case when ready to charge the buds?

They charge when you put them back in the case. The button on the back is to pair the AirPods to a different device.
