I have the OG pros and I think it is a worthy upgrade. That said, my OG pros are working and meeting my needs so until they die, I am just rolling with it lol. Still rolling with my 256gb 11 pro max too, lmao. The battery is at 81% and in the official apple battery case and it works too well still, won’t be seeing a new phone for at least a year, two, three? damn you apple for making things that last and supporting them so well!!!😆🍺

The sound and ANC is considerably better. Same song switch between gen, no question about it.

I had the Sony WF ear buds, 2 generations with and they sounded great but didn’t stay in my ears. The air pods just stay in better. The Gen 1 doesn’t has as good of sound as the Sony but it’s close. The Gen 2 are more full and dynamic like the Sony.

If I had to give an answer now, I'd say if your APP Original are still working satisfactorily (no crackling, batteries are okay, ANC hasn't faded beyond what was caused by firmware updates, etc) then it's probably not worth upgrading until a problem occurs.

So far I'm a little underwhelmed, but I haven't used them for very long. I took one call and then spent a few minutes playing with ANC & Transparency Mode. The ANC is noticeably better, but it's a slight improvement, not a huge difference. The tips do seem to fit more securely in my ears, but that could just be because they're fresh out of the package. Transparency Mode is definitely improved and sounds significantly more natural than the original APP.

That said, the increased battery life and swipe volume control will be very nice. I've used the volume control on them and it's quite useful. I'll update this if my opinion changes once I've had more time with them.
I've had a few more days to evaluate and compare, including on a 2.5 hr walk/run, and most of what I said remains accurate, however I have to upgrade my opinion of the ANC. It's not just a slight improvement, it's a fairly significant improvement.

Over the weekend I used them while near an airport and much closer to the roads than my initial comparison. The ANC difference is actually significant. In the same scenario with the first generation APP, I'd periodically have to rewind audiobooks or podcasts to re-listen to parts I missed due to environmental noise, and sometimes pump up the volume a bit. Not once the case with these, and I was able to keep the volume at a lower level than on the originals (about 60% of max on the originals, about 40% of max on the 2nd generation). The ANC isn't "perfect," I could still hear things going on around me like approaching traffic and even bikes, but it is a significant improvement over the originals.

I still don't think it's worth $250 to upgrade if your original AirPods Pro are still working well for you. But if you find the ANC on the originals isn't as good as you'd like, it may be worthwhile for you, especially if you're often listening to media while in noisy areas.

People who have upgraded is it worth it?
The noise cancellation is so much better its the same experience all over again as when first trying the first gen. I would also love the find my feature because I spend lots of time looking for my first gen. At the moment find my is not working at all for me though.

I would not upgrade the main issue with the 1st gen is still not fixed the mic. Try making a phone call with any background noise. Nobody wants to talk to you anymore. All the background noise will get amplified to the caller. Besides that they are great in ears but if u want to use it for calls it is a totally fail

Use mine for calls all day and all over the place without issue. What other mic are you comparing them to?

well just do a voice memo recording and for instance while cooking or doing something in the background. You will hear a lot of background noise in your recordings. Nobody wants to hear that in a call. For instance if I am using my Plantronics bluetooth voyager headset you don't hear anything at all from background noise

When I got my APP2 I did a microphone test with the APP1 and 2. Using voice memo, i recorded each AirPods with background TV noise, running water in the kitchen sink and crumpling up a chips/crisps bag.

The APP1 let too much of those noises through the but the APP2 completely blocked the TV and chip bag and reduced the water noice to a minor background level. I would say that they have significantly improved the ANC on the microphones and I don’t expect to have problems anymore.

Conflicting opinions here so can a fewmore people do a self recording test and let us know your feedback on ANC capability with the microphones? That would be my sole determining factor to upgrade or not

Thank you

why should I be trolling. I had the app1 for about 2 years and I like them besides the known mic issue. You can even find some post of me about this 1-2 years ago. I upgraded not only because of the mic issue but also because of a new fresh battery. Didn't expected much. So far I like the app2. BUT the thing with the mic in comparison to other mics it is definitely not fixed.

Ok after some more testing. It seems the mic is to some degree better. But it is far from "good" for example if u take a chips bag crumpling first you will hear the sound on the recording very loud but then after 1-2 sec it is more or less filtered out. You can still hear it but more in the background. I will do some more testing tomorrow out in the city and calling some friends

No. If your APP 1 breaks I would put the money towards APP 2 instead of replacing the battery, repairing, etc.

It's not a $250 upgrade over APP 1, nor is it a $100 upgrade if you sell your APP 1 beforehand. Get them if you really want the slightly better bass response, battery life, and volume on stem controls.

Dude - stand behind the yellow line lol... if the ANC really is better you'll never hear the crazies coming up behind you to push you on the tracks...

From someone else who spends lots of time on the subway there 🤘

I may be out of practice taking the train after the past few years, but I always stand against a sign or wall so nobody can sneak up behind me. And ANC goes on when the train doors close. Nobody wants to find their quality listening experience disrupted by getting pushed onto the tracks...

Soundguys published their review today with proper testing and APP 2 seem shockingly better. Makes me wonder if their pair of APP1 was defective. The pro 2 are almost as good as the max!

Is the fit improved with the 2nd gen as the 1st gens refuse to stay in my ears?

My ears are very picky with fit. I run and bike a lot. While running I sweat like a pig so yesterday took my AirPod Pro 2s for a 8 miles run. I put COMPLY foam tips in all my earbuds, including the AirPod Pro 2s. I'm gladly informing that during the 8 miles run, I had to push them in not even one time. They stayed inside rock solid during the whole 8 miles run. I also got a pair of Beats Fit Pro to compare, and those are going back. They are just too uncomfortable, even with COMPLY foam tips.

I bought the APP2 yesterday. Having been using the OG APP for well over 2yrs now with foam tips (very similar to the Comply). Right away I moved the foam tips to the APP2. I thought the upgrade was quite underwhelming, didn't really hear much of an improvement in sound quality. Then I remember reading an article somewhere here stating that the OG APP tips have a more dense mesh, so I put on the new tips from the APP2 back on and right away I noticed crisper and deeper sound.

Then, for fun, I put the APP2 tips onto my OG APP, and I *think* the sound was more crisp. I honestly don't know if I'm hearing things. @enricoclaudio do you care to switch out your Comply tips to the new tips your APP2 came with and see if you notice a difference?

I did and I get a bit more bass with the COMPLY tips due to a much better fit/seal. Not to mention that I can wear them for hours without any pain. I always have two pairs of earbuds with me because sometimes I ride for more than 6 hours so a second pair allows me to not stop the music while recharging. I'm right now on the way to get my second pair of AirPods Pro 2 ;)

I received the APP2 yesterday (been using APP1 since a day 1 purchase in 2019). There is no doubt the sound profile is much more full and dynamic. The bass is almost unbelievable and may be the single biggest improvement. These have some oomph even at low volume and will please for hip hop and r and b if that's your cup of tea. ANC improvements are less significant and I don't believe they match the APP1 ANC that was almost overwhelmingly strong and then subsequently weakened with several firmware updates. Transparency continues to be class leading but probably the mode I use least.

On the downside I get hints of very brief static or distortion every now and then across music platforms. Will hope it is resolved via firmware updates.

Overall a worthy upgrade that will make most people happy.

APP1 from day 1. Love them. Noise cancellation was the best before the firmware updates! Even after APP2. But the sound improvement, volume swipe is awesome.

Still need to buy ear tips. luckily my usual airfoams pro active ear tips work with my APP2 too.

One thing though is the ear hooks doesn't work since the top speaker was added. Oh well.

I say it's a good upgrade! Not GREAT, but REAlly good.
