Well, it never ever occurred to me to try moving the top on the charging case like this - not with my AirPods 1, AirPods 2, or AirPods Pro. So, was surprised that mine do this. But ignorance is bliss, so I'll just go back to using them like before and pretend it doesn't do this, and then I'll still be happy with them.

My OG Airpods also has some play with the lid but it's quiet, but APP makes lots of clicking noise when I pick it up it gets kind of annoying.

The movement on my case has gotten marginally more noticeable with use, but I still see it as just a reality/shortcoming of the design. If it gets worse for anyone, that is what a warranty is for, and given the amount of use the hinge will see in the warranty period, we will easily see if this is actually a problem or just an OCD tick. Enjoy the headphones!

My first pair didn’t have this issue. I changed it for another pair due to a defect of assembly on one airpod, and the case of the new ones has a noticeable play.

i don’t think it’s worth to change them again, considering that a lot of people seem to experience the same according to this pool...

i only hope it won’t get worse with time

Thats what happened to mine to the point where the hinge at the back dislodged. Luckily I was in the two week window so I returned them and my new Pro's are due tomorrow. If the top of the case is loose on the new set and get worse, I will send them straight back

I returned mine 2 weeks ago for these very issues. Local Apple store is sold out so new ones are on preorder. Hopefully Apple has fixed this by now with the current ones shipping.

So my AirPods 2 also do this, and I think 1/10th of an inch of play is normal. Can't check the AirPods 1 since I gave them to my son, and if I mention this to him he will get all OCD over it.

Exactly. These are my everyday use. I carry them in my pocket all the time. I carry keys and other stuff and the case get's scuffed and scratched. So what! That's what the case is there for. To protect and charge my APP's. And it's so small and convenient. Time to move on ...

I returned my Apple Store pair when I was able to order from Costco. Not even a little worried about this. Enjoy the headphones! We all have warranties and can get new cases at any time during that period, should this become an actual issue (e.g., just as @Bazooka-joe experienced).

Well my replacement Pro's have arrived and the case is still a little loose. Not to the extent of the last one though so I am going to live with it and see how it goes. I have a couple of cases on order. I upgraded to the latest firmware which only took 2 minutes. One thing that i did which was a little naughty was when i sent my AirPods back for replacement , I didn't send back the large tips as they were giving me a perfect seal. Didn't seem to bother Apple, so i now have several pairs of large tips.

My case does the same, I don’t care much about this, yesterday when I was cleaning AirPods, just found a crack between microphone and stem, when it was new it’s nearly impossible to see, but it will become black line after it’s dirty, I thought it was seam but other one no such line, I never dropped them, been very careful. I went to Apple store this morning, since it’s out of 14 days window, store manager made an exception to exchange a new one, I checked new one on spot couldn’t find any defects, good service, but guys be careful, check your AirPods, case for new one is better but still moves a bit

Mine doesn't click left or right, but it won't close 100%. I think it's draining the battery sometimes.

My lid makes a clicky noise if I fiddle with it. I fixed it really easy......I don't fiddle with it.
