but I guess the answer would be have 2 pairs ... might seem extravagant but solves the problem.
Do what you want, but this sounds ridiculous, especially when you can use one & quick charge the other in no time.

Not with the APPs but I know turbos aren’t much louder on the interior than city buses and the APPs definitely make a trip on Miami Dade transit pretty near silent.

It's not really a sheer volume thing w/ turboprops, but more the different type of sound (vs jets)

Flying out of Lauderdale Sunday.

Gonna put the APPs up against my QC35 and mark the decibel level inside the cabin of the 737s.
APP’s won’t come close to matching AN’c of QC35. I find the passive noise cancelling of the QC35 alone is almost as good as my APP’s.

Good write-up by the OP.

I used to fly 3 to 4 times a week and several times a month international. This was years ago, I had the Bose Noise Cancelling wired head phones. For me, I hated the pressure on my ears on long trips. I find the AirPods Pro to be much more comfortable, in fact I wear mine for hours daily.

as for headphones, speakers, bigger one is always better, don't even need to test to tell, that's law of physics

I've always hated in-ear headphones because of the sound isolation, meaning I've absolutely depended on my regular EarPods since they first came out. They've always fitted like a glove, but I couldn't justify spending hundreds on a wireless version without any sonic upgrades. The AirPods Pro were made for me, and all of the "isolation" issues I had with previous in-ears don't exist. So happy. I've been waiting years for Apple to come out with a product like this. No "thump", no pressure, no complete isolation of the world around me (unless that's what I want). The only downside is that I'm struggling to get a good seal on my right ear, but regardless, they've instantly earned a spot in my tech ecosystem, which would only be replaced by a revision of the same down the line.

Just landed in Atlanta after a flight from Miami.

Shockingly the APPs are right on par with my QC35 as far as the amount of engine noise reduction. I went back and forth between the two units. I was skeptical, very skeptical, before my first flight with both. No more. The APPs are incredible. I am going to guess many people aren’t using the maximum efficient tips to get the best ANC results.

With no music playing, there is basically no discernible difference between the two cancelling engine noise. Only when no music is playing can I tell the APPs donkey in a little more noise in the voice and higher pitched banging sounds.

With music playing you will only notice the more expansive soundscape of the Bose since they can “create space” around your ear when listening. The APPs definitely have a more “localized” sound since the sound comes directly from a very small and direct speaker.

The absolute best feature that sets my APPs apart from my QC35 is being able to rest my head sideways on the headrests and aircraft walls without the protruding cans inhibiting doing so. The size of the APPs is an absolute positive.

I can’t speak for the QC35s, but it was no contest that the Anc on the Sony 1000xm3 was much better than the APP. I also had perfect fit, and I actually am a regular IEM wearer. I flew from NYC to SFO and back.

Regardless, what is more important is the value. With the APP, you’re trading soundstage and comfort for portability when it comes to flying. I like it for how easy it is to fit into my pocket, but the sound and overall features is still much better with the Sony. I thought about returning the APP, but I got them at a discount so decided to keep them.

I have the QC35, Sony WH100XM3 and APP. I agree the APP win at convenience and have very good ANC but, the Sony’s are superior. The Sony’s block the engine noise and do a better job at blocking or reducing some of the higher frequency noise as well. Performance wise Sony #1, QC35 #2, APP #3.

The only thing I am not crazy about with the Sony's is ear fatigue. Because they insert into the ear canal more than the APPs after an hour or so I need a break.

Another disadvantage of the Sony & co.: the bone-conduction (footfall(sound)).
With the APpro apple found a way to neutralize this pretty good – when its functioning:

After exchanging the APpro the second time because: first passing seal-test then after more than 1 week failing first 1 than both AP I found out:
The bone-conduction is less on the new ones. When I walked to the Apple-Store with the "old" ones I could hear the footfall(sound) like with common inEars. On the way back from the Store with the "new" ones the footfalls where not noticable!

It seams that the internal technic/micros that are responsible to avoid bone-conduction

->An inward-facing microphone listens inside your ear for unwanted sound, which is also eliminated with anti-noise.

-> and also the inner adaptation to the geometry of your ear and the fit of the ear tips

tend to fall out after a time.

The seal-test is only the indicator of the truely defect.

The Sony’s being discussed here are the over ear model not, the in ear.

I am discussing the disadvantage of inEars of sony or any other model – difference is that only the APpro is filtering out bone-conduction.
Another disadvantage of the Sony & co. overEars: bulky, hot ears, not so comfortable…

Just flew down from NY to FL with the APP’s. I was pleasantly surprised at the ANC. They worked great for me. Watching a movie on my iPad the volume was about 2/3 and no problems hearing. I am happy with my purchase as I am not a fan of big over ear headphones.
