Damn this is a tough call for me since my original AirPods Pro still work great, and I recently got them replaced for free due to the repair program. I'm hoping the Gen 2 will start seeing some discounts in about a year or so.

What did you do to get them replaced?

My battery is still reasonable on the pods, not so much on the case but I’m totally getting these for FindMy.

I don’t lose a lot of stuff and I’m religious in putting the AirPods in their case when out of my ears but for the life of me, every time I’m leaving my house I can never find my damn AirPods and finding them in the case has until recently been impossible. Ironically, it was easier to find them if you left them outside the case. Having full FindMy support will make using these a lot less stressful.

From my understanding they’re also findable by the FindMy network. So if you actually lose them, say in a park, as long as there’s an iPhone nearby from a complete stranger, you’ll get back to them. If someone takes them, you’ll be able to track it right up to them and ring it in their pocket.

Wait till you get tinnitus, you won’t care about lossless anymore. I have a 2 year old set of Pros. Time to upgrade just for the battery life.

I will live with my Beoplay EX for now until EX’s death or some other compelling reason to try Pro

I plan on getting them, but I’m not in a rush. I’ll probably order them around November. I’ve had my current Pros since March 2020 and the right earbud lasts about 2 hours while the left one lasts for about 3 hours.

I don't get why people want lossless audio in tiny earbuds? If you are serious about music, you should use high fidelity headphones with amp, to have a much wider frequency spectrum.. othwerwise what's the point of having lossless transmission of 20hz-20Khz?
What’s the point of degrading the bitstream before it even has a chance to reach the tiny earbuds?
You realize the tiny earbuds do have a frequency spectrum that is effected by lossy encoders?
You do realize that tiny earbuds existed for a very long time with wires attached to them and thus weren’t subject to lossy encoding as a necessity?
You do realize that the tech developed to make wireless lossless possible will also come to IEMs and Headphones that are better than tiny earbuds?

because there was no choice. people listened to lossless audio on CD's, but if you give people the option to choose cheaper, smaller.. they would choose lossy encoding any day. on top of that, most people can tell much more the lack of treble than a bitrate of 256kbps vs 320kbps for instance. I'm sure tech world should focus more on delivering an even better encoding option that would make it virtually impossible to tell the difference with lossless.

If the technology was capable we wouldn’t have to choose and there wouldn’t have to be a difference. Unfortunately Bluetooth is a very old protocol that was never designed for music in the first place, now everything is trying to squeeze what they can out of it without breaking compatibility. It can only be pushed so far though.

I’m not willing to purchase AirPods Pro until the audio quality is improved. The ANC and smart features aren’t all that important to me, the only feature I really care about is the seamless switching, but that alone isn’t enough for me to make the switch from my better sounding (and incidentally cheaper) earphones.

My wish list includes two things (the second of which is useless without the first):
1. Best-in-industry sound quality
2. Apple version of LDAC or a Wi-Fi connection for lossless

The original APPs are working fine and still holding a good charge, ~2 yrs now.
Will wait longer until the performance or battery dies out.
Also, let's wait to see what people say after they buy the APP2 and how the updates affect them.
It's well known, even here in the MR forums, that the original APPs worked well when it first came out. Subsequent updates nuked the ANC/Transparency modes so that it's worse, which happened to mine.
Remember to change out the foam tips every so often so it has a good seal which helps with the ANC.
The original APPs should sell out well considering prices have currently dropped as low as $169 at some places. Possibly wait until Black Friday to see if stores will clear out any remaining inventory at lower prices.
Don't need to pay $249 for APP2 when the APP still works at a lower price.

I love and use my Airpods Pro daily, but I know that battery on it makes it a disposable product. I will upgrade to AirPods Pro 2 once my current Airpods are dead. At this point there is really not much benefit in upgrading any tech yearly.

How do you know this doesn't give you the sound you want until you listen to them?
  • New low-distortion audio driver and custom amplifier for richer bass and clearer sound

What’s most disappointing is that they’re going to release the exact same headphones, but with a USB-C case, next year.

That’s my only reservation — since I know with iPhone 15, I’ll never need a Lightning cable again.
Haven’t we all upgraded to wireless charging by now?

Is there a chance it isn't next year, but Version 3, which may be in two more years?
