I missed the Apple Watch charger feature in the original announcement. Considering the MagSafe charger was a late addition for Version 1, it would have been nice if that update included it. I guess they had to save something to make me want to upgrade.

How is all new low distortion drivers, wider range of sound frequencies, high bandwidth connectivity, full FindMy integration, touch sensitive stems for volume control, 2X Noise Cancellation, a new transparency mode and 33% improved battery a "modest upgrade"???
Yeah, it may look the same, but it’s far from being the same internally. I guess they’re disappointed that Apple didn’t redesign it or at least didn’t offer space black or deep purple as an additional color.

I see your point, but you might be waiting another 2 years before that is going to happen.
Well that depends on how fast Apple decides to change it. Do it next year at the same time as the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro or wait until early 2024 before USB-C becomes mandatory in the EU? I guess the pods themselves will remain the same with only the lightning case being replaced by a USB-C version. Not the biggest dealbreaker for me because I can wait a couple of years before I take the full USB-C plunge with Apple. iPhone 16 Pro and 3rd Gen AirPods Pro for me???

I'm glad there is a new generation. So far I have only experienced issues with the first generation. Both earpieces have been replaced twice in the AirPods Pro Service Program for Sound Issues. The right AirPod will probably be replaced for the third time. So I am switching to the new AirPods Pro.

Damn this is a tough call for me since my original AirPods Pro still work great, and I recently got them replaced for free due to the repair program. I'm hoping the Gen 2 will start seeing some discounts in about a year or so.

yep, same here. Gen 1 still working fine after replacement

The people demand their placebos, lossless audio is essential for tiny earbuds, likely used in non-ideal listening environments with ANC on.

No lossless? Like listening to a cassette tape.

They’ll continue tucking their over ears + DAC into their coin pocket until at least AirPods Pro v3.

mine always works itself out my ear after a short period - does that mean I'm using the wrong sized tip?
Possibly, but you might want to try cleaning your ear canal first. Seriously. A build-up of skin oil and wax will cause problems holding the tip in place in your ear.

To the people complaining about lack of lossless: you would not be able to tell the difference. I can say this with almost complete certainty.

The only people who can tell the difference between lossless and 320kbps AAC are people who have spent a lot of time training themselves to look for very very specific treble artifacts. And to do this probably requires better hardware than what the AirPods Pro have.

Of all the factors you might have whether or not to buy these, the fact they don't support lossless should be at the very bottom of the pile.

I have bought mine 2 and half years ago.
They’re…. OK/good-ish

I ain’t spending more money on in ear devices for a while.
I don’t like them that much anymore.

I'm not gonna lie. My skin is pretty oily. I'm afraid if I get the foam tips, it'll just be a $20 oil sponge
I too have a source of renewable oil, the comply tips are great for me, they do break
down over time. I get ~5 months out of a tip.

I too am out until lossless is feasible, at least at 16/44.1 standard resolution. If the hardware can’t even handle a basic digital standard from over 40 years ago and relies on a degraded low-bitrate stream in order to function; then the tech simply isn’t ready to become a part of my life. Wouldn’t even take a set of AirPods for free as they currently exist…

But I’m definitely looking forward to loading up my 1TB 14 Pro Max with only the finest FLAC files this Friday!
Do you mean ALAC? Didn't know FLAC was supported...

It’s not, which is really the one serious issue I still have with the iOS ecosystem. There are 3rd party apps you can use to playback FLAC files however they are sandboxed away from the Music app or the device’s natively integrated music library. I wish this were not still the case in this day and age, but Apple drags their heels with everything and really wants to push ALAC as their lossless format of choice. When basically the entire industry has gone in the opposite direction.

You can use ALAC, but I wouldn’t. It’s an inferior knockoff format Apple only created when they couldn’t strongarm the creator of FLAC into signing away the rights. The only reason ALAC even has to exist right now is that it plays nicely with the Apple ecosystem; whereas Apple actively blocks FLAC from doing so.

They need an airpod trade in programme
I'd agree with this. I'm upgrading from the 3rd gen AirPods after having them just over a year because they become incredibly uncomfortable after about 30 minutes of use. They're still in great shape.

Bro you just need a good skin routine, lol

For what it's worth, I use Graydon Face Foam religiously morning and night (yes, ears included), and Phyto Clear and a water based Fullmoon Serum a few times a week. No more shiny skin, no more breakouts, AirPods squeaky dry. You're welcome. 😄

That said, my left AirPod has never fit right. The other one never comes out. I'm looking forward to the smaller tip for that ear.

This is no "upgrade" since APP2 continues with APP1's eartips that are too small, too soft, and too slippery to be usable. Not to mention that proprietary snap-on BS.

BFP > APP

Why not just charged them wirelessly?
I want less chargers, not more. I have a wireless charger which I never use because it’s slower, and only charges my iPhone and AirPods. I don’t think about it ever. It’s only there because it’s attached to an Apple Watch charger.

my problem with all of the comply and foam tips I have tried is that with the medium size, they frequently keep the AirPods from sitting fully in the charging slot. So they stay connected to my phone as if they are outside the case and I don't hear sounds from my phone. And then when I go to use them they are dead. Usually it is just one of the two but it could be either or both.

It seems the spot for the top of the earpiece is just a bit to small and that keeps the comply tips from letting the AirPods sit all the way in.

I have tried the original comply tips for AirPods pros and also the gen 2 version. And I have tried it on two sets of AirPods Pro's as well.

I love and use my Airpods Pro daily, but I know that battery on it makes it a disposable product. I will upgrade to AirPods Pro 2 once my current Airpods are dead. At this point there is really not much benefit in upgrading any tech yearly.
I agree that these are not long-term products. But Apple charges $49 for battery service. If your APPs are otherwise working, that could be a good way to go after the original batteries wear out.

Haven't had any issues with my APP1 since I had one replaced with rattlegate, so I'll easily pass.

Picked up APP1 on release day and got them replaced due to rattling sound defect before they even announced the recalls. Use them almost daily, mainly when going to the gym, still getting about 4 hours of battery life (just listening, no ANC/spatial sound), but one earbud dies immediately at 10% battery. Don't think I'll switch since there's nothing new useful based on my usage, battery life improvement isn't that significant.
