The BeatsX are a no brainer. It has the remote that we all know and love from our EarBuds, and it has 3+ hours of battery over the AirPods.

BeatsX is a no brainer in this race.

Got them both and the Beats X is far from a no brainer, unless by no brainer you mean a no brainer to return. The cable is horrible. Way too long. Not the neckband, but the cord from the neckband to your ears. I wasn't a huge fan of the PB3 look (although don't hate them either), but this is just way worse. Which is ironic to me because I would've thought the Beats X would look better.

So your entire gripe about them isn't about audio quality, battery life, pairing performance, it's about the length of the cord that connects the two. Prize for the silliest complaint of the day.

I just picked them up and I think the cord length is perfect. One thing I was worried about is that the cord would be too short and when put behind my neck would sit on my neck and would annoy with any movement. Because of the length of the cord I can put it over the clothing below the neckline of the clothing and I can't feel the cord. The other thing I worried about is the cord from the earpiece going down. If it is too close it rubs your face which can be annoying. This sticks out the perfect amount so that I can turn and move slightly and the cord never contacts my face. A+ if you ask me.

Anyone have any luck at Best Buy or Target? Traveling and an apple store is distant.

I'm with you. I LOATHE the Jaybirds x3 cause the cord tickles the back of my neck.

First off, I'm not sure what's sillier, my comment or the fact that you're denigrating someone else's personal preference just because you don't deem that particular preference significant. The length of the cord has real impact on usability. And maybe you're someone who doesn't care much for aesthetics, but there are plenty of folks who do care about how earphones look when wearing them. The cord is not only so long that it looks bad (to me), it also rubs up against my jacket collars. That might not in and of itself be an issue except that each time the cord rubs against the jacket, it creates a very loud interference with whatever I'm listening to. This happens with other headphones as well, but because the cords aren't as long on and "out there", it's not an issue.

Then as for pairing performance, it has a W1 chip. Works exactly like all the other earphones with the W1 chip. Audio quality is pretty much the same as PB3 to my ears. Battery life is what it is.

Anyway, I'm sure plenty of people will love them. I'm just not one of them. It's either PB3 or AirPods for me.

You tore into the cord for being too long. Many complained about it being too short. If you don't like it, buy a product with a shorter or no cord. Personally I rather it be too long than too short.

Wow, what got into your Wheaties today?

Have you not noticed the multiple people complaining about the cord being too long? And anyway, regardless of whether the cord
Is too long or too short (which is a wholly subjective point), is this not a discussion forum where we can voice our gripes about this? You're almost acting like you're the lead designer for the Beats X and I just somehow totally dissed your life's work. Relax man...

Love when people trash a product because it doesn't cater to their specific need. Haha. I honestly don't care if you don't like it or not.

I've been thinking long and hard about whether I want airpods or beats x, and the main criticism about airpods seems to be the lack of inline volume / track control.
Many suggest using the Apple Watch music app (which doesn't launch automatically) to control music, however what when you are using your airpods with your iPad or mac? Can't use the Apple Watch then can you?!

From the iPad, you're right, there's no remote control unless you use double tap to Siri. However, you can control iTunes on the mac with the remote app that's built into the Apple Watch. Don't even need it on your iPhone.
