So if ive been reading this thread correctly:

A fair # of intel-based iMacs and Macbook Pro's are having speed problems with their airport connections.

Most, if not all, problems have been solved by going to an apple store or sending the computer in, am i right?

Im buying a Macbook pro soon(ish) and would like to be assured that if there is a problem, it can be fixed.

The Mini was also affected, I really haven't heard of the iMac and the MBP having problems with the antennas.

Right now my only complaint with the iMac is that it (still) won't automatically connect to my wireless network.

I have this vague memory that the fairly recent revisioning of MBP cleared up the wireless problems too.

I just got my black MacBook yesterday...I have the exact same packet loss issues over WiFi that the people have here.

--- http://www.l.google.com ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 66 packets received, 34% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 25.911/37.412/221.888/31.121 ms

What a pain in the ass...my 12" PB has none of these issues. Ugh.

Hi, I'm writing from my new MacBook 1,83 white and... yes, I'm having the same issue (very slow speed - 120 kbps with Airport, 2500 kbps with wire LAN, sharing the same cable connection). :(

My old Powerbook and my PC of course run faster!
Also, i've tried Windows XP with BootCamp on the Macbook and... it also run very faster!

So, logically,
IT CAN BE ONLY A MACOS DRIVER ISSUE!

Can I try to do something?

Hmm

I haven't had any issues with my computer and basestations. It held my connection to a Linksys router, to a Netgear router, and to a Belkin router (which is no surprise given the similarities between Linksys and Belkin). And all three had different types of security (Linksys-Channel 11, WEP 64-bit, Netgear-none, Belkin54g-WPA2, channel 11). And, I'm on the other side of a 2.4GHz wireless phone.:S

imac 20" intel won't connect

I have read most of everyones posts dating back to march but have been given some minor relief on my problem. I just bought a REFURBISHED imac 20" core duo. Replacing my old G5 20" imac in my room, I put my new computer in the exact same location. To my suprise this new intel imac cannot even see my network at all like my G5 used to. Regardless, other pc desktops all round the house can connect beautifully to my airport express base station, including a 12" PB that is sitting right next to the intel machine. I dropped it off at the genius bar two days ago and picked it up today, with the assurance from them that they recognized that there was a hardware problem with the card and it would either be realigned or replaced. Picking it up thinking they had fixed it like they said, I come home to find NOTHING HAS CHANGED. The intel imac's wireless card still SUCKS and can't connect. This has nothing to do with intereference because I have done tests with cell phones shut off, cordless phones displaced, and computers shutdown (not to mention my pb connects fine).

In conclusion, the replacement wireless card they have put in my imac didn't change anything and here are the specs if it means anything to anyone.

Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x89)
Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 103.2 (3.120.28.3)
Current Wireless Network: ******
Wireless Channel: 11

My intel imac will connect to the airport when within 10 -20 ft which is ridiculous considering my old imac was fine at 50 ft. THIS IS A WIRELESS CARD ISSUE (SOFTWARE/HARDWARE) I'm sure of it. The reason why I can gladly ask for a new imac is because I paid for a baseline refurb imac duo, which they accidentally shipped with a 500gb drive instead of a 250gb....i don't want them to correct their mistake...=(

throw me a bone here steve.

Airtunes dropping music with MacBook Pro

I have a rev. A 2.0ghz MacBook Pro that drops songs all the time with airtunes. I have tried it with multiple Airport Express' and my brothers PowerBook works just fine with both. Transfering files is at normal speed, the internet is fast, but I cannot play music with airtunes. Any ideas why?

Thanks,
Sam

I'll run the tests later - heading out soon - but I see similar results with an AirPort Express and a Linksys WRT54 something-or-another - the Vonage model.

I have been experiencing issues with my new MacBook and connecting to a WRT54G. I have to restart my router about every 30 mins.

Any suggestions on fixing this. The Apple tech suggested that I reinstall my operating system.

Should I proceed and will it help?

???

Is the WRT54G a linksys (I believe it is). I have had nothing but problems with both Linksys and Netgear. On a regular ADSL connection, they work fine. But my grandmother doesn't have ADSL (I don't know what she has, I think it's SDSL), and it goes out every once and a while, I have to reset it at least twice a day. Their Netgear was also doing the same. Also, the Linksys refused to recognize that my ISP Gateway was different than my fixed IP address. It was extraordinarily frustrating.

Fortunately, the Belkin54g wireless router worked fine (and is also configurable as an access point). When it was configured as a router, I encountered nothing but access point problems, and my browser had trouble sending large text stuff. I couldn't sign in to Hotmail, anything longer than a paragraph ina forum didn't work. It was frustrating.

I've noticed no connection issues with a Linksys WRT54GS (Linksys + Speedbooster). Neither with Netgear and Belkin with the airport on a Intel comp.

But aren't the wireless cards different from the ones that were installed in the PowerPC ones?

I am not sure if they are the same or not. I have just read previous posts that make me think that there is something with the new intel based machines. The card is a airport extreme(0x168c). What a pain in the rear.

Except that while running Windows under Boot Camp, Windows doesn't identify it as an Airport card at all. It recognizes it as an Atheros "insert whatever here cuz I don't feel like restarting to get the exact model #". Also, while running under Windows, you can get to card settings that I haven't been able to find out how to get to under OS X.

I re-entered my network configuration to the AirPort config, that seemed to fix the iMac's "can't find network when booting" issue.

As for MacBook I haven't run any tests but it seems to work ok.

Without scanning 337 posts, what's the reception/speed like in XP? I don't use Wireless, just Ethernet.

I wanted to add my data to this thread.

I'm the IT manager for a media company that uses Macs.
Here at work we have around 20 macs (mostly minis, some powerbooks).

So far I have had 2 new Minis (intel) that were DOA due to the airport card.
This week we got a brand new Macbook Pro, and sure enough, same problem.

Turn on the machine, turn on airport, surf. CRASH.
This happens to be the CEOs system. Nice.

I went to the Apple store (again) where they confirmed the issue (again) but could not replace it as it's a custom build. OK, so we spent more to buy a higher end system, and now we're penalized for that?

Apple support was nice enough (...) to DOA the system and we're returning it, putting a new (replacement) on a credit card.

Apple has a real problem here with the Airport cards on the Intels, but my bigger issue is their lack of any kind of business level support. We're supposed to have a developer down for "3-5 business days" while they replace the system?
I don't expect 4 hour response like Dell, but surely they can do better.

Mac mini SUCKS!!!

In the title, I sounded like a kid.... but, I'm a 57 year old female who has used macs for 35 years and have loved them. This mini duo will not hook up to the airport repeatedly while my husband sits right beside me with his new ibook, with total connection (all the bars).

The thing has blown two logic boards and they have replaced both. I've had to take it into the mac store SIX times for airport issues and logic board issues. (It's 90 miles round trip for me) They REFUSE to consider giving me my money back... only if the logic board goes out two more times.

I'm sitting here darn lucky to be online, don't count on me reading any of your replies, because I'm not sure that I'll even be able to get on. I have one measly dot for connectivity. Apple is losing a great reputation treating people this way!!! This is not to mention the hassle of using photoshop with this machine. (my business)... they are writing a universal binary to help with that... it'll only cost $50.00... what a crock!!!

I'm ready to spit nails!!

You've used macs for 35 years?

No one likes having a problem, but sooner or later someone who takes this place seriously is going to tell you not to double post.

According to my sources, Apple knows there is a problem and is actively working to fix it (most likely via a new kernel).
In the meantime, we're sending back this Macbook Pro and getting another one...

We received our replacement Macbook Pro today. But wait, what's this?
Apple sent us two of them by mistake.
Another hour wasted on the phone. Sigh.

Wrong person last time but 35 years, come on there and Photoshop does not run that slow on these I think Office is much more annoying slowness wise. The company wasnt even founded until 1976 so you were not using a Mac for 35 years unless you are Steve or Steve.
