Problem solved

Well after my original post and three trips to the apple genius bar at the store, I have finally resolved my issue. Basically after they replaced the airport extreme card, my imac couldn't pick up any networks in the store. They then replaced the logic board...still same issue. Finally they found that the antenna enclosure was damaged so they replaced it. PROBLEM SOLVED LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

So ultimately it was a hardware issue with my refurb (go figure). Word of caution to anyone thinkin of goin refurb in the future. My warranty came in handy and now my signal reception strength is back to normal.

Goodluck to everyone else.

:)

My Macbook 1.83GHz is having ariport connectivity problems

symptoms: airport looses connectivity with access point...once in 2 mins (very annoying) with no loss of signal strength.

only happens when running on battery! but wont happen if I run itunes radio streaming...or something to keep the airport car working.

Beat that.

This is really frustrating and I've been giving my DSL provider hell for it only to find out it's my 17" Intel iMac's fault

My macbook black has perfect airport connection..never drops my connection randomly:)

My computer has never dropped my connection (unless randomly right after resuming from standby it asks me for my security again). It has done it once or twice with a different router (linksys), but never with my Belkin. :)

With my 4 weeks old 17 inch MacBook Pro I have exactly the same problem, as Shiru described.

I tested the AirPort connectivity with different Access Points.
If the AC is plugged in, there will be no interruption. If the AC is unplugged and using the MacBook Pro in Battery mode, the WLAN connection get´s interrupted every 2-5 minutes whithout reconnecting automatically. If I choose my WLAN network from the menu, the MacBook get´s conncted again for the next few minutes. If I start a VPN connection to my office with a NAT-T keep alive signal, there will be no interruption of the WLAN. Same behaviour, if I play an AirTunes Stream to an AirPort Express Station, wich part of the network, bur not working as an WLAN AccessPoint.

Mac Type: MacBook Pro 17

OS Version: 10.4.7
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide

ive had similar problems. i have the macbook pro 15 w/intel. my airport wouldnt connect to the desired network even though it was picking it up. i found a solution that sometimes works by turning off airport and turning it back on.

but it has definitely quit on me mid file transfer and after waking from a sleep.

i really hope this can be fixed, although i havent had any problems recently.

I had no issues with my Airport at all before i did the 10.4.6 update. As soon as i installed the 10.4.6 update i started to have problems with my Airport staying connected when i log out and then log back in.
The 10.4.7 update did not resolve these issues either. I have spent quite a lot talking to Apple tech support over this and the steps that they told me to take to try and rectify this still did not work.
It is a real pain all the time having to type in your password etc when you log in.

The strange thing is that i do not have these problems at all when i log in to Windows XP via Bootcamp. Under Bootcamp Airport seems to work flawlessly and even though i log in and out it still remembers my details and it does not ask me for them every time i log in.

This has probably already been answered, but I don't feel like searching through 300+ messeges to find it, can you change the network cards channel? Say, from Channel 6 to 11? Sorry, never mind, found the answer.

I recently read that Tiger phones home specifically Dashboard. So I stopped all running widgets except the Stop Dashboard widget, clicked that and I'm now I'm getting better speeds. Using a 17" Intel iMac and Airport Express. I don't know if stopping Dashboard has anything to do with the improved speed.

i have a week 29 MacBook Pro (it's only two days old), and yesterday my airport connection dropped and then the airport card didn't show up, like it wasn't even installed on the computer.

i called applecare after i tried everything i could think of; the support guy was surprised as well that the computer didn't recognize the airport card. he took a few minutes to research the issue.

i had to turn off my laptop, take out the battery, and hold down the power button for five seconds. this reset something apparently. when i turned my computer back on, the airport was working again.

the applecare guy told me not to do this more than every few days. i let him know that i wouldn't be very happy if i had to do this again, considering this was a brand new machine.

I'm also having AirPort issues on my 1.83 MacBook. It's usually OK waking up from sleep but seems to give up sometimes under load (for instance when streaming iTunes tracks from another computer) and sometimes when you leave it without turning the computer off or sending it to sleep. Both of these require a reboot before it will reconnect to the network. Extremely random, can't understand it, not very happy :( Thought my router was playing up but in fact it was the MB.

I want to love my iMac, but-

Hi all,

I wish I didn't have to ask, but I can relate to a previous post.

I've got a refurbished 20" iMac Intel exhibiting a bizzare phenomenon; the computer can see my linksys wireless router, but WILL NOT connect to it. I get an error message "there was an error connecting to _____"

It sees all the networks in my building, but can't connect to any of em [open ones that is] It sees "linksys" but refuses to connect. It instead connects to someone's Netgear router, displays full signal, then scrolls "NETGEAR" next to the signal meter and then goes to 1 bar.

Once connected to any one of the other routers in the area, it still won't establish a connection with the internet.

This is great- the keyboard problem just went away- and brought the wireless problem in its' place.

Any help/insight guys/gals?

Thanks in advance.

-Mike

I haven't read all of the replies as of yet, but I do have a question. When I get my mac, will I have problems using a pc with wireless as a base and a hub on my mac? Hubby doesn't want a mac and our wireless router is hooked up to his pc (dsl) and as of right now my current pc is using a hub to get a signal. Would that be a future problem that I have to correct before I get my mac or would that work?

maybe just maybe once I get mine, he will want one!

Macbook Wireless Mystery

This is not really a question--I just want to throw my experience out there (although I welcome a solution if anybody has one).

White 1.83 MacBook has wireless problems right out of the box: downloads come in starts and stops at about 15 second intervals (wireless signal is continuously strong). Internet works fine over ethernet. We have 2 G4 powerbooks that do not exhibit this problem.

There were a couple of physical flaws as well so Mac store replaces the computer. New computer does exactly the same thing.

I take new computer to my neighbors house and log on to her wireless network--wireless behaves just fine--downloads fast, etc. My router is dlink di614+, hers is some kind of Apple.

Tried all the firmware updates, config changes, bla bla bla. No change.

Oh yeah, the Mac techs said they WERE able to reproduce the wireless problem (on the 1st machine) in the store!!

sundry wireless issues . . .

I use my 15" MacBook to conduct business all over the place. The problems I have been experiencing are with wireless connections. All indications state that I am online during the problem but nothing loads -- regardless of the browser. Places that I frequent may not have any issue, dependant upon the day.

What could be the problem?

Have a Di614+ and its the best router i've had even better than the new 634M. All the intel macs (MacBook/MacBook Pro) recognise it no problems and surf normally.

hey guys, im new here. heres my issue.

Just got my sister a new intel macbook. I have a linksys wireless-B router BEFW11S4 running firmware version 1.52.02. I have a PC connected fine via ethernet and another pc connected fine via wireless, with a Linksys wireless-G network adapter.

my macbook connects via airport, but loses the connection after a hour or two. Only way to fix is to change the router settings and save changes, or to unplug and replug the router. Ive tried everything I know how to try...changing the wireless channel, whatever. havent found any solution yet. when I called mac, they said they could see no problem and that the problem must be with my ISP. I called comcast, and they said there is no problem, it must be with my router. I got on livechat with linksys, and they tried to help me but failed, and said the problem must be with the mac since I have a PC connected wirelessly just fine to the network.

HELP! I believe the macbook is losing its router assigned I.P. address, possibly

OK - so what is the answer to the problem

I have read through the thread.....so what is being done. I just purchased a MacBook Pro 17 as my beloved two year old Powerbook 15 hard drive was about to go to recycling heaven. (why doesn't the new 15" MacBook have 800 Firewire?? didn't want to go to a heavier book but need the 800 FW).

Kept the airconditioner pointed at the cooling vents and luckily migrated all my files. Anyhoo....my Powerbook was very fast 2MB+ on our inconsistent BT line. My MacBook is struggling to get 100kbps through a D-Link 602+. All other PCs in eht house are fine (Dell,HP). Do I need to get a new router to match what the MacBook needs? I just want it to work. Please does anyone have the definitive solution to the apparent massive problem. Very disappointed in Apple not to have addressed this problem officially with a cure at the outset.
