Read countless posts on here and Reddit from people defending Apple's potential move of not including the power adapter with the 2020 iPhones because they had plenty of them lying around at home already. And yet not a word from anyone now that we know the new iPhones will ship with a USB-C Lightning cable that is incompatible with all previously included iPhone power adapters (except iPhone 11 Pro and Max).

People just like to defend Apple.

All? So it’s not compatible with last years included one in the iPhone 11 Pro and max? You did say “All”

Apple only provided the fast charger for one year, only ppl who have those are the ppl who purchase the iPhone 11 Pro. Older iPhone users have to purchase the new brick or use their old 5w brick and cable.

Why include the cable at all with this logic?

If you can’t comprehend I just stated the latter which would be Android users which would have a brick with a USB type C plug thus the cable would suffice for them. Unless you’re a Samsung user which as far as I know still uses type a. My last Android phone was a Note 8 for my reference.

I get that it ships with a USB-C to lightning cable, but that doesn't mean all the lightning to USB-A cables and chargers I have won't work. Also, think about all the people who have MacBooks or MacBook Pros, they have USB-C on their computers and USB-C power bricks that can be used with that USB-C cable included.

EDIT: As you can see from my signature, I do not own any USB-C devices previously. I still think this was the right move. I have SO many USB A bricks and so many lightning cables AND Qi chargers. I have so many different ways to charge the iPhone 12 Pro I'll be getting so I won't be missing the fact that no charger is included.

One could assume that "all these people" with power adapters also have a compatible Lightning cable for them.

Not type C to lightning. At this point Apple is literally waiting to go fully wireless. The years of rumors of type c can be put to rest.

What devices in the world do not use USB C now besides iPhone? iPad and Mac switched, PC has largely switched too. Surely people who through out their old charger that they could have used instead, could find a way to charge if they want cables and not a dedicated wireless option.

If you bought iPhone 11, the best selling smartphone in the first half of 2020, your USB-A charger isn't compatible.

If you're a typical smartphone buyer, your replacement cycle is about 30-40 months. You probably don't have a compatible charger.

So you can’t charge your phone with the included brick and cable from your XS or X?

The iPhone 11 charger can charge iPhone 12 models perfectly fine... there's no new standard stopping people from charging new phones...
