Wouldn't we be in the same situation in a year or two time with the A9/A10 as to where were are with the A8 today? After all, the A8 was the state of the art in its day.

Yep but it’s better than no update at all. At least if they kept to the ‘it’ll have old processors’ then it’s something.
Tbh an A9 would be silly at this point, I’m expecting an A10 update for the 2018 iPad and mini this year.

Wife still using her Mini 2 and loves it. I have been hesitant to update the OS for fear of slowing it down too much. If they came out with a new one we would defiantly go for it!

Think it’s done for good now...certainly when bezels are thinner on the bigger models and having a future 6.5 inch iPhone to come

How can you think the 16:9 6.5 inch iphone (which will no doubt have a notch too, so it’s not 6.5 inch video screen), be anywhere close to a 4:3 iPad mini, especially when it will cost 3x as much?

Also, not everyone who uses a mini wants to carry around a gigantic iphone every where.

That's a common sentiment (iPhone = iPad Mini) that I don't agree with.

As much as I've grown to love the 7.9 iPad (initially to complement my 12.9 Pro), I have come to the realization that Apple's "heart" wasn't in it. They grudgingly capitulated to the growing sales of 7" Android tablets. Now that Android tablets sales have dropped to a point of not being of any concern, Apple no longer has any incentive to sell the Mini.

Given the current state of iOS, the Mini has replaced the 12.9 Pro as my favorite iPad. And THAT guarantees that Apple will kill it.

Is it 16:9? Isn’t it going to have iphone x’s aspect ratio of 19.5:9? Which equates to even less screen real estate. Display marketing needs to switch from diagonal measurement to surface area measurement—a metric that is actually meaningful. The average person won’t stop to think how aspect ratio changes surface area. Of course, maybe that’s what companies are counting on.

Yeah you are right, that's kind of where my video screen part came in, but I was focusing more on the black bars added then.

The 8 plus definitely has more screen real estate than the X, while actually having a smaller screen.

The 6.5" X probably won't be much different than the 8 plus now when comparing it to a mini.

The main problem is, not everyone who uses a gigantic iPhone wants to carry around an iPad mini.

Are the two devices a direct replacement for each other? No. Consumers don't want to carry around two bulky devices. They would rather carry around one bulky iPhone and not buy a mini.

Rumours have been suggesting that prior to launching new pro models later this year, they may be launching a new even lower priced iPad than the 2017 model. Who knows? That could be a new mini.

Apple can still milk the product for revenues. There are plenty of existing users stuck or invested in the mini form factor.

But the pricing and the fact it doesn’t support AR is already Apple’s way of telling consumers not to buy it.

Is there a reason why a future Mini could not possibly support AR?

I really doubt that the "smaller size" is the limitation.

The reason would be Apple doesn't plan to release a future iPad mini.

iOS 11 is a monumental leap for iPad and the entire line was updated, with the exception of the mini. I don't think it's an oversight by Apple.

An iPad mini pro would sell like a battery replacement service!

I think they just haven’t figured out the spin to put on it based on what they’ll probably charge which will probably be around the same price as a much more powerful and arguably more productive Apple product already available.

Because the difference in size will be seen as not much different

If Apple were going to upgrade the mini I think they would have done so last year. Looks dead to me.

I doubt those rumors are credible.

Kuo told us back in August 2016 a low cost 9.7” iPad would come in 2017. He’s the same guy that told everyone about the 10.5” model last year and the Face ID models this year. Unless the rumors come from him, I question the accuracy.

The iPad Mini is a dead product I would not imagine any new iterations of it coming now. I know there is a entire cult following of the size and portability that it has. But doesn't look like Apple has to offer anything as far as the Mini is concerned !

The iPad mini is without doubt the perfect gaming device. Both kids and adults can reach the whole screen with both thumbs without loosing the grip of the iPad. I really hope to see an upgrade later on this year.

Rather than release a iPad Mini, I would see Apple just shrinking the bizzle and make it smaller. I can see the iPad would be the lower tire iPad, iPad Pro 10.5 is mid-tire and iPad Pro 12.9 would be the highest tire iPad.

I don’t think iPad Mini should be in SKU anymore. Apple need reduce its line up.

I actually think they should list length and width for screens. If they had done that for iPhone X, I think it would have spared a lot of confusion. And it would have spared me dusting off my high school math skills trying to figure exactly how wide the screen was going to be compared to my current phone...
