I had the X for three months, then the 8 Plus for a month, and I'm about to go to the 8 tomorrow. Crazy? Some might say so.

I went into my reasons for ditching the X in detail previously, but I'll sum it up with this: I'm not interested in being an early adopter any more and I personally prefer Touch ID and the LCD vs the current iteration of the X's design.

As for why I'm moving down to the 8? I'm over large phones. I use my MacBook Pro for the majority of my browsing and media consumption, so having such a big phone feels like an inconvenience now. Wireless charging has, for me, mostly negated the need for the battery life of the Plus and I've never been that impressed by the telephoto camera.

The 8 is far smaller and more comfortable to use, yet it retains the main features I care about: Taptic Engine, 'fake' Home button, True Tone, OIS, A11 Bionic, Qi charging etc. I even considered the much-cheaper SE, but I would lose all of these features in the process, and the 4-inch display is a bit too small for my liking.

Anyway, I've rambled a bit. In answer to OP's question, it's not crazy at all. It doesn't matter what other people think, use whatever you want to use.

I switched from the X to the 8 with zero regrets. I thought the X was heavy, noticeably thicker, FaceID was great except when it was annoying, no bezels caused me problems accidentally selecting things, it's insanely expensive, I don't understand the "screen is so much better" thing, . . .

I love the 8. It's small and perfectly formed. It's a keeper.

So since the iPhone X came out ...

Switched from8 Plus to X on launch day. Wanted home button back sold my X bought a 6S (idk why). Had the 6S for a while went to a Note 8 didn’t like it just like I didn’t care for the X. Switched to a 7 plus after that and now I’m on the 8...

You’re not crazy I might be but you’re not lol

I had the 8 then got the X, i hate FID for unlock so turned it off, just use it for password apps and safari. Solved my main gripe as i was thinking of going to a 8 plus but they are brick like my wife has one.
I like the swiping and the screen and size, and the camera so sticking with it. Would loose heaps selling too.

I know it sounds absolutely crazy, but hear me out.

Initially, I bought the iPhone 8 (non-plus) when it first came out. I used it for several months and then jumped ship to the X. I’ve been using the X for months now and I do like it a lot. Or do I?

I recently went to an Apple store and just for the hell of it, completely out of the blue, lifted the 8 again. Low and behold, I fell in love with it again.

It feels soooo much lighter than the X and much more ergonomically friendly. It’s just as responsive and something about that super sleek and small form factor just makes me want to make the switch.

Now, I realize that it’s a downgrade in many ways. However, there are some X features that I absolutely could do without. First is Face ID. It’s great when it works. I’d say that I find myself having to unlock the phone manually about 40% of the time, either because I’m unlocking the phone at an odd angle or due to lighting interference. I never had problems unlocking the 8, unless my hands were wet, which rarely happened. Second thing is the camera. Sure, it’s great, but too gimmicky for my taste. Don’t care for portrait mode and the zoom as I almost never use them. Additionally, I never once notice a difference in pic quality between my 8 and the X. Lastly, I could never personally tell the difference between the LED and LCD screens. I’m not saying it’s not noticeable. I’m saying that I never truly noticed. And although the screen on the X is bigger, it isn’t overwhelming so.

All in all, I do like the X. I had no problems with it, other than unlocking annoyances or inconveniences, whichever way you want to spin it.

Not sure what to do. My X is in immaculate shape and I know that I can still recoup most of the cost for it. The 8 just made an impression on me, again. I realize some people hate the bezels and the fact that it bears a design that dates back several years, but I find the build quality of the 8 is superb to prior models. And I personally don’t mind the bezels.

Am I the only person who considered going from the X to the 8? - The 8 Plus is completely out of the question as I generally prefer smaller phones. The X is significantly heavier than the 8. You truly don’t notice it, unless you use it on a daily basis and then suddenly pick up the 8.

I like phone that fit in my pocket with ease and don’t make it bulky. The X, despite not being that much bigger, does carry significantly bigger, if that makes sense. When I put the 8 in my front jeans pocket, you really can’t see it at all. Not the case with the X. It’s definitely more noticeable.

I like the more nimble 8. Maybe I’m just crazy. Can’t quite put a finger on it lol

I don't think the specs are that much off. Personally If I had the x I would keep it and not waste money on an 8 and possibly lose money on the x. X does has more features and is pretty close in size. How ever if that small difference is bother you and money doesn't play a factor do the 8.

Can't go wrong with the 8. I'm still enamored with mine, she's one pretty phone IMO:

Quick update:

I made the switch yesterday and I couldn't be happier! Zero regrets. I love the smaller form factor so much more!!! Another thing I noticed is how much easier it is to hold the 8 or maneuver with in when the screen is fully engaged (photo, video, scrolling through browser, etc.). I never thought I would say this, but the bezels actually make sense. With the X, I found myself constantly readjusting my grip because part of a finger would be touching the screen and it wouldn't respond to anything another finger was attempting to do. Not sure if me explaining it makes sense. With the bezels, this is never a concern since no finger resting on or close to the screen ever interferes with operating it.

Another thing I noticed is how much quicker I can get things done on the 8. The Touch ID just works, every time. It's lightning fast. I no longer have to position the phone in front of my face to validate anything, even though I still find myself doing it out of habit haha. Last thing is, and I don't know how this is possible, but I find the 8 is faster when maneuvering around. I restored everything I had on the X already, so it's not a matter of space or memory. It just lags far less than the X did. Very strange.

Suffice to say, I'm very glad that I made the switch. I always wanted the latest and greatest in gadgets and now I realize that newer isn't always better in all regards.

On a side note, I ordered the iPhone 8 SIM FREE and it got delivered in 40 minutes. I had no idea iPhone deliveries were this quick. I live in Chicago and paid $9 to have it delivered under 2 hours.

P.S. Some have asked if I miss anything about the X. The God honest truth is that I miss absolutely nothing about the X. It packs more features that I personally never grew fond of. I used the animated emojis once. I played with the portrait mode several times and I just didn't care for it. Never noticed the camera enhancements either. Screen was larger, but now that I look back, it wasn't that much bigger if you factor is the notch and the fact that the top and bottom of the phone are pretty much useless most of the time when opening a browser, etc. Face ID is a total flop compared to the Touch ID and so nothing to like there either. Not sure if I missed anything that I may have liked, but I can't think of it.

Who delivered the phone for $9 in under 2 hours??
The camera modes seem like they would get the most beneficial use on that device. The anamoji only work with iMessage right?

Apple store. Some dude came lol. No idea who he was or who he worked for. He called me and said he's downstairs with my iPhone. I was like ok. There it was. No signature, nothing. Handed it to me and left.

There's an option when you check out to have the phone delivered in 2 hours for $9. But it only took about 40 minutes.

I feel ya OP.

I’ve been back on my 7+ for a couple of weeks now and love it. I don’t hate the X but I don’t love it. I’ve been eyeing it and thinking about switching back and sticking with it but the other day I finally got to use ApplePay on my 7+ and it’s so much better than the X.

Might stick with the 7+ another few weeks and see how I feel. I’m really hoping iOS 12 will have some things that make me want to switch back to the X and not look back.

Personally I love Touch ID better the face I guess it’s because we all don’t have the same fingerprints where Face ID can be open by other people not saying it happens a lot especially if your an identical twin.

So someone from an Apple store delivered an iPhone to you and they didn’t give you any type of receipt, no signature or confirmation of anything? That sounds highly strange to me. I wasn’t even aware or ever have even heard of this service before.

Nor have I, not sure why this wouldn't be front page news on MR...

I just got the X on Tuesday, the FaceID works well. I'm not seeing all of the issues other people are claiming that they're having.

I haven’t either initially. It gets to you and you start noticing it like a month or two into using the X on a daily basis. It slowly becomes annoying. Especially when you want to quickly unlock your phone on a table and check something. Takes longer than it should.
[doublepost=1522535054][/doublepost]Another quick update:

I finally found something that I miss about my iPhone X: the battery.

My God. What a difference! Night and day, literally. I’m not exaggerating when I say that my iPhone X battery would outlast my iPhone 8 battery by at least 3x. At least!

The battery on the 8 drains in no time with my usage. It’s garbage in comparison. I realize that it’s smaller, but wow. I’m surprised it’s that bad.

In comparison, my X battery lasted forever it seems.

So yeah, an honest observation on something I miss. However, everything else I like about the 8 outweighs this one shortcoming.

Wow. I’m speechless. Really?

Go on the apple store website. Place an iPhone in your cart and choose 60661 as your zip code (Chicago). You’ll see an option to have the phone delivered the same day in under 2 hours for $9.

Very strange that it’s news around here. I just picked it and didn’t think twice about it.

And yes, the phone was delivered in 40 minutes by a dude with some big bag. He called, I came down to my lobby, he asked for my name, gave me the iPhone and that was it.

Never asked for signature or ID or nothing lol. Maybe I should tell Apple that I never received it? - jk ;)

I agree. It took me three months of using the X to crack. Face ID gradually became more and more annoying over time. While I'm glad most people like Face ID, I'm happy to wait for a faster and more refined version of it in the future.

There were a number of things I didn't like about the X, but it was FaceID that was the final straw. It took me a month to crack.

Agreed.

I think a lot of people would feel this way if they used the X for several months and then were forced to switch back to the 8. They would have an awakening.

I’m not saying it would happen to everyone, but many would be surprised.

Sometimes you need a back and forth to realize what you’re missing. Like your ex. JK lol

I don’t think you’re crazy at all. I’m also wishing I had gotten the 8 instead now. But since we’re already halfway through the cycle i’ll just wait for the low cost iPhone (8s/9?) this September.

In all honesty it was great. I missed the ecosystem and iMessage and iCloud. Just honestly. Yesterday I tested the S9 too. Also nice but just not me.

The note 8 I kept about 3 weeks. Phone didn’t feel as fast as my 7 plus tbh.

I've ordered a couple of phones that way. They use Postmates here in Columbus. Postmates sends someone to the Apple store to pick up and deliver. Never had to sign for them either.

Not crazy at all! As soon as an updated SE model comes out I am ditching this thing! (Please update the SE With an A10 and an upgraded camera - that’s all I want!)

I dont blame the OP, the X is a compromise imo, i had a 8 but couldn't go back down in size as battery and not as good camera would annoy me. I bought a bargain 10 day old 8 plus 256gb, but generously gave to my wife and sold her 6S plus for $300AUD change over :)
What's keeping me on the X is tap to wake and i like the swiping UI, have turned FID off for unlock, HATE it.
And the $$ i would lose as bought outright on release day.
